  • Nope $20.66 AUD is cheaper.

    • didn't see that 1 - is it still active?

edit - ha bugger, wasn't in the search when i was posting the deal

      • +3

Your deal is cheaper for USD, just TomTop's AUD rates are highly inflated. If you pay in USD on TomTop though it works out cheaper. I'll edit the deal with proper exchange rates now. US $15.99 = AU $20.23 via MasterCard rates but TomTop say it's AU $21.75.

        Edit: Done

Thanks OP. Using the 320 points from new account + newsletter sign up + profile photo upload brings this down to US$12.79 :)

  • Got an email from them last night saying that my power bank order is cancelled as customs didn't allow the battery. Waiting for refund

    • Seems like Banggood are the only ones that can get them past customs.

      • BG actually refused to sell me the battery due to my country not allowing them and wanted to refund me. I said no. They asked again, I said no.

Then I saw it cheaper at Tomtop and tell them, ok cancel it, then ordered a new one. They waited a few days, then said no, we sent it a few days ago. Somehow they managed to negotiate their way past customs. So I am stuck with two of them. But if these guys can't get past customs either.. I feel like I'm just being kicked around like a ball.

        • so that explains why my mi powerbank 2 didnt arrive? told shopping square to send again! probably wont get through? whats the problem with powerbanks?

        • +1

@donkeydoc: The battery. They're scared it will blow up during transit.

        • @lostn: the f#$% lol

        • @donkeydoc:
good luck with that shopping square deal, apparently none of them made it i the country.

ended up doing a paypal dispute and got refund after a week

    • TomTop were the only ones able to deliver spare batteries for my VISUO XS809W quadcopter, Gearbest and Banggood won't ship batteries to Australia, Everbuying also refunded me. Have received 4 so far and ordered another 2 last week.

Edit: Just checked and they have updated their listing they can no longer ship to Australia, my last two have been shipped so I hope they get through.

  • I just paid via PayPal for AU$20.92.

CashRewards has reported the before discount sale value, so it's saying that the expected cash back is $2.72 - if that goes through, the final price of AU$18.20 is crazy cheap!

    Plug is US version ?

  • +1

At the Check out and noticed the plug was US as well :(

    • It will work in Australia.

    • +1

You can use your own power brick with a usb port :)

  • Gateway Timeout on purchase. :/

    • +1

      Same Wtf

And it used my points so I cant re order?

      • It didn't time out for me, but went back to edit something after proceeding & lost my points. lmao

        • My order is sitting there saying it needs to be paid, tried a 3rd time and it times out.. I have sent them a nice email .. and now I have to wait even longer for my purchase to get shipped :/

      • I gave up after the gateway timeout error but noticed they still took money from my account. I didn't get a confirmation email or anything. Yay. :(

        • They Apparently cancelled my order (see below) .. Kinda of glad to be honest, dodged a bullet I think

        • Did you just email [email protected] or did you contact them some other way? :/

  • +2

Paid US$12.59 after using coupon and 340 points.

  • Have any existing users found the camera app updated overnight to a new version (iOS) and the camera interface has now reverted back to Chinese? I'm not able to set it back to English.

    • Here is a screenshot of what I see now…
      https://ibb.co/fVZcUk

      • Same here

        • A bit annoyed at this because over time it was slowly supporting English in the menus. Now feels like a step backwards for non-chinese users of this wonderful product.

Here's a bunch of hacks to enable rtsp streaming/disable the cloud functionality: https://github.com/samtap/fang-hacks
They do really well during the day, during the night they're next to useless unless you're dealing with close range.
    Day Shot: http://poopr.org/image/3BeX
    Night Shot: http://poopr.org/image/35Vg
I use them with RTSP and iSpy running on an old junk machine.

Extra notes from a dude with a bunch of random scripts: http://bobbyromeo.com/technology/xiaomi-smart-1080p-wifi-ip-…

    • Are you using it outside, Or inside through a window? I would like to set up similar so I can view the front porch and car.

    • There are hacks, but I think so far none can auto record and ftp to download video files.

    • How do you have this mounted outside? Double story?
Any idea how long they would last installed under the eves?
Has anyone purchased a decent outdoor camera that works well at night?

      • Arlo is good outdoor and at night.

    • Hi, anyone got the hack working?

  • Got one, thanx OP, this is my 2nd one now.
Paypal conversion from USD today ended up to be AUD$20.92

    • What are your thoughts on it? How's the first one been? Do you use the app or access the stream another way?

      • +1

quality is good, night vision through glass is bad.
I haven't modified it as yet.. just use the app, the location set as China, so the time on the output is 2hrs behind..
Will soon mod it at a later stage.

        • okay cool. i just bought one for my friend so she can monitor her new kittens from work :D

        • Night vision through glass will always be crap due to the IR reflection.

