Good price…assuming this is a legit knife deal.
Very sparse on any details about the knife, the steel or the company.

Further, I've not heard of any Santoku chef knife with a hollow ground edge.

"According to the lawsuit, the trademarks for multiple DealDash-sold brands — including Schultz electronics, Barrel Shack, Kamikoto knives, Verdict apparel, and New Haven candle and home decor — are all registered by the same company: A Hong Kong-based business called Galton Voysey Limited."

Do a bit of reading before committing anything. It looks like this company is a 'child company' often used to sell cheap products made to look like a luxury brand.

  • Kamikoto is a maker of Japanese-style knives

    Is the knife single beveled?

    NVM, found the answer:

    taper ground on one side

I'll give you a little snippet lol

Many of these brands also appear to have the same trademark holder. According to the lawsuit, the trademarks for multiple DealDash-sold brands — including Schultz electronics, Barrel Shack, Kamikoto knives, Verdict apparel, and New Haven candle and home decor — are all registered by the same company: A Hong Kong-based business called Galton Voysey Limited. While the website for Galton Voysey says it is “home to 28 iconic brands,” it doesn’t appear to mention a single one of those brands. Its “About” page lists several “Partners & Associates,” but these are links like law firms (including the one that filed the trademark applications), accountants, and product testing labs. No mention of DealDash. So what’s the connection? According to the lawsuit, it’s at the bottom of those trademark applications, which were signed by William Wolfram, who is listed a “Chairman” of Galton Voysey (though the company’s site makes no mention of him). William Wolfram also happens to be the name of the Finnish man who was only a teenager when he launched DealDash in 2009, and who is still believed to be the largest stakeholder in the company.

“DealDash’s purportedly expensive, high-end brand names do no legitimate retail business anywhere because they are nothing but the cheap, recent inventions of DealDash and its principal(s),”

I'm negging the deal (apologies to the OP) based on the above information.
Apologies if a Kamikoto actual is the real deal - a traditional forged Japanese blade made in Japan.
(no where on the web site does it actually say where the knife is made, or maybe I missed that).

I'm sick of companies pretending to sell high end classic goods when all they've done is used the name.

  • dont be fooled by its rrp. the quality doesnt match its price.

  • For a Japanese knife thats made in Japan. They have to import this knife to Japan if i was to buy this off amazon Japan…

      “Thank you for contacting us.
The earliest techniques that shaped the craft of the katana 刀 found their way to Japan through Mainland China and the Korean Peninsula in early history, and were then evolved and refined by Japanese knifemakers and swordsmiths over the centuries. Kamikoto is respectful of this shared legacy. Each Kamikoto knife is carefully crafted with high quality steel from Honshu in Japan. Fully versed in traditional blade-making practices, Kamikoto’s knives are handmade by a select group of experienced craftsmen in Yanjiang, China – a town with over 1,000 years of knife and sword making heritage, and today, the leading center of Japanese-style knife forging, polishing and balancing – where the Japanese legacy is preserved, and carried on, with reverence for the skill of the knifesmiths who evolved this traditional craft centuries ago.
We offer the discount only for our “Made to Order” knives, which ships at the end of each season. Customers who wish to purchase the knife immediately pay the full listed cost. We encourage our clients to buy and test the knives for themselves to speak to their quality.

Please let us know if you have any other queries.

      Best,
      Kamikoto”

  • Sounds like those that think these are made to be fake reduce priced are spot on. A few people on Reddit wanted to check them out and ordered them. General thought from those that bought them was there decent quality but the "reduced price" was about all they were worth.

Yeah, I think I will pass on this one. If I wanted a 'REAL' made to order knife I will stick with one from my usual place in Oz, DP Custom Knives.

  • Neg based. On above

The fact that I just saw this in a dodgey advertisement on facebook is probably a reason to stay clear.

  • I won't positive or negative, but I'll say if you learn how to sharpen properly, cheap crappy knives aren't even that bad- just sharpen them in the kitchen with a podcast on once every 3 months.

  • Kamikoto is allegedly a Japanese company "headquartered" in Tokyo and yet they don't run the Japanese domain; http://www.kamikoto.co.jp/ ???

I think all they've done is re-arrange car /racing part brand "Kakimoto" to make a new name.

I've yet to see a Japanese online company that ONLY has a ".com" domain (meaning they all have a ".co.jp" in addition to often having a .com

      enjoy

        What's your point?

        • you claim to never ever have seen a Japanese online store without a co.jp or .jp… you prove yourself wrong even further by linking to a completely different company?

  • Is this similar to how miniso looks to be a Japanese shop but is actually a Chinese owned company?

Thanks, for sharing all the info from commentors, i was about to buy this and you guys saved me. TA.

  • Steel is likely crap if they don't even mention the type of steel.
At $600++ RRP I expect something more than VG-10, will be ZDP189 level at least.
