Child Throwing Water Bombs/Eggs at Pedestrians and Cars in Back Lane

I've witnessed a high school kid from an apartment balcony aiming at people and house properties. The apartment balcony is facing right behind my backyard and I often come home to find eggshells and water balloons on the pavement and cars that are parked on the lane way.

I spotted him just this morning at the balcony throwing water bombs at joggers and running back into the apartment.

I've tried calling the bikies already but what else can I do to make this behaviour stop permanently? I know the family staying there are renters and are a not so friendly bunch, so I don't wish to confront them head on plus I don't have evidence that it was their son.

edit:
The teenager has previously thrown water balloon at my mum but missed, my mum was rather clueless wondering where all this water was from.

So far I think I will write up an annoymous letter to the apartment and let his parents be aware of this situation.

Maybe make evidence then? Have a camera pointing towards their balcony for whenever he's up there. Worst case scenario then chuck some shit back at him? :))))

  • +27

Video, upload anonymously, slip paper under door with URL saying stop or else you will post to social media.

What a waste of eggs though. Should be reserved for pollies. :)

    • +10

I agree, but I also think he should slip the paper with the URL to the local police as well. Even if they can't arrest him, a stern talking from a police officer is different than just a regular adult.

And an anonymous email to all the local real estate agencies around

        • Common assault charge !! ? Maybe !

      • +1

Wouldn't have the same attitude if it was your car would you? Eggs destroy paint

  • +2

Make a slingshot and use the balloons/eggs for target practice. If you miss and happen to hit the kid so be it.

    • +44

      Nice try, egg thrower.

    • +26

Why not fix the problem and prevent it from happening to him in the first place? Going by your logic is like thinking I will not lock my house until someone break in and steal from me and until then it's not really my concern.

        • +10

I think by his analogy a better equivalent would be seeing the same person rob your neighbors' houses and thinking.. "meh, its not my house, so I should mind my own business and not call the police.. to hell with community".

In fact OP had something thrown at his mother.. so its more like then seeing the guy attempt to break into your mother's house and thinking "its still not me or my property.. so its none of my business".

        • +6

          @sp00ker:
          "Don't start inventing things I didn't say. "
          I didn't quote you.. it's an analogy.

You stated it was none of his concern as it did not effect him or his property directly and suggested he should only call the police when it effects him or his property. I applied exactly this attitude to a more serious offence by analogy.

The reason you are getting downvoted is your post appears to advocate the attitude that you shouldn't care about what happens in your community or to its members unless you personally suffer a detriment.

I'm sure if you called the police about an ongoing issue with a kid throwing things at cars and pedestrians (especially if you had some footage) there's a decent chance they would come out to speak to the kid's parents. It doesn't even matter if they don't do it straight away.. they just need to make it annoying enough for the parents that they stop the kid doing it. I've reported kids throwing rocks at a dog (not mine) and the police came out to have a word with them that day. I've even had police come to parties I was at as a youngster to tell us to turn the volume down. They don't only come out when someone's in immediate danger.

        • @sp00ker:

"My attitude is pragmatic, rather than all the suggestions about extracting petty revenge yourself."

I see that now, just saying that's the way it came across in your first post. I agree re the petty revenge.

          PS - I didn't downvote your reply

        • Let say for example you know all the neighbour's houses on your street were robbed except for yours would you ignore the issue and wouldn't be concerned because it hasn't happened to you? I guess by your logic you wouldn't be concerned about this and just carry on as normal until somebody break into your home.

        • -3

          @armdrags:

Let say for example you know all the neighbour's houses on your street were robbed except for yours would you ignore the issue and wouldn't be concerned because it hasn't happened to you?

Of course I would be concerned.

Will the police do anything about my concern? Probably not. Heck, I'm not even a victim yet.

Can I go hunt down the culprit, before he gets to my house? Certainly not.

Will I check my insurance to see if I have adequate coverage? Yes.

This example of a neighbor's house being burgled is stupid. Once you the fact that the burglar is a minor, there's not much you can do proactively.

50 neg votes and counting … still not a single reasonable suggestion in the thread.

        • +1

So I see you are concerned and have taken action to check with the insurance company. You have done something in this case to protect yourself from this future event.

This example of the neighbour's house being burgled is very relevant in this case because one day he could be walking by and have eggs thrown at him if nothing is done.

        • @armdrags:

I'll ask again, what is your proposed solution?

        • @sp00ker:

          "Don't start inventing things"
"They probably wont even send a squad car and if they do, it might be a week later."

On what basis are you making that statement, from experience or just "inventing things"? I know from experience that a squad car responded within half an hour of a complaint of a car egging.

        • @sp00ker:
          Pragmatic is overused !

        • -1

          @sk0tty:

On what basis are you making that statement, from experience or just "inventing things"?

Experience and other people's experiences. As I said above, it must just depend on the suburb.

        • @sk0tty:

On what basis are you making that statement, from experience or just "inventing things"?

On the other hand, if you report the kid as a suspected terrorist, I'm sure the swat teams will be right over.

    • +16

I disagree. Last year my friend was driving through the suburbs and had an egg thrown at his car, unfortunately the window was open and it hit a toddler sitting in the back.

We have a duty to look after our neighbors.

        • +17

Well YOUR solution appears to be to do nothing.

        • -6

          @Ryanek:

No - it's wait until you have a concrete complaint you can take to the police.

The police will be reluctant to do something if you're just making a general complaint about someone else being water bombed, even if you have evidence.

