hmmm. A repack of a power bank with required capacity to jump start a car…
Not very confident that the battery life will last - and will provide the required current when it needed to start the car.
Think I will give this miss.

Ignore below. Didn't notice the repack. 90 day warranty. I'll pass thanks.

I can't comment on this particular product as I don't own it but I have a similar generic device and can confirm that it starts cars with no issues.

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/QUANTUM-12V-12-VOLT-CAR-JUMP-STAR…

I have used mine on a 2.5L xtrail, 1.5L Yaris as well as my Motorcycle (main use) and it's started all of them with ease.

Battery life is OK, it drops about half over 2 months, I just charge it up every month to keep it fresh. It WILL start my bike as long as it has 20% charge on it.

      • Interested to explore swapping out my heavy old lead acid car batteries to actually use something like this instead. If this were possible with this, as is for example with lithion iron batttieries (which are overpriced IMHO), then the big reduction in weight would translate into fuel savings, maybe around 2%. That is based on its weight when I hear that every passenger increases fuel usage by approx 5%. This would be more urban driving related ofcourse. As well as this you apparently get effective increase in HP. Might give it a try!

          Might give it a try!

Good luck with that, let us know when the battery explodes and takes out your electronics.

A far better method is supercaps with a balance board and a small SLA battery but if you go down this path you can't have a lot of drain when the ignition is off and your starter etc must be working well.

Reviewer at http://www.techguide.com.au/news/lasers-portable-power-bank-… claims to have opened one and found a 3700mAh not 12,000mAh battery.

    • Not surprising given the size and the electronics that would be inside.

    • claims to have opened one and found a 3700mAh not 12,000mAh battery.

There will be three 3700mAh batteries in parallel (3S), this is how they all describe these packs and it's neither correct not incorrect to do so given they provide both 5V USB and ~12V for boosting.

    • +1

      Actually as manufacturers advertise their powerbank capacity, it's 44.4Wh on 3.7V lithium cell so it's 44.4 / 3.7 = 12 Ah = 12,000 mAh.
If you use it to charge your 5v devices it would be 44.4 / 5 = 8.88 Ah minus lost due to conversion, with a good powerbank you'll get around 90% so it's ~8 Ah max
It's not false advertisement, just misleading though. Cheers :)

Useless pack . Get a good one from local shop for good warranty for anything about batteries bought Chinese and interstate ended up in a bin

    • +1

I personally wont buy anything out of my local council area let alone interstate.

        Gerry, is that you?

      • I personally wont buy anything out of my local council area let alone interstate.

And whatever you do don't buy one made in China, the ones from PRC are much better made.

        • Peter Russell Clarke never manufactured batteries.

  • I got one of these from the good guys a few months back and it works fine. I'll probably dip in and get a couple at this price. Have used it to jump start my VW no problems. I have used it to power a Raspberry PI but haven't done an endurance test yet to see how long the battery will last vs advertised wattage.

    • Did you read the above comments?
Someone reviewed it and it's crap compared to ones bought local

      • +2

Did you read my comment above as I have used it first hand and said it was okay?

        • oh i thought you meant you bought one similar. sorry mate

  • +2

I got one of these a few months ago from The Good Guys. One of the best purchases I've ever had.

My Ford Territory battery was stuff. At one stage was carrying around a huge caravan cell battery. Looked for one of these when the guy at SuperCheap Auto suggested to buy a $290 jump starter pack.

Got this little doozey. Jump started (and got me out of a lot of tricky situations!) far better than any other device I had used. Also super handy for charging all sorts of USB appliances on the move. Battery lasts ages (in fact hasn't ran out yet) and i've jumped the car at least more than 6 times.

Already told mates to pick this up @ this price

  • Myself , I don't recommend this brand.

  • What is a "repack"? Is that code for "reconditioned", "returned" or what?

    • All of the above, returned, reconditioned, no fault found etc

    Price is now $51.98.
