Got this email and it seems like an OK deal for people that were going to sign a contract with Telstra (and their phone is available to sign a contract with Telstra via JB Hi-Fi). Thought I'd share it anyways.

These plans are to lease the phone, not own it.

    • I think the lease is for the swap so if you want to swap the phone you need to give in the phone.

      • Yes, you don't get to keep the phone.

        • This is for the Telstra Go Mobile Swap Lease plan meaning you have to give in your phone at the 12 months and you keep the 2nd phone.

(At least thats what I interpretted)

        • @hogwarts:

Dunno how you interpreted that you get to keep the 2nd phone.

          Device Lease Contract
You must lease an eligible handset to use with your Go Mobile
Swap Plan and make a lease payment each month over
24 months. You don’t own the device as you’re just leasing it.
At the end of your Device Lease Contract, you must return your
device to us (and if your device is damaged pay an additional fee
($229 (minor damage) or up to $499 (if damaged beyond repair)
or you can make an offer to buy your device for fair market value
(to be advised at that time) if we agree to sell it.

@ozhunter: Thanks for that. But with other 24 month plans, we would be able to keep it right? It may not say on the page but the email I got said any mobile plan for 24 months.

  • Seems like a good deal if you were planning on using New Phone Feeling after 12 months anyway..

  • I get the appeal of 24 month plans (reduced upfront costs, 12 month upgrade cycle), but if you can I find it's usually better to get it outright and then take a month to month plan (Aldi for example)

Still this isn't a bad deal if you're planning to swap out after 12 months.

Another way to look at this 'Bonus Gift Card'offer is perhaps, all things considered, it's a little under 10% off enticement to spend $1800?
