This game must have really bombed.

I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up in the EA Access Vault by the end of the year.

Despite having mostly fixed the awful glitches and animation/texturing, I think the biggest issue is it doesn't have the same feel of Mass Effect.
The trilogy had (though you could run around as you pleased) this sense of urgency, or a real weight on your shoulders, that the Pathfinder does not seem to emulate. Sort of like an open world game that says "the world is ending, but please go and catch this person's chickens for them".

I thought even 3 lost a bit of this. It was just too clinical.

Haven't played Andromeda yet and aren't really in a hurry too.

The pace was a bit lost in parts of 3 too, I agree.
That all said, I just bought ME:A CE ($68, EB) because I'm a sucker for game toys :D

I think that criticism applied to the entire series, and all open world games. It's the nature of the beast.

You can't tell people something urgent is happening and needs your attention and at the same time tell them you're free to gallivant around the galaxy doing whatever chores you want for people, and make it believable. The games solve the problem by making the urgent situation wait for you, as long as it takes, and when you arrive you will always be "just in time". To hell with realism and logic.

The Reapers will not attack Earth in ME3 if you take too long getting there. You literally have all the time in the world and can take as long as you want.

I think the term for it is ludo-narrative dissonance.

        • That is true, but the difference (for me, at least) is that I often had trouble tearing away from the main path to do the side quests, for the reason above.

Other games I found it easy - Horizon, Skyrim, Fallout. Others, like Tomb Raider and Mass Effect, had a forward momentum that made me feel uncomfortable to stop and mess around.
But then, I could be mistaking bland side quests for an engaging main.

          @Tihocan:

But then, I could be mistaking bland side quests for an engaging main.

Most side quests in open world games are bland. It's a question of, are the rewards for doing them worth the drudgery?

But long game length is a demanded feature of this gen's gamers, irrespective of quality. If they removed the padding, games would be a lot shorter, and people will complain that they didn't get their money's worth. Most people prefer quantity over quality, or else open world collectathons wouldn't be a dime a dozen (thanks Ubisoft).

        • @lostn: Also true. I feel that Horizon did a better job of that in general, where even fetch quests provided a bit of lore or challenge.
The first fetch quest of ME:A was a very typical "find 3 bits of this to make it go".

    • The ME franchise is now on hold and its developer has been relegated to "support team" (i.e. make DLC for other teams' games). You figure it out.

they'd sell way more if it was on steam

  • Hoping it will hit sub $20 at some point.

  • 10 hour speed run?

    • +1

Yeah I'm wondering if it's possible myself.

      • After playing 3 hours, I get the feeling the game slows you down too much with wave combat and dialogue for a speed run.

  • It's a shame EA bought Bioware and have done what they've done to the creative process of the original company. I suggest people watch this video where 2 ex-Bioware employees talk about what EA has done and why Andromeda went a bit pear shaped: https://youtu.be/kh5CcMp3RmE

  • Oh it's a trial. I got excited for a minute.

Do you have to play within a certain period, or it will expire whenever the 10 hours is used?
