If you have bought from the eBay seller, you might not receive the extra data bonus applied to your Prepaid plan. See comments below.
Telstra are presently offering 6 GB (1 GB + 5 GB bonus) when you activate a $10 Prepaid Starter Kit on their Pre-Paid Plus plan. This 6 GB data expires in 7 days. Promotion is valid until 4 September, 2017.
Alone, one might be inclined to consider this quite a nifty deal. But I dunno, I don't care too much for paying $10 for 6 GB. I think I'd prefer to pay something closer to… well, $1.74. If you are of a similar persuasion, you may wish to check out this eBay seller: www.ebay.com.au/itm/152029544293
If you carefully review the terms and conditions of the promotion, there is no obligation that the $10 Prepaid Start Kit is sourced from Telstra, though they certainly try to give you that impression.
I also believe that Telstra loosely enforce a maximum of 5 or so mobile services at any one time. However, you can promptly have staff kill any unwanted numbers on request.
CAVEAT. If you purchase your $10 prepaid SIM through the eBay seller, the bonus data won't automatically apply. As a consequence you will need to contact online support and have them apply the bonus data manually. I did this when the same promotion was running earlier this year. You may get considerable run around by staff as they try to work out what's going on, but it can be done. First time I had staff understand what was going on took me about 40 mins. After multiple activations, however, I was able to cut this down to around 10 minutes.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure from where the eBay seller is sourcing the SIM cards. All I know is that they're $10 Telstra Prepaid Starter kits and as a corollary, fulfill all necessary criteria for eligibility for this promotion.
A few good uses, I can think of:
- Use in a dual sim phone with the Amaysim 1.5gb plans that are practically free for 6 months.
- I'm currently paying $59.99 to TPG for a crappy ADSL line. If you can make do with ~200gb/month, this is a pretty good replacement option. Much faster than ADSL (and probably NBN).