        • Ditto..
Motion alarm is pretty good if you don't expect motion in its vision.
For example - birds can set motion alarm even in low sensitivity.
Also motion alarm sends you notification and then you can go and download the video, so it does not directly sends the video.

You can set timer for it to turn on or off.

Now a new option has come up to move stored videos to router storage, but it requires special directory structure so have not tried it yet.

    • I am Still struggling to setup it up and Idea ……??

      • Same here.. struggling at step 5.. any help would be appreciated.

  • How are people powering these things? Would it be okay to get an extension cord and just run it through the roof to where I want it? I already have an analogue camera set up but quality sucks. My cupboard has a hole that I'm fitting the cables through. Thinking of just having a 20 or 30m with a USB powerpoint connected then popping this little camera out where the old Analogue cameras are..

    • It comes with usb cable and a power brick. You can power it via any usb port.

    • +1

I use Power over Ethernet from my Unifi switch. I connect the ethernet cable to a PoE-48v to MicroUSB 5v converter and power the camera from that.

I have the option of remotely disabling the power or enabling the power at will via the Unifi interface too.

Quite neat. Deciding if I should buy a second camera now or more.

      • SOLD! $12.59USD/$16.48AUD. Contemplating creating a new account to order another one! Thanks for the advice Slam. Think that's the best. I have a few really long ethernet cables. Will buy a POE and converter. Any recommendations for a POE switch?

  • Ordered two. Used my separate email to sign up and get the 340 points again.

  • Just bought two. Two separate orders as the discount seems to come off the total rather than per unit. Thanks OP.

  • $16.48 AUD through PayPal with code and new account points.

  • These things seem to get cheaper by the day.

  • Code + 300 points = USD12.99
Payed in USD with 28degreescard and got charged AU$16.37 (giving exchange rate of 0.79352474037).
If paid in AUD converted by Paypal, it would have been $17.

  • Wow - didn't think I would see these below $20AU for at least a few more months!

For anybody mounting these high up (and upside down), what are you using to ensure they don't fall? Magnetic tape?

    • I used a metal plate and double sided tape to stick it on the ceiling.

      • Thanks. Silly question, did you cut out your own plate from scrap metal or did you use something off the shelf (from Bunnings)?

        • I used Command Velcro picture hanging strip. it works well.

        • @desteoh:
Great. I was looking for an easy solution that wasn't going to require any tools. Thank you.

        • I bought a few of the "car air vent magnetic mount" before so got some extra metal plates.

    • +1

Anyone with a 3D printer this is just one solution i found for the xiaofang

      https://www.myminifactory.com/object/xiaomi-xiaofang-camera-…

  • +1

    Couldn't resist. Thanks OP.

  • Just saw it has a US plug.
I can power this with a long usb cable to a usb port in the a powerboard yeah?

    • Yup. Works fine from a laptop USB port as well (which is only half the amps of the supplied power brick).

  • Thanks OP, good to watch the family at home while I'm at work and occasionally yell at them via the two way speaker ;-)

    • Your colleagues would look at you funny yelling into your phone

  • Created a new account and got it for AU$17. Excellent price. Thanks OP.

  • Honestly This is one of the Worst websites I have tried to buy off.
Having never used them before, I signed up and tried to purchase, there was problems with their payment gateway as other people have pointed out.
Due to this error I had lost my points applying to a discount.

I tried numerous times over the past 7 hours to process the sale and It didn't happen.
I contacted support twice with no reply.

I tried their online chat which seems very very dodgy, and it was offline most of the time.
When it was online I was in a queue.. and then randomly it decided to go off line.

When I did connect with someone they never responded and it went offline.

While the price was good on this Item it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to buy.
Banggood and Gearbest are a lot more manageable.

Ps - 13 years in business and they still can't get their shit together?

    • Not sure what your deal is but I just signed up in under a minute. Then used paypal at checkout and was done. Couldn't have been easier and at $16, I'm very happy.

      • Well according to them, this is how they handled their end of the stuff up, a few of us had gateway errors, I'm not saying that It wasn't easy for some, but the way support handled it was beyond a joke.
Apparently they want/have pictures of my credit card now??

        Dear customer,

I am sorry for that your order did not confirmed timely.
So the order is canceled by the system and the payment failed be charged.
If you still want the order,I am afraid you have to submit a new order and let me know the order so I can confirm it timely. Because we have got your credit card pictures,if you have got the picture asking email please ignore it.Thanks.

        Best Regards,
        Phyllis

  • I got my camera delivered yesterday from a previous deal - Tried installing Mi Home software on my S7 - get as far as the 'wait for audio' - no further, tried my Samsung tablet, version not compatible - can't install, tried my nexus 7 tablet, version not compatible can't install.

