Audio Technica Ath ADG1X and AG1X $239 @ JB Hi-Fi

210

Gday!

Check out this deal.

Cheapest I could find across the internet. The cans are based off the Audiophile grade A900x and Ad900x. Which are seriously good sound punchers for music and movies. But also happen to be awesome for games.

Basically these headsets are those headphones with a decent microphone attached.

Been using a900x as my dailies for 2 years and the previous version of these headsets (which were based on the 700 series) both are truly awesome!

Good price and they will destroy ANY headset. Espically astros

Enjoy!

Out of that lot I like ADG1X the best. Looks like AD700 with a mic attached.

    • Well the old series of Audio-Technica gaming headsets were based on the 700 series. I have the open back version right next to me.

This new series is based on the 900's so decent upgrade.

Common thing todo is get 700's or 900's and put a mod mic on them. THe microphone on these headsets is as good if not better than the mod mic, and if you look at the price of a pair of AD900x or A900x + a mod mic. It is quite the deal!

      Highly recommend!

If you don't have a decent set of cans you should definitely grab these. It's recommended to use a powered amp to reach their full potential.

Currently using AD900X with a mod mic for PC, and the ADG1 for Xbox / travelling.

        • Currently using AD900X with a mod mic for PC

Is that cheaper than getting the ADG1?

        • @lostn: No, it's not. If I had the option to between the AD900X with mic, or the ADG1X, I would choose the latter.

        • @Online Bathroomware: ADG1X is the same as AD900X but with mic right? Or is it slightly different?

        • @lostn: Practically the same. You'll want a powered amp to take full advantage of them though.

        • @Online Bathroomware: What's an example of an amp?
What should I be looking for?

  • Get an AT2020 usb or ADG1X hmmmm.

The mic quality for the ATH-PG1 for $99 sounds pretty damn good.

    • The audio technica headset mics are really nice. More than enough for most people. Heres a video i made using the adg1 headset for voice recording.

Straight into the pc with the default recording app in windows.

Im trying to decide on getting a mod mic for my a900xs or getting the ag1x for deadicated game… hard choice.

I was thinking about grabning a deadicated usb mic and boom arm. But thats a big investment.

    • Are you streaming or making YT videos?

A full size condenser is way overkill for just chatting with mates. It's a great mic though, way better than a Blue Yeti.

      • Yeah I am. But still, after the amount of money ive thrown at tech the last 2 months not sure I can justify another $200 for just a mic. Especially since it doesnt earn me anything.

  • Been on the Astro A30s for the past 7 years. They've treated me well but the AG1X looks like a good upgrade for me. I'm guessing since AG1X is 'Isolation' it is better for gaming?

At this price point, would this headset be the best to get? Primarily used for gaming and some casual music listening.

Yep these would be a big upgrade. Even if just plugging into a controller without amplification.

Technically open back is better for gaming. But if you live in a noisey home or plan on taking them to a lan for example closed back is a must.

I have open back of the previous gen. Which are really nice. But i think im gonna go closed next time, since i live in close quarters eith my wife.

      • Thanks for the comment. I've done a bit of research as well and I think the open backs are actually better for my situation. I don't really lan and it's pretty quiet at home haha

I've got the mixamp from the astros would they make these better?

        • +1

Astro mix amps are nice. I ordered one to use with my setup. And have reports they work well with these series of headsets. Since youve got it, wouldnt hurt to see how it goes. Your current settings probably wont work though, so expect a little tweaking.

        • @Justin Powell:

Hey mate I bought the ADG1X last night from JB Sunshine. I couldn't stop listening to them for music + Astro MixAmp 5.8 (2010) last night - the sound is amazing! Unfortunately I wasn't able to try Gaming much, and I'm sure there will be more tweaking involved for that. For games like CS:GO would it be better to set the sound as Stereo Headphones or 5.1 Surround?

There is a problem in my setup however I can't get the microphone to work on Discord. I've tried changing different inputs but I cannot get it to recognise the ADG1X'S mic.

Currently I have connected the Optical Cable from the TX unit to my Motherboard.
ADG1X is connected to the RX unit on the bottom-left (the 3.5mm port with the headset symbol next to it).
Chat cable connected to the TX unit (USB) to my PC's front I/O mic port (3.5mm).

        • @Khriso:

Hey mate. Glad you hear you picked up a pair.

I only got my mix amp today so i havent tested. But ive read alot of people choose to have the virtual surround off because the soundstage is so good. No personal tests yet however.

As for your chat. Its over USB. So you probably need to go into your sounds and enable it as default mic. Also since its usb. There is prob somesort of driver involved. Have you installed the software?

    • If you are used to Astros, Steelseries, Turtle Beach or any other gaming headsets, this will be a marked improvement in AQ, because Audio Technica is one of the higher end audio labels. Gaming headsets on the other hand tend to be poor in AQ in comparison.

Open back gives you better sound stage, but if you're in a noisy environment, it has its drawbacks obviously.

  • Considering these, anyone know how would they stack up versus AD500x + separate mic? What is this headset equivalent to in headphones?

Also don't like how you need to use the 2m extension to use it as a headset on PC. Mine only has to travel 1.2M :/
    Wish the cable was removable.
    Is the mic removable?

Edit just realised that the AD500x has a 3M non removable cable, which is highly inconvient for me, especially when listening to music.
I think the 1.2M cable on this is the better option, can always add an extension or adapter for gaming.

    • These headsets are based off the 900 series. Which are a big leap from 500's.

And remember a mod mic is $100 almost. So unless you can get a Ad900 or a900 for $139 youre ahead.

  • Which of these has like a mesh or fabric on the earcups (not leather)? I live in a humid area year long and leather literally peels off them..

    • +1

The ADG1X has fabric on the earcups.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems nearly all audio technica Open back design ones have fabric and closed have leather

The open back version will let your ears breath and has fabric ear cups :)

      • Thank you guys! & using them on PS4 means cable into my controller? I guess wireless connection would be preferred but there's always trade-offs!

        • Yeah it does. Although if you have an astro mix amp you can just directly into that for superior audio.

just a note on plugging into the controller. These headphones/sets work best when powered by an AMP. But I still great results plugging into the 3.5mm jack on my xbox controllers so you should be fine!

        • @Justin Powell: Thanks for all the tips and advice Justin, probably common sense here but I'd assume the headset would drain my controller battery even faster?

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Yeah it would. Something has gotta drive them. PS4 controllers are inbuilt battery right?

I get perfectly fine battery life from my xbox controller. But I use nice rechargeable batteries.

        • PS4 doesn't support wireless headphones unless it comes with a dongle, like the Sony official ones.

  • Thanks OP. I just picked up the PDG1 for the bargain price of $99.

    • What console are you using them for?

      • Console? No console here mate. I have a PC. 😉

        • haha all g ;) Is the material non leather? If you got the open ones that is!
