What will be the benefit installing it if the government is still punishing the solar owner by increasing electricity bill ??

    • then dont install?

    • +1

Surely that's a reason to install.

    • How are they punishing you?

        • Everyone is paying that, whether you have solar or not.

You still save the same on your power consumption by installing a PV system, that calculation hasn't changed.

        • FWIW with energy australia (in QLD) it states at the same time my grid feed-in rate is going up from 6c to 11c, so that might make up the difference for some people.

        • @team teri: Thats Correct, it looks like the increase in Western Power charges will affect everyone.

    • +3

Install panels now whilst rebate highest. Install 🔋 when prices come down.

  • OP, do both options come with free Wifi monitor?

    • +1

Yes they do have Wifi connectivity that we setup during installation

    • Although the wifi is quite weak (even though I have a good TP-Link Archer).

I had to move my router to a room near the inverter to get it to pick up the signal.

I've had no issues with the inverter though, 7 months! you log into http://www.goodwe-power.com/ to view your usage.

      Looks like this: http://imgur.com/S0Jlurd

I didn't go with this company though, and I have different panels.

  • Anyone with experience regarding Chinese vs. German inverter and Chinese. German panels? Worth the premium over the long term or has Chinese quality been adequate?

    • I personally would go for the second package just for the SMA inverter. Inverters of most brands (Chinese or European) tend to cause problems much more frequently than panels. SMA is the only exception I know of. Reliable, great local service, worth the extra.

    • Don't waste your time with some of the chinese stuff.

The SMA / Q.Cell combo is pretty good and a great deal at $5k for a 6kW system

If you do the maths you will find although the payback period is quicker for the cheaper chinese system, it wont take long for the more premium quality stuff to catch it up and then essentially make more cash back due to its improved efficiency and output per panel

      • 6kW system

        Only a 5kW inverter though

        • It could just be my cheapy panels, but in mid summer without a cloud my 5KW panels would peak at 4.3 - 4.4KW. (It is west facing though, QLD)

It would occasionally jump to 4.7-4.9KW if it was clouded before hand and the cloud went away. Heat does make quite a difference on the panels.

So basically I only get 86% of my panels in summer, due to what the heat does.
86% of 6KW is 5.16KW, so there's not much to lose out on.

        • @musicinbed69:

Beauty is the rebate is based on panel wattage, not the inverter.

        • suggest you do some research into how large an inverter / panel install you can grid connect with Western Power ;)

        • @jmoore626:
Will do if I ever live in WA 🤡

      • Even the SMA quoted here is Chinese. Not a lot of gear is European anymore. Fronius and certain SMA models are your best bet.

  • How much extra for a double storey house?

    • Double story fee is $290 plus an additional $650 if there is access issues and we need to get a scissor lift (rare)

  • +2

Is the inverter the Goodwe Hybrid model to suit battery addition.

    • I want to know this too

    • +1

The Goodwe Inverter model number is GW5000D-NS which is not a hybrid model and not battery compatible

      • +1

        Free upgrade for OzBargain? 👍🙀

        • We have very competitive pricing across all models, give us a call to discuss options

  • Will you install to an asbestos roof?

    • +1

Only if the property owner drills the holes

    • No unfortunately we don't install on asbestos roofing

  • +1

would this system be compatible for a battery add-on in future?

    • +1

The inverters in these deals are compatible with the enphase battery system. If you wanted to upgrade to a different battery system at a later date you would just need to replace the inverter.

If you are interested in getting battery storage installed now, give us a call and we can sort out a package for you.

  • what is the actual model for the SMA inverter? is it capable of connecting to a battery?

what is the brand of railing you are using for the install? (mainly for my own information to get more info from whingepool)

    • +1

The model number is Sunny Boy SB5.0-1AV-40. Only compatible with Enphase Battery System. We use Titan Railing

  • +2

This package is only with a standard Inverter. You cannot install battery units such as Tesla powerwall with this inverter. For that you need a Hybrid inverter which will cost you a lot extra. With this package you cannot add battery later on.
Hope this helps. I am a solar consultant too :p
P.S. for the price this is a great package

    • This is correct. We also offer enphase battery solutions which will be able to be installed with these inverters.

  • Im a noob. Are the prices including Gov rebates?

  • I'm very interested.
Which is better - the SMA package for $4,999 or the Fronius package at $4,999
BTW - I just tried to call the number on the website and it said the number is incomplete…???

    • They are pretty similar to be honest, they are both well regarded, high quality, reliable inverters, Fronius are actually a bit more expensive than the SMAs. Apologies for the phone not ringing, we are pretty busy at the moment. Can you try again, or alternatively shoot us an email at [email protected] and well get back to you.

    6kW of panels and a 5kW inverter. Riiiiiight…

    • +1

Do some more research as it actually makes sense.

    • It is safe and allowed by regulations to exceed the inverter capacity by 33%, so a 5kW inverter can host 6.65kW of panels.

    • -1

      Noob much?

  • I live in the NT and it cost me $12K for a 4.5KW system.

  • German system is misleading.

Firstly the SMA inverter being quoted is "Sunny Boy SB5.0-1AV-40" which is actually made in China since SMA opened a new factory there. (https://www.solarquotes.com.au/blog/chinese-vs-german-sma-su…).

Secondly, QCell Q.Plus panels are made in Malaysia, not Germany. "They used to have a production line in Germany, but they shipped the plant equipment to Malaysia in 2012, so Hanwha Q CELLS does not produce any German made panels" (https://www.solarquotes.com.au/panels/hanwha-q-cells-review.…).

This system is not made in Germany at all. Dishonesty in these kinds of quotes is a good indicator to the quality of company you are dealing with.

    • What you say is true, however both SMA and Qcell are German engineered products, thats how they brand themselves. It's written all over the box they come in. Thats why I wrote "engineered" in the OP. Not trying to be misleading, just following the line of marketing these companies want to be branded as. We are in no way trying to push one product over another either, we just offer the choice of different brands and customers can make their own mind up.

  • No system is actually made in germany these days. All the well named brands have outsourced their production line to China. Even the Apple iphone you hold these days says made in China. But Apple is still an American phone and American brand. We dont call it chinese. Similarly, SMA is a german company, their design and technology and head office is all in/from germany. It doesnt make any difference where the product is actually made as the company claims the warranty and assures the performance. All the manufacturers in different countries have to follow the same guidelines and standards in order to be acclaimed withe company's name. Systems/panels/inverters are categorized in tiers.
Tier 1 is the best obviously. And SMA, Fronius they all fall under tier 1. A Chinese system/inverter can be tier 1 as well as long as it follows or falls under the standards and regulations set by the industry.
    Hope this helps

    • Fronius inverters are still 100% made in Austria, not China. Also, the tier system only applies to panels, an inverter cannot be tier1/2/3.

  • does anyone know if there is still any government rebates available for installing solar panels?