This has to be one of the most frustrating pieces of hardware I've ever bought that I fear is going to become worthless very quickly. Perhaps this weekend I'll try again…

    • +1

I had the same problem, none of my Android devices were compatible with Mi Home, but these instructions fixed the problem for me:

If Mi Home won't install from the Play Store, you should be able to install it manuall using the APK installer file:
      https://apkpure.com/mihome/com.xiaomi.smarthome/download?fro…

After it's downloaded, open the APK file (or launch it, depending on what software your mobile or tablet uses) the click Install, and it should install itself without using Google Play. You may need to turn on the "Unknown Sources" setting before Android allows installing APK files. Help with that problem is here if needed:
      http://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-install-non-market-th…

Everything I've read suggests you should download version 4.0.11 first, then after the camera is set up you can update it if you wish. You need to make sure you click "China" or "Mainland China" as your location in the software, as the software disables the camera for any other location.

If the camera won't recognise the QR code displayed, make sure you first remove the plastic film over the front lens! I didn't the first time, and wasted nearly half an hour wondering why it wouldn't scan the code. Despite the film looking pretty clear, it still was too blurry. Removed it, and the camera burst into life within seconds.

  • Ordered 2 with 2 Diff Accounts.
Worked out to $17.11 Minus the Cash Rewards of 7.2% ($2.73 of each according to Cashrewards email.. )
    $14.38 each x 2 Units if I Am Correct.
    See how it goes..

  • Beware. I got a 'gateway timeout' error on payment. My account was charged and I didn't get a confirmation email or tracking number. I've sent support an email and I'll let you know how I go. :(

  • also ordered 2 units, transaction went smooth with paypal

  • why am I only see the price as $29.99
    has the deal expired?

    • It hasn't, add item to cart and put in the code the OP has given up top and it should reflect new price.

  • Thank you OP! Ordered.

  • many comments on interwebs about this seller being dodgy.. should i be concerned?

  • No issues with Xiaomi box delivered. PayPal protection anyway

  • Hey Guys,

Just ordered one thanks OP, does anyone know if it comes with a SD card?

    Thanks Rob.

  • Says 27.79 for me after points. Has this expired?

    • Still working - make sure you're logged in?

  • Has anyone managed to work out how to change it to English.
Theres some sections of the app which is Chinese… I don't want to go pushing all the options without knowing what i'm going

  • can the app change to english?

  • Mine arrived today - that's pretty impressive posting speed for the price :)

    • Waited for it for 1 month lol, still haven't received it. Did you choose the super saver shipping?

  • +1

Mine arrived today as well.. Sydney CBD
Ordered on the 26th July, wasn't expecting it for another 2 more weeks

    • +1

Yeah ripper eh - looking forward to setting it up :)

  • Got mine today too. All set up and ready for yelling at family / cat tomorrow.

  • Dodgy seller, the camera arrived with the seal already opened. From Laos apparently.

  • Ordered 2 as 2 separate transactions on 26/7 and 30/7 seems that delivery from 30/7 arrived but not 26/7, contacted customer support and nothing yet… not holding my breath… definitely not like Banggood with their great customer support

  • Received mine. Working well. App is English mostly even when I select Hong Kong as the local server. Any reason why I would hack it for RTSP? Is there any advantages of RTSP over the current app which works pretty well.

    • I tried to set mine up but it's talking to me in Chinese :(

      • Any luck? http://en.miui.com/thread-687817-1-1.html
I only had to set up to Mainland China to get it working. Didn't have to set up 4G etc..

        • Thanks - will have a read of that and see if I can get it working. Wishing I'd put Australian now when setting up… haven't been able to get it to read the QR code yet so fingers crossed I can get it working

  • +1

Ordered on 26th, shipped on 28th. Still not here :(

    • lol….a bit of whinging obviously helps - it showed up today. Works perfectly with fang hacks and Zoneminder.

      • Ordered on the 26th, never got it :( Maybe one of the unlucky ones…

      • Mine has not shown up either. Whinge, whine … lets see if it appears now.

it too is wanted for Zoneminder. You finding it reliable? Was going to get a few on the next deal if it works well. Maybe from a different seller though!

        • first attempt to run it under zoneminder i hooked it up to wifi SSD 1 in my house with all default picture settings available after the hack. The bitrate was too high for the wifi link and i got terrible dropouts all the time. second attempt, i switched it to my other access point with apparently better signal. i also tuned down the picture to 720p and lower bitrate. PERFECTLY reliable in ZM…..moreso than my $19 kmart 720p cams from a few years ago.

      • It worked! Package showed up a couple of hours after posting.

Cannot get camera working with Mi app on phone, but it got as far as putting the wifi details in.
Loaded the hacks. Lots of mucking about. RTSP server only works if started manually after manually running the 00-stop-cloud service.
        Is that normal?

Will do more reading and try it from zoneminder another day.