        • +3

          Mind your own business

        • @martriv:

          learn to care about others….

My statement is there's nothing you can do to the kid.

Yes, I care about others and will assist his victims as much as possible.

        • @sp00ker:

I dont know about you man but if I were you I would have stop replying lol

        • @bulletNOVA:

Why? It's actually the first Lynch mob I've seen on this forum … Everyone seems to want to kill this kids they've never met.

        • @sp00ker:

Yeah but I really dont think you provide a solution either. Mine would be to just confront the parents to inform their kids behavior. Whats so hard about that.

        • @bulletNOVA:

Yeah but I really dont think you provide a solution either

You might've missed it - it's wait until he does something to you, then call the police.

Mine would be to just confront the parents to inform their kids behavior. Whats so hard about that.

Sure, but based on the other info in the original post, the parents are likely to be as useless at the kid. I could be wrong and maybe it'll work …

glad we got the bikies option out of the way 1st ball.

  • +3

Video camera + evidence —> police station ,and let the police sort it out.

    • +5

Plus the building corporate for that apartment block & the real estate agent for that unit (if OP can figure out from, say, old rental advertisements online)

    • +2

Doubt it, will probably get done for being a paedo.

  • +16

Bag of shit and a slingshot.

  • +6

Shit in a bag suggested. Maybe pee in a waterbomb?

    • +4

      Why not combine both?

      • +12

Such a combination would make you vomit. You can then add that to the mixture.

        • +1

          That.

          Is.

          Brutal.

I'm sure whatever that hits, it is an insurance write off.

      • +7

        "Por que no los dos?"

  • +2

Keep logs and try and get photo/video evidence if possible. Find out who the strata management is for the apartment building where kid lives and let them know.

    • -6

What's the strata manager going to do? Send them a breach notice? Even if a by-law had been breached

Do you realize that strata managers charge for each breach notice they send to an occupant? They'd probably need to run it past the executive committee and the matter will probably be forgotten before they next meeting.

A strata manager will do with a complaint from a 3rd party.

      • +2

Throwing things off balconies is in breach of the owner’s corporation rules and is a criminal act (potentially).

If you have enough evidence then yes this is where I would start. The breach / notice will go to the owner & not the occupant.

Fairly certain their rental agreement states that breaking the owner's corporation rules is a no no & could result in being evicted.

        • -3

Yeah - NCAT will sort him out, good and proper. Why didn't anyone think of this earlier.

          /sarcasm

    • +1

They won't care, council won't care, police won't care, parents won't care.

      Revenge or nothing.

  • +18

Leave a note with the kids address on the properties and vehicles affected by this kid. Let those people deal with it for you.

    • +8

Even better, leave a note with the details and also throw some eggs at the vehicles/properties while you're at it. Give them the info and also infuriate them at the same time, so they take action.

  • +7

Shine a laser pointer in his eye and watch him scream!

    • +1

I'll volunteer my Erb Yag for that :)

      Sincerely,

  • +4

Is the kid in a school uniform? Do you recognise the logo/uniform? If so, contact the school and let the principal know. He/She will forward it to the Year level coordinators to manage. Schools often receive complaints from the public. There's not a whole lot that can actually be done but it might be a case of adding to a pile of other evidence. If it does turn out that the kid has been involved in a lot of other wrong doings, the school could be at the stage of liaising with the local police or youth workers and any additional info might be helpful.
If nothing else, it might make you feel better that you have actually "done something" about the situation.

    • +1

The school has no jurisdiction and it is not their problem. Schools and teachers have enough to deal with without being turned into quasi police stations.

  • +3

Hand his parents a dozen eggs because you thought they may need more.

    • +6

Show them the OzB post for cheap eggs so that they can save money.

    Live and let live.

    • +1

      Egg and let egg?

  • -7

I know the family staying there are renters and are a not so friendly bunch,

So why do you want to make yourself a target? You're initiating a conflict with this party by getting involved and identifying yourself to them.

Let the little terror alone and hopefully they'll do the same to you.

    • -2

I said the same thing above … 16 neg votes and counting …

    • +1

If nothing is done today then tomorrow the little terror may also target you or your family and by then it's already too late. By taking action now you can eliminate the possibility of becoming a target in the future.

      • Or it may trigger an unwanted response like they start targeting op. there is always a risk of conflict when one decides to move away from neutrality.

The only way for op to find out is to do it, or not.

        • There are ways to do something about it and remain anonymous like making a complaint to management.

        • @armdrags:

What's "management" in this case? Who ever you complain to - police, real-estate agent, landlord, building management, strata manager, it's all going to trickle back to the parents, who we already know are useless.

  • +6

Eggs and cars don't go well together eats through the paint Leave the details of who did it on the cars hit, don't have to name the boy, who you are, just where you saw them being thrown from. let the police and insurance companies do the rest

He will soon stop when his folks start getting charged thousands in damages by insurance companies. they won't care who pays or that he is a minor they just wan't their money.

    • He will soon stop when his folks start getting charged thousands in damages by insurance companies.

      liability doesn't work that way.

they won't care who pays or that he is a minor they just wan't their money.

      the magistrate will care.

      • +2

        I'm going from experience

The police questioned people around the area after multiple cars were egged. the little guy who had been doing it answered the door started crying and admitted he had done it.

Before they could get out "are your parents home"

The police were required to give the findings of the investigation over to whoever had requested it and they sought damages end of story.

        • I'm going from experience

so you were the plaintiff in this case?
