  Status Audio is a ripoff company. Reviews are paid for or sponsored and any real reviews are by suckers who have fallen for their very effective marketing BS. Recommend you all read this reddit post so you don't get scammed!

  The Status Audio CB-1 is basically a rebadged (or debadged) Somic MM163 currently available for less than $63AUD at Tinydeal.

  The Somic MM163 is not a bad headphone but by no means better than Audio-Technica's ATH-M50. The build quality is nowhere near as good and neither is the sound.

  If the Status Audio marketing has worked on you then get a set of the Somic MM163 and debrand them yourself but don't support Status Audio's dodgy marketing practices by paying their marked up prices!

  Toasty that link seems to refer mostly to another model in the maker's range and is very inconclusive IMHO. I'm not interested in purchasing these anyway so I'm not looking further (eg the mentioned youtube link). I feel you need to provide better proof that this model is to be avoided. Stress I am not buying nor interested so there is no bias in my reply.

    Fair call @havebeerbelywillsumo. I'm not saying they're bad headphones, just that Status Audio's positioning as an anti-brand is BS. Worse still, is that their marketing is pretty dishonest really considering how many YouTubers/Bloggers they have sponsored and the sheer volume of astroturfing they've evidently orchestrated.

    However, and most importantly to OzBargainers, is the fact that all their headphones can be had for much less by purchasing the Chinese manufacturer's OEM branded ones (Somic, Dolphin etc).

    Example BS from their site:
    "Headphones are over-priced, over-marketed, and too often under-deliver.
    The industry is steeped in old-school business practices, and the consumer is losing. We sell directly to you online. No retail/distributor mark-ups, excessive marketing campaigns, or celebrity endorsements."
