Sennheiser PXC 550 Bluetooth Wireless over-Ear Headphones $399 With Trade-in of old NC Headphones ($627 Without) @ Harvey Norman

70

Missed out on the ebay mega deal on QC35's and started my search for PXC550/MDR1000X based on headphone reviews and feedback's. Landed on HN website accidentally and noticed that if you trade in your old Noise cancelling headphones, you can grab the PXC550 for $399 down from HN RRP of $627. Deal is on until 30th July 2017.

I am pretty sure this is the cheapest I can find for these set of cans. I am not sure what constitutes "old pair of noise cancelling headphones" and it doesn't say anything about it in T & C's or on the product page. I will be heading to HN store shortly to gather details about it. Thanks.

Edit: The rep at HN told me that any NC headphones will do, even an el cheapo but has to be NC. A minute later he came back and said that if I am willing to buy today he can waive the trade-in bit off and sell the PXC 550 at $399. Offer in-store only and not available online.

I spent my entire lunch hr at nearby JB test driving QC35, MDR1000X & PXC550 since HN didn't have MDR in stock. Boy o Boy, Bose do have some serious contenders in this segment!!

I was hoping to get an el cheapo NC headphones from Kmart or the likes and trade that in. But no such details about that on the website. I am heading over to HN to get more info about this. Meanwhile I thought I will post what I found.

    They're already $399 Delivered Here.

    • Fair enough!! With Amex cashback it brings it down to $349 and if travelling overseas TRS on that makes it an eye-watering deal.

Seems like a good deal :) If you're heading down already, just get them to price match it without the need for the trade-in.

        • Good point. I will give that a shot. Thanks.

  • Anyone who bought that $250 Bose QC35 NC headphone and going to trade-in for this one? :p

    • I might

For the last 2 weeks I have tried to decide if I should buy the QC35 or these Sennheiser PXC 550 for my next 4, 15 hours flights.

I tried both, NC I reckon that its the same… the QC35 are more comfy but more basic ( no touch or a good APP )…

PXC550 - Looks better quality ( leather etc ) & it has better sound quality & great features ….

i have both PXC550 is better, if bose was the standard for NC PX550 would be 97% of bose NC. With that u get better details sounds, and stronger bass. Comfort wise they are both good because its over ear, bose is slightly lighter and grip not as tight. Bluetooth is also more reliable on PXC550. QC35 drops out more often. The recent Bose firmware bug is still ongoing os if u get the qc35 make ssure to stick with 1.06

      • Thank you so much… I was actually more convinced to buy the QC35 just because of the extra better comfort but now I need to get myself an Amex card lol…

  • I’ve been trying to decide between Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2’s (though no longer seem to be had at a decent price anymore), These PXC550 or go the Sony MDR-1000X. I can get both the Sennheiser and Sony’s pretty cheap with QFF points, or the Sony at Addicted To Audio at $443 - decsions decsions.

Since I was going to plonk a fair chunk of my cash on these can's, I wanted to be absolutely sure that I am getting the right one. I spent a great deal of time with these 2 headsets over the weekend at JB near me. Calls on Sony are absolutely shite and muffled. My wife was having a hard time hearing me and vice versa. Paired her phone same issue. I rang a few mates from my phone and all said the same thing. At around this point I started to hear cracking noise on the headset. On and off but not consistent!!. My ears start to warm pretty bad and hurt after about 30 mins of wearing them.

I spent the same amount of time with PXC550, it was magic and a breeze. It was so light that I even forgot I was wearing them. Was able to connect my phone and a display laptop in the store (Good distance between them). Was able to stream songs from youtube on the laptop and it cut out when my wife rang me and the calls were crystal clear. Once the call ended, the music automatically started. NC was awesome, about 96% of that of QC35. Whilst the max volume is equivalent to 70% off the volume in Sony, I am sure you wouldn't need to max the sound when NC is in full effect.

My Verdict is PXC550 until Sony addresses cracking sound, bluetooth calls etc in its next iteration. For me right now, its PXC550 > QC35 > Sony MDR1000x. Hoping that its offered in the ebay mega sale this Wednesday!! Would love to hear feedback's from current PXC550 and Sony owners about their experience :)

Edit: The CapTune app that accompanies PXC550 from Play Store/App Store is a stand out to customize the sound to your liking!! Touch controls takes a lot to get used to, pretty much hit & miss at the beginning.

  • Went to the local HN tonight to check these out as I have a pair of well used PXC450's and thought I could do with a new set. Wasn't going to part with the 450's as a trade in but went for a look to see what I could get. Asked one bloke about the offer and he said I'd need to get a pair of NC's to trade in. Tried the test rig out for a bit until another bloke came along and I asked if there was anything he could do. Once he realised I was ready to buy he ran off to check and came back with a resounding Yes, so popped them on the Amex for an extra $50 back, and off overseas on Monday so the TRS will make these a bargain. Do I still like my older PXC450's with the manual buttons - Yep. I'll get some replacement ear pads and give them to one of my boys. Do I like the new ones with the touchpad - we'll see how long they last but at least Sennheiser have a 2 year warranty on them.

    • Wow, glad the deal worked out for you. I would be keen to hear your thoughts on the PXC550 after you road test it. I was holding out for the eBay mega deals which turned out to be an absolute shamble.

Sennheiser 2 yr warranty is one of the best in the market. My old wired headset was replaced 2 months before the warranty ran out. I was given an additional 2 yr warranty on the replacement headset which is going great guns and only needing a earpad replacement!!

  • if you need a pair of NC headphones, in case any of the HVN dudes are not flexible - PM me, i've got an el-cheapo one that i bought when Dick Smith was closing down - happy to give em away if you're in Melb metro
