Enter BACKFORGOOD for another 5% off.

    • awesome .. thankss..

    • Thanks, but where do you entere this. I tried it in the gift certificate field but it didn't change the price. (P.S. Paypal at 6:45 AEST (26/09/2010) converts the this to just over AU$37 rather than 32.95 - is there some other trick to getting a better conversion rate?)

      • Me too… Anyone know how to enter it to get additional 5% off?

        • +2

In the checkout page, under the row with title like Gift Coupon or Gift Voucher, you type in BACKFORGOOD, and the price will automatically recalculate.

      • Tried again with IE and it worked. Didn't seem to work for me using Firefox.

        • Thanks for your tips. It works now with IE. Also confirming FF does not work. :)

Also thanks to OP and PCBEEF to alerting everyone, I got the bargain $35 shipped :)

          • @Jacku: i am using IE..still cannot find where to enter the code..can someone provide a screenshot?

        • I had no problem getting discount with Firefox. AUD $35.08 via PayPal

  • it says free shipping, is that only for UK?

edit: AU$3.20 postage for card + USB reader.

  • I own 2 x 8gb's. these cards are FAST!

  • So it's £20 + £1.95 shipped which is $33 + $3 shipping. Please add that to your title.

While it's still a few dollars cheaper than other generic class 10 cards here. The shipping fee is new and makes mymemory not as good of a bargain as they were previously.

  • Are class 10 cards faster than class 2?

    • +1

Yes, the higher the number, the faster the read and write speeds.

Class 10 is really overkill though unless you're taking a series of photos in quick succession. Not sure how much difference it makes for video.

Then again, you might not be using it for either of those purposes lol

      • Cheers mate - Wanted a 16gb micro sd for my galaxy but it's quite expensive unless you choose a class 2.

        • This is a regular size SD, not a microSD suitable for the Galaxy S

          • @ESEMCE: Yep was just after general info. Cheers

            • @Ndiddy: for a phone, class 2 is probably fine because there is nothing on a phone that requires data to be used up so quickly.

The only benefit will be for if you take the card out and try to copy stuff to it, class 2 will be slower in that regard.

              • @voter1: Galaxy S Lag fixes to improve I/O performance would probably benefit from faster read/write offered by a high speed card..
Although, I recommend the Voodoo fix (ext4 filesysystem on the internal memory) over the OCLF.

      • I used an 8GB Class 10 card for Windows ReadyBoost. Works a treat.

      • Class 6 and Class 10 are what you need to shoot 1080p video on your Dslr. I think u can do it with a Class 4 but you're better off with a 6 or 10. Also a side note. Class 6 should be 20mb/sec and Class 10 - 30mb/sec

        • -1

too bad it's still way too slow to be used with a SD-sata adaptor as a HDD :(
would work a treat if it was haha

and i thought class 10 were rated to a minimum 10MB/s or 80Mb/s

          • @Trance N Dance: ssd hdd's are minimum class 80 I think so there is a fair way to go if you are expecting ssd performance on flash card budget

    • The Class is meant to represent the minimum speed. eg. Class 2 = 2Mb/s vs Class 10 = 10Mb/s

This is why you can actually have Class 6 which run faster then some Cheaper Class 10. For Example.. One Class 6 might have realised speeds of 6mb/s to 20mb/s where a Class 10 Might only be 10mb/s to 20mb/s

personally i think the entire ratings for SD are messed up so bad they really need some sort of standard. Sandisk has not help when they release new versions of their SD range which are faster but keep the same names. Meaning older Extremes are about the same as new Ultra II.

  • +1

just be aware that a sandisk class 6 may be faster than this

    • +1

That's true, Sandisk read and write speed ratings are faster even though they have lower Class. But Transcend's read speed of 20MB/s and write speed of 16MB/s are still very fast for normal digital photography and HD video recording. I have a Transcend Compact Flash 133x 4Gb for my Canon digital SLR for a few years, it works flawlessly. So now I just bought this Transcend SDHC Class 10 16GB card + Transcend Compact Flash 133x 8GB card for a total of A$57 (including postage). Good deal.

    • actually not true, if you find the many speed test you'll find sandisk class 6 extreme IIIs are about 15mb/s, while class 10 extreme are 19mb/s write, 22mb/s read.

  • Great! Just bought one with the USB reader. I now know where I will get my memory card.

