Expiry noted as 30th June but clicking on Buy Online Now shows the price as $10. Haven't purchased myself so please let me/mods know if it doesn't follow through so they can remove the deal.

This is great. Even says you can purchase multiple.

  • +1

Picked up one for the next churn run, thanks OP :)

  • Not bad

  • Can you price match this at officeworks?

    • If it's the same as the last $15 deal, yes

      • Tried Hobart store with no luck, employee said:
"There is an end date of 30 June and also it is not a standard advertised sale from Telstra's website, you must have got your link from google so we cannot price match according to our policy."

        • same with OW sydney cbd store

        • Exp date now shows 24 July. Just price matched it at OW. I had to even do a live chat with Telstra to show it to OW you can purchase more than 1. Bought 4 with discounted Coles Myer gift card even better.

  • Does the starter pack have an expiry date?

    • +3

Yes, depends on which one you get, unfortunately you can't pick when buying online but they are usually at least a year out

      • Thanks.

      • Last one I got only had a few months.

    • +1

      Mine delivered today shows 13/6/19.
24 months is maximum, so 23 months is excellent.

  • -1

Wish could still use for google play

    • +6

Not sure why everyone is saying you can't, you can you just need to activate on long life or simplicity

      • if I buy this 30 dollar sim, can I activate the 6 months long life plan with it?

Our $30 Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit includes 3GB of data, unlimited calls and text messages to standard Australian mobiles, to be used in Australia within 28 days on mobiles or tablets

        guess not

        • yes… that's what i do…. but if you don't plan to keep the number just activate it on simplicity…. transfer the money via credit2u to your other telstra account

        • @wippy: it says only 28 days on the sim sign up page

        • @wippy:
Aren't there restrictions and aren't you charged though by using creditme2u? How much do you lose on fees from the $30?

        • @cheepo: $0.25 each transfer. $10 max per transfer per day (but per day restriction can be bypassed by using Live Chat based on other comments - still costs $0.25 per $10 transfer block)

How much do you lose on fees from the $30?

          So it'll be $0.75 ($0.25 * 3x transfers capped at $10)

        • @wingwang: simplicity is 1 month and long life is 6 months…. but as i said, just transfer the money out via credit2u

        • @cheepo: maximum of $10 per day and 25 cents transaction fee… so you cab basically get a maximum of $29 out with 25 cents left on the sim….

        • +1

I used to have a 2 week balance expiry date extension on the receiving phone for each Creditme2u transfer, but last time I got one of these sims and did it that didn't happen. Maybe I did something wrong. It used to give me about 6 months for each $30 sim.

Can anyone confirm if they're still getting that (the two weeks)?

        • @illumination:
Thanks for the tip. Live Chat I shall go then.

        • @wippy:
          Makes sense. Thank you.

        • @wfdTamar: The two week extension was for the older plan - I think it was called 'Telstra Long Life' rather than 'Long Life,' so you can't get the two week extension unless you have an older sim still on that discontinued plan. You still get two weeks extension though, if the credit expiry on the phone your transferring to is less than two weeks away.

        • @wfdTamar: yes still get 2 week extension.

        • @headphonejack: My plan is ancient - at least ten years old. My expiry date is in November, but that never mattered before. At one stage I had it up to 6 years away. From reading the whirlpool thread it seems they might have stopped it.

        • @wfdTamar: I didn't realise they'd stopped it! That's unfortunate!

        • @headphonejack: I rang Telstra yesterday to enquire and he confirmed it was stopped.

      • … and get a $30 credit to purchase items on Google Play store?

        • +2

          Yes

        • -3

……..only if Play Store sold iTunes gift cards !!
          😂

      • Can't you use the Sim then switch it long life/simplicity right at the end to use the credit?

        • Yes but you can also do it during the middle of the month too apparently - and then change back to Prepaid Plus to get your data/call allowance back (i.e. you're constantly yo-yo-ing between Recharge Credit on Simplicity/Long Life and the allowances on Prepaid Plus this way)

        • +2

@illumination: This glitch has just recently been patched, recharge credit is no longer awarded when you activate a $30 starter kit on Prepaid Plus.

        • @realfancyman: Hm how recent..? I did this with a service activated on Prepaid Plus around 18 June (and switched to Simplicity around 15 July to use up recharge credit in Google Play Store after Prepaid Plus allowances had expired)

I thought the "glitch" was that you actually don't have $30 recharge credit on a Prepaid Plus service, but rather it gets "activated" upon switching to Simplicity/Long Life?

        • +3

@illumination: I activated on prepaid plus 2 days ago, changing to simplicity to transfer credit as I thought it was still working. But when I went to check my balance there was $0 on the account, so wasted $30 Google Play credit.

        • +1

@illumination: Just this week. Whirlpool discussion here. The glitch (or more accurately, exploitation of the system) was that $30 recharge credit was awarded on activation of a $30 kit on Prepaid Plus which was not supposed to be able to be used for Google Play or CM2U, however, switching to Simplicity enabled this, with the bonuses of Prepaid Plus being saved for when you switch back.

However, Telstra has now stopped the ability to double-dip, you can have recharge credit on Simplicity or Long Life, or bonuses with Prepaid Plus/Day2Day.

        • @realfancyman: Thanks for your explanation. If I transfer my Simplicity to Day2day plan, can I still keep my simplicity credit? Using for day2day plan?

        • @realfancyman: Ah right.. ok that is quite sad.

Thanks for the update crs & realfancyman.

This comment should now be negged as it's no longer true.

        • OK so going back to my original comment that prompted this…. im not a telstra mobile customer (so no other service to transfer credit to)… so no way to get a sneaky $30 google credit for $10? I used to do it last year activating on a freedom plan so just curious if a way still remains?

