This is not an Android TV box, it is using normal phone/tablet interface as all these cheaper devices use. Fine for Kodi etc but Netflix will only display in 480p as its not a certified device.

Actually, technically it IS an Android box. It just isnt supported by Netflix so you can't install the Netflix app. Then again, there are only a handful of devices that Netflix supports, so unless you fork out 100+ on a Roku box or have the moolah for a NVIDIA Shield, there really isn't much choice. You can always stream Netflix via the inbuilt browser. You won't get 1080p, but you can't really complain when the device is this cheap.

Xiaomi Mi TV Box 3 can load Netflix in HD as it's running Android TV

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/xiaomi-mi-box-3

Roughly $72, worth the lil extra

        • Thanks for the info mate. Didn't know the MI Box was Netflix certified! The only downside is the price :( I'd get one otherwise

          @shakir99:

          Only $13 extra or so…

@Spackbace: Thanks, I just found the Gearbest link :D

        • Unfortunately no ethernet on that one kills it for me.

Others complain about that too when I google reviews.

I'd love to find a certified Android TV (Real android TV, not Android on a TV) device that isn't the Razer or nVidia, which are expensive and way overkill for what I need WITH ethernet.

          Too much to ask obviously.

With ethernet I would have bought the Xiaomi ages ago…..

        • @Ramrunner:

What's wrong with just having Wifi?

Are you sure it doesn't support USB > Ethernet adapters?

Interesting predicament actually, normally it's people complaining that a device is ethernet only!

        • @Spackbace: Streaming HD 4K over WiFi while your family has 12 devices or so on WiFi already sucking bandwidth does not make for a great viewing experience. Even on 802.11ac

Plus the up and down nature of signal strength, contention with neighbours, interference from household appliances.

My house is wired and it…..JUST…..WORKS….

As for USB the device only has USB 2 so EVEN IF a working USB->ethernet adapter exists that works with Android TV so the USB bandwidth will limit that to about 25MB/s. Enough for FHD but not 4K.

Frankly, although I understand the convenience of WiFi, I do not know why you would want to try to stream 4K over the limited bandwidth shared with all other devices. Way too much buffering, lag if you're gaming etc.

Nothing as reliable and fast as Gb ethernet yet (or soon to be 10Gb ethernet)……unfortunately……

          @Ramrunner:

          Yeah fair enough :)

It's funny that a few years back, everyone cabled their homes with ethernet. Then Wifi came out and they stopped doing it. Now I'd love to have a cabled house!

You can put the Netflix apk on any Android box but would be limited to 480p and be dealing with a touch interface on a remote device

        • You can put the Android TV YouTube apk. It's giving me 1080p on an S905X.

      • +1

Actually, technically it IS an Android box

He said it is not an "Android TV" box.

So it is crap for Netflix and Youtube.

Not even very good for Kodi, as for that you are much better off with a S905 box and install LibreElec.

originally he said "Actually, technically it IS an Android TV box"…
i negged it then the OP edited it and removed the TV part. so also removed the neg.

        • Ah right, ok that makes sense! Thanks for the info!

        • Any one know How is this box compared to the Beelink MINI MXIII II TV Box Amlogic S905X Quad Core, 4K H.265 VP9 Decoding 2.4G + 5.8G Dual Band WiFi Bluetooth 4.0?

S905 box you are referring to is that the same as the Beelink I mentioned above?

        • +2

          s905 and s905x are different processors as is the s912 …… s905x and s912 have android 7.

beeline s905x has great firmware support ….. you want he x versions has extra goodies on the silicon though 905 should have been better….

  • +1

Has anyone done any comparison of this and the similar MX9 pro box - the only difference other than "RK3328 Quad-Core 64bit Cortex-A53CPU" in place of "S912 Octa Core 64bit Cortex-A53 CPU" is the Gigabyte ethernet, and $15 more.

  • Is there PlayMax addins is working?

  • Netflix doesn't certify devices …..not sure where that myth came from …they have MANY supported devices that will stream fhd ….. Look at their list of supported devices and bandwidth needs …….you also have to enable FHD on the app …..

People need to differentiate supported vs certified ….there isn't a Netflix certification program ….

Bought 3gb version two weeks ago. I just bought a second 3 gb box so i can get to use it. Plays everything I throw at it. YouTube apps to download. Won't be disappointed. For the price you won't find cheaper or better. Great deal . Thanks.