  • Actually, I ordered a few items (16GB usb flash) and the shipping was free. The discount code also worked on all the memory keys I ordered not just the SD card above.

  • oh noes when did they start charging for shipping?

  • -1

Hmm, are these legit? Transcend fakes look like this on ebay with half the sticker blanked out. But their other types of card are not blanked out. Given this is half price of other cheap legit Transcend sellers, I'd beware.

    • mymemory.co.uk has been around for ages, and is a reputable authorised retailer.

Sometimes different countries have a different looking product, this is often the case with memory cards and usb drives from the UK, they look different to the Aus ones.

  • Grand Total: £20.94 delivered

Paid with paypal - $35.47 AUD

Cheapest in Aus is about $45 so not a bad deal.

  • Afff.. Just brought and forgot the BACKFORGOOD

    • you only save 1 pound~
i wouldnt worry about it :)

      • Im not.. I brought 2 and a card reader. I actually brought a Sandisk Extreme 16GB last night $100. I will do some speed comparision tests when I get them both.

        • Cool, please tell us your comparison. I am predicting Sandisk Extreme will be a lot faster, as even the Extreme III is rated at 30MB/s. This Transcend card is more on par with Sandisk Ultra II speed I think.

        • Poor you for not getting the discount but as what blaze said, it's only 1GBP, so it's not too bad.

Also, look forward to your testing!

        • +1

What will you be using for testing speeds? ie camera, camcorder, card reader etc?

          PS - it's bought.

          • @quarrymaster: Well I have a New Canon 60D on the way and 2 different card readers. And normally each would require 2 tests. Small number of large files and large number of small files. This should give some idea. Anyone got a bargain for a stop watch :)

            • @foto256: try something like atto or hdtune

              • @blaze: Thanks for Tip.. I'll look at these tools

  • I just purchased a Sandisk SDHC 8GB Extreme Class 10 for around $80 AUS. They are rated to 'Up to 30MB/s read and write speeds". But it's all based on the host device.

Now for my HD Video Camera I need the best possible speeds, how would these rate? I see their 'burst' speeds are still only 20MB/s.

  • Bumping this thread. I just received my transcend 16gb class10 sdhc from mymem today.

I think I've been ripped off this thing's slow!! It doesnt go anywhere past 9mb/sec. This is supposed to be a class 10 and is rated on the website as "Write Speed: 16MB/s Read Speed: 20MB/s"

Check the benchmarks i just did to see what i mean…

My Transcend ATTO & HDTune Benchmarks

Note: no matter what mode I try all speeds seem to be exactly the same. These cards look to be a dud in terms of advertised speeds!

Contacted mymem and awaiting a response.

    • What did you plug it into to test… I received mine and I am yet to test.

      • hmm im using the built in SD reader in my Dell 2408wfp monitors. There may be a bottleneck in the USB so I will attempt to get better results using a diff method.

    • I wonder if they are genuine.

I would be interested to hear what happens.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? That might be a better way to go.

      • no reponse from mymemory 6 days later hmmmm thats a bit of a worry heh

  • +1

Just did same tests.. Using the SDHC USB card reader I also purchased with the cards. Looks fine to me 16+ MB/s

    Here are the links

Vs SANDISK 16GB Extreme Class 10 (Made in China)

    Summary:
    HDTune:
    Transcend Average 17 MB/s
    Sandisk Average 18.8 MB/s

I paid $110 for Sandisk Extreme vs $35 for Transcend

I Know which I will be buying more of in the future.

I also tested with 2 different readers with same results

  • I only copied a 1GB video file from my hard drive to this card once. The write speed came up 16MB/s+. Have not done a read speed test yet, but I am very happy with the write speed.

Edit: Just did reading test of several video files totaling 100MB, the read speed comes up around 20MB/s. So it is true to its claim :)

  • Just out of interest, I asked paypal to bill me in foreign currency but sadly it looks like Westpac has charged me a higher margin by about 50 to 20 cents lol. I paid $35.63…

    • Westpac, like most banks has foreign currency conversion fees.

      Try NAB Gold Banking.

  • i used my westpac wizard clear advantage card as it only charges day rate.

eg; amazon site was converting a purchase of mine at .94c , xe was showing day rate 0.98c , wizard end up converting it for me with no fee at 0.972c

good card to have in times like these.

    • NAB Gold Banking Visa debit also does not charge FX fees — even for cash withdrawals abroad.