        • @Xizor: can.. get this for $10 then just activate under long life you can use whole $30 for google credit

        • @sydracing:
Do not do this, when changing to day2day, any existing recharge credit will be gobbled up into a black hole. If you want to be on day2day offer activate straight on day2day, remember that on day2day offer there is no google play billing or recharge credit to cm2u out

        • @bonz: Thank you. I will stay with my Freedom plus and simplicity with $600 credits, Lol

        • Tel$tra patched/fixed the plan switch glitch mid July 2017. So activating the SIM to Prepaid Plus, then switch to say Simplicity now results in $0 real credit.

Do not activate it with Prepaid Plus if you are after the $29/$30 Google Play credits or Telstra prepaid credits.

  • Boycott in the hope we see it go down to $5

    • +7

I don't think it has even hit $10 in over a year so this is pretty good.

  • Forgot about the Optus one today. Will get this instead.

  • +4

wind back to 2013 when this used to be common

    • And then the $1 Woolies & Coles deals in 2014-15. Activated the last of those in April. 30 x 28-30 day use of $1 SIMs! Still have 2 active on Longlife to park unused credit.

Now $10 seems expensive with Cashback deals paying us or the repeating $1 Kogan deals. Bought 1 just in case a better deal doesn't turn up later.

    • +1

I remember those days, cdaddy - us writing the original Telstra pre-paid starter pack guide - a great guide to these Telstra Starter Packs.

  • +2

ordered one - hopefully I can activate this long life crap, I only ever recharge to keep my number active and Kogan is the most ruthless cutting off your incoming calls and texts after 30 days

    • +10

Kogan is the most ruthless cutting off your incoming calls and texts after 30 days

Yea I had that happen to me as part of the first $1 14GB deal. Had quite a scare as it was my real number.

Customer Service even told me the number could not be recovered - then he put me on hold and said "let me see if I can do something". Came back shortly afterwards and said he was able to kinda recover it but I had to recharge to have it activated again. Decided to just port away without recharging. Worked.. bloody liar.

  • +1

    Just ordered three, thank you!

    • how to order multiple sims in one order..cant find an option to add two

  • I can't find the long life info on the Telstra site.
Anyone have a quick summary or a link please

  • Offer ends 30 June, 2017 <— Like 20 days ago :p

  • how to buy two sims in one go ..i cant see any option to add cart ?

  • It seems you can add multiple sim a to the cart, so I placed three separate successive orders which all went through.

  • +1

Can this be used to get AFL live pass?

    • Yes if you activate on Prepaid plus however, doing that means you get no recharge credit to use on Google Play or CM2U.

  • So to confirm, you can still use the $30 as Google Play credit, but only on certain plans. I never use it for calls anyway and just the discounted Play credit so I should be fine?

    • Can you please name those plans. Will note them for future deals. 👍

      • +1

for new activations, only simplicity or long life give real credits

        • awesome, noted. thx

        • ^ above is correct

  • Double post, and my last one was a question sorry, not a statement.

  • Dumb question probably, but can this be used in a Telstra PocketWifi device or are those devices tied to the sim that came with them?

    • I recommend you do this: when you activate it, say it's for an iPad (that way you'll get the best data only plan available), then put the sim in your pocket wifi device.

      • +1

This doesn't work anymore, there is one data offer for all devices

  • does Telstra put expiry onto their prepaid sim cards - like expires 28 days from purchase?

    • Expiry date printed on the pack. Normally you would expect a decent amount of time (12 months or so), but last one I got was only a few months. That is the date you have to activate it by.

      • ^ correct.
and if you activate under long life you'll get another 6 months to use the credit from activation date.

  • ta for the post, got one

  • +1

Also available at the On The Run servos if you happen to be in adelaide :)

    • Good to know, thank you. I'll be driving to Melb on Friday and wouldn't be home to get simcard posted to me

    • +1

      Cheers buddy

      • +1

Thanks dude… I probably look like your grandmother, but whatever, I'll be your buddy :)

    • Incorrect, tried two OTR's today and neither of them had heard anything about this and suggested I ring head office.

  • how do you avoid the data charges when purchasing on play store? afaik, we cant be on wifi network.

for Simplicity plan - 10c PER MB Data (charged per MB)

    • +2

of course you can. i always do it.
i use spare phone. turn off data but not the service. put the sim in. download the game and then play. and buy stuffs (in apps) or new apps on play store.

      just try it

      • Can you use it gur Netflix payments? They cancelled that for a while on Google Play

  • If you're activating on the $30 recharge it's 1.5GB + 1.5GB Bonus night data. So 3GB total, but 1.5GB is only available between 8pm-8am.

  • Is there an easy way to purchase multiple? Pretty annoying to go through the whole thing each time.

    • My attempt to order a second time didnt work - error processing payment. That's annoying as I had to check if a charge was made on my credit card (it wasnt). Will stick with one.

      • Argh, thanks for the heads up. I will hunt for a cheap prepaid plan for 6 months instead then.

        • i could order 2. yes 1 by 1. just minutes apart.
used 2 different credit cards not sure if that matter.
well, got 2x email confirmations now lets see if they deliver

    • +1

I was able to order 3 per credit/debit card, all in seperate transactions. To make things easier, you can type out your credit card number, mobile number, etc. and copy and paste them into the form; email can't be copy and pasted/has to be typed out.

      • Broden, is that you?

        • +1

I wouldn't call three Broden lol

        • +1

          @realfancyman:
Three per credit card, and an industrial method to quickly pump out numerous orders for each of the other credit cards. Seems well keen to me.

        • @chyawala: Ah sorry I misread, thought it said he bought just 3. Your right that is pretty Broden

        • Bought 6 across 2 debit cards. Big whoop.
