Seagate IronWolf 10TB NAS HDD 7200 RPM 256MB AUD $494.67 Delivered @ Newegg

410

A saving of AUD$129.00 (22%) according to the website link, so add about $30 shipping (I put my NSW post code in but I imagine other states will be similar) and you get a massive hard drive (do they get much bigger than this now days?) that is also fast and for only about AUD$494.67 including delivery. Seems like a bargain to me as I have seen this drive selling for well over $600 recently.

It really is a beast of a drive, that would allow me to fit my entire TV and movie collection on it and free up all my other drives! Too bad I cant afford it right now :( But maybe someone else can snap up a deal here and go nuts with all that storage space! :)

The link has plenty of specs on the drive so I didnt post them here. It seems like there are not too many 10Tb HDDs around at the moment and I havnt done extensive research on it myself but it seems to be a good drive from what I have gathered so far and I think it will handle almost anything the average user you could throw at it.

P.S. This is my first Ozbargain deal post, please go easy on me :)

but they don't ship this to AU

      Then your point is moot.

      • -6

Perhaps, but this is No Bargain, by any stretch of the imagination

        • -4

dont know why they neg you! its not a deal at all

        • +5

@JackyQ: I just checked PC Case Gear and after I added shipping the price was $596. I think most people consider saving about $100 a bargain or at the very least a good price. Everyday I see deals posted here that offer a saving of 15-20% which the above price difference is and no one complains, they are just happy to save some money. Can you find deals on Ozbargain that offer a much higher % of saving? Sure, but imho, that doesnt make all the other deals irrelevant and not worth posting.

If just one person that was gonna buy a drive from somwhere else today, checked Ozbargain and saved a $100 because they spotted my post then it would make me happy :) Now whats wrong with that?

        • @wonderboy4: He did not say this is not worth posting, he just said the lowest price he can find as a reference, as a Bargainner myself, if I dont really need one thing immediately, I would wait until there is a true deal, which at least will be near the lowest price. and just to clarify, I really aprreciate your post, but if I check with the price reference and my own standard as a bargainner, its not a deal for myself.

We really need embrace voice from different perspective.

          @JackyQ:
I'll bet you that not a single person that NEG'ed me bought one :)

        • @just-dave:
A bit Conspiracy though, associated? ha,whatever, I will just stick to my own plan, expand my storages slowly with true deal.
I guess it will take me more than half year to reach 40TB, currently at 22TB.

  • At least this uses PMR. Monster drive but a bit pricey.

they were about $470 on the latest ebay sales

    • Yep, 468 delivered, held off getting to for my newer server :(

Great first time post wonderboy4 :)

Many thanks @Wystri Warrick ! I appreciate your positive feedback :) I realise that this drive has been slightly cheaper recently but "right now" this still seems like a good deal to me and is actually available unlike the US Amazon price, which would only work out maybe $20 or $30 cheaper if you factor in shipping, which we cant even get to Australia.

    10TB IronWolfs use helium right?

468 from shopping express last night… 10% off at 551.50 and the CRAZY code for another 15%. So an ok price but if you don't need them they will soon be this price normally.

    • +1

Great price @Damonator84 ! Is that deal still on?

      • The price of these will be down soon enough. Was going to get two @468, got higher priorities :(

      • +1

Okay @Damonator84 did not answer my question directly, so I just checked Shopping Express but the CRAZY coupon code doesnt work anymore. Thats a shame, its an awesome price for a local delivery!

I hope youre right @Damonator84 and these monster drives start dropping in price soon, I would also like to get a couple one day and solve my storage problems for the next few years ;)

  • Just remember wolves have shorter life spans than humans. I have had drives last 12 years in some cases. No chance with a He drive.

I dont quite understand your post, are you making a joke or commenting on the expected life of this drive?

    • I didn't know that. In fact I thought they would last longer.

      • I had a quick look just then but I cant find any information that would support the view that helium filled drives will fail faster. Other than peoples opinion in a forum there doesnt seem to be evidence of a problem. Some people are basing their opinions on the view that helium escapes easier than air due to the size of the gas molecule. But if the manufacturer has found a process and design to prevent any leakage for many years to come, say 15 or 20 years or maybe more then you wouldnt have too much to worry about. At least I hope thats what theyve done! They say they are hermeticaly sealed, whatever that means.

Here is a short but interesting artical I found as I was searching:

        https://www.stellarinfo.co.in/blog/new-hard-disks-storage-te…

    • If you expect to keep a hard drive for more than 5 years then you should really be looking for tape backup or something else. In 5 years time I would probably imagine 100Gb HDD to be the norm & possibly the SATA interface obsolete. The content on that 5 year old HDD would also be obsolete. Its like trying to buy a PC or new mobile & factoring it still being useful in 5 years time.

Your family photos and wedding photos and videos go obsolete in 5 years do they? Multiple copies in multiple locations is key but I have 8 year old drives that have had light use that are still going strong.

B&H seems to have it available for AUD $472.35 delivered.

    • Good price :) But no stock right now but I guess you can just order and wait a bit longer and save a few dollars.

Damn helium drive. Converted all my music to The Chipmunks Greatest Hits.

Could be worse. They could be filled with sulfur hexafluoride and then you'd have 24/7 Barry White.

"Can't get enough of your……data, babe."

  • Seagate. Better gambling elsewhere.

When I built my first PC, the largest (and most expensive) retail consumer hard drives were 120 GB (from memory)….the 40/20/10 GB drives were at a good price point.

20 GB is all I'll ever need, I remember thinking….

    • Yep I had one of those Huge 20gig drives and funny thing is it probably still runs…..

  • Seagate and 10TB.

Nah I'll pass. Until they increase the reliability of hard disk drives to not fail every few years then all this capacity crap is bs

  • Oh boy, would dread to see this fail on me.
