Hello!
Great price for the specs. Don't think this particular model has ever been under $1K before.

128GB/6GB of internal memory with an option to extend with a microSD card
Dual Sim capabilities for international travelers

Note: B28 band should be present in this model. Also, the item appears to be shipping from Melbourne, meaning no GST/import duty issues.

There are other colour options available as well (at slightly higher price but still under $1K). Added them in description.

        Smells like a Grey Import

Thanks Sherlock, it's a given based on the 128GB storage space or dual SIM feature. Australian models have neither of these.

It's indeed a grey import mate. Just shipping from Melbourne warehouse. This particular model (Dual SIM, 6GB/128GB) was never launched in Australia. It's only available in China, India and South Korean markets as far as I know.

          @ronnknee:
Was just pointing it out so as not to expect ACL protection

        • Aussie stock should have 2 year warranty.

        • @Steptoe:

I thought ACL protection was based on the seller's location and the goods both being in Australia. In this case, you won't get the 2 year manufacturer's warranty but couldn't you pursue the statutory warranty?

It's like walking into a store that sells grey import goods, you'd still get ACL protection regardless. But the questing I have is, would the protection be any different if the location in Melbourne was only a warehouse forwarding the goods and not processing the payments?

If that were the case, what's stopping businesses opening physical stores and asking people to pay online so they can bypass their ACL and Australian tax obligations?

@TCM: the handset has a non Australian imei so Samsung Australia would have no obligation to repair it as under the warranty terms the phone needs to be an Australian model. This is no different to buying a BMW in Germany and importing it. BMW in Australia has no obligation to repair this under warranty. There is no ACL on imported goods so by an eBay seller. . The eBay seller in Melbourne is your only point of contact in this case so he or she can suddenly go awol and you are stuck. Thus is the risk you take buying from a small eBay seller . Stick with DWI or similar who you know will be around and are based in Hong King so deal with Samsung Asia all the time.

        • @BargainBenno:

I understand that there's no obligation from Samsung Australia because I believe ACL is only with the company you had a contract with, which is the seller. So if you bought from the goodguys, your claim for statutory warranty would only be with the goodguys and not the manufacturer.

What I'm getting at is that I believe you still have ACL protection but the risk is high because this company may not be around long enough for you to exercise your rights.

Relatively unknown seller so not sure about the warranty and service quality.

    PayPal is your friend

    • Not in my case they weren't.

Once you escalate your issue to a claim you lose the ability to add more comments in. Plus they give the seller two weeks to reply, so in my case, the seller just drags everything out.

Credit card protection, I found, to be a better friend

      • You just call PayPal, they are actually pretty good to deal with. There online services for handling issues is a real pain.

It's the version I would get, and a bargain at this price. Blue is also not available in Aus.

    • Yes probably better off calling a large retailer in Hong Kong and buying over the phone. At least you have confidence of getting it repaired ufca problem.

Questionable as to whether these ebay sellers will be around in a years time. They have to honour the warranty not Samsung Australia who won't touch these as they were never an Australian sold model. It's a buyer beware situation. Is the second sim a 4g or 3g service? Is there much performance advantage with the 6gb of ram or is it just a marketing gimmick?

    • Having 6GB of RAM is great for future-proofing.

    • The mob I bought it from (UniqueMobiles/MyMobile) weren't 100% sure if the second SIM is 2G or 3G, but they're pretty sure it's the latter.
The second SIM is def. not 4G, phones with dual 4G SIMs are "as rare as hens teeth", very hard to implement "well", especially simultaneous!
As soon as I have it next week some time…
I'll test that the second SIM's 3G, & test that the lack of B28 700Mhz isn't going to be a major prob. for LTE services in the areas I frequent, & carriers I use.

      • So this model lacks the 700 MHz b28 band? Crucial going forward for optimum speed.

        • Yes. Yes & no, really depends on the carriers, & areas you frequent.

  • Yes true. I will have to see if there are benchmarks that have been run.

While I realise the fact that this is a cheap phone and is sold from Melbourne, if it is originally from Hong Kong I would give it such a wide berth.

The reason why is because I bought a galaxy s7 from Hong Kong. It came in a sealed box. The biggest issue is that the seller took the genuine charger out of the box and replaced it with a counterfeit one. This promptly blew up when plugged in.

I'm currently in week three of trying to get a refund.

You might get this phone, and it might be perfect, but if it were me I would gladly spring the extra $300 or so for proper Australian stock :)

I hope it works out for the people who do buy this phone though. Great price.

  • I ordered on 25 Jun and received 11 Jul. Which was over 2 weeks to receive after payment. The seller initially sent me the wrong tracking number. The phone received was opened and re-sealed with tamper-proof tape. Interestingly the tape has the name of a UK online store on it. The phone received is a Hong Kong model. Apart from the long postage time. I'm happy with the phone.
