    FVF still apply.

i wish they bring back the no FVF promo. listing for 40 a month is free anyway

  • +6

Who cares about the insertion fee?
The 10% final value fee is the real headache.
Ebay should learn Taobao in China. Listing is completely free.

      Warning:
From 1 July 2017 Final Value Fees will have GST applied. What was for most of us 9.9% FVF will then be a 10.9% Final Value Fee.

So closer to 11% FVF if sold after end of June.

      • Is this going ahead now that foreign purchase gst is being deferred for another year?

        • Yes, it is.

        • +2

Just received this info about GST on FVF from ebay in my messages. It comes with their new FVF pricing structure that starts July 1. Clearly states they will be charging 10.9% regardless of whether the ATO will be collecting it from them or not.

ebay are calling this the "Netflix" tax. That's their message heading. Given the relative amounts involved we should all be calling it the "ebay" tax.

This is NOT the widely discussed foreign purchase GST. The FVF tax relates to all sales by all sellers on Australian ebay and is paid by the seller.

          @rifter:

You might have seen our recent email about changes to Australian tax legislation (the "Netflix" tax) which will impact fees on eBay. We want to provide you with some further details about this change and how it may affect you.

This legislative change imposes Goods and Services Tax (GST) on digitally delivered services offered to Australian based consumers by non-resident suppliers, starting 1 July 2017. This includes the eBay service.

          If you’re a private seller:

GST of 10% will be applied to your fees and will be shown on your monthly invoice. We recommend you familiarise yourself with our updated rate card ahead of this change.

          If you’re a business seller:

If you have a valid Australian Business Number (ABN) and are registered for GST, you can get an exemption by registering your ABN with eBay here (make sure you enter your ABN with no spaces). No GST will be applied to your fees.

        • @Online Bathroomware:

Thankyou for the direct quote from the ebay email I deleted. I can't stop myself from adding the following comment.

It is important that you give ebay your ABN so the ATO can track all your ebay sales. We do not want any sales on ebay to go untaxed, company or otherwise, as has happened way to often in the past.

        • @rifter:

So does that mean that ebay is now going to pay tax in Australia as well? Instead of shunting it offshore "to Switzerland"?

        • @odysseus:

No. You are going to pay it via the 10% added to FVF. They ebay hold that money interest free. In a year or so ebay then forward it to ATO, probably via a Cranston type arrangement.

People get 40 free listing per month anyway so its kinda moot unless someone is flooding ebay with 40+ items
I absolutely loathe overseas seller / dropshippers who flood ebay with the same repeated listing, makes searching difficult.

They could've made one listing of say Samsung S8 and set stock at 40, but noooooooo they made 40 listings of 1 each, assholes.

    • 'People get 40 free listing per month anyway …'

      WORD, bro.

eBay itself is now a monopolistic sham

    • +1

      '… a monopolistic sham'

Dead right. The fact that they staunchly refuse to instigate any sort of feedback/user-rating system on Gumtree (which they bought out years ago when it was becoming obvious that it was way better than Fee-bay, because it was free to use) is proof of that.

BTW, what is the biggest operation/site out there that is comparable to Gumtree (i.e., free to sell on) but does have a seller feedback/rating system? I think I'll sell some stuff on it right now, just to boost their numbers/sales…

There's quicksales, no final value fees etc from what I remember. But there's a whopping 10 buyers on there.

        • It doesn't hurt. I've often gone to buy stuff there, but find they don't have the relevant item that is on ebay for sale. Or if they do, sellers charge more even though they don't have the fees to worry about.

I'm happy to support sellers there - but offer a realistic price when there's obvious alternatives elsewhere.

As a seller there though, high popularity items will get sold, but it's much harder if it's a niche item, even when offered cheaper than ebay.

  • is this targeted? Cant seem to sign up

    • i think so, i got an email and there was an activate button

    • You don't need to sign-up rx. Insertion fees are already free, unless you're selling heaps of stuff, all at once.

  • No deal
