Belkin Wemo Switch + Motion - $29 Delivered @ JB Hi-Fi

520

Credit to deal junkie for the original JB Hi-Fi clearance post here

I thought this was worthy of its own post

Been looking for a cheap Belkin Switch and this looks like it is the switch as well as a motion sensor. The lowest prices I was able to find were upwards of $50 so I thought this was a decent deal.

Some reviews here:
https://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/belkin_australia/wemo_…
https://www.cnet.com/au/products/belkin-wemo-switch-plus-mot…

The description on the JB site says compatible with Apple but most reviews I have read indicate compatibility with Android too (hopefully that is true).

Was going to post this myself :-) If it's OK, here's some extra details:

The Switch is a standalone (wifi-controlled) mains power switch that you can plug nearly any device into - lights, fans, coffee machines, etc. It can be locally switched, as well as viewed and controlled remotely with the WeMo app (iOS and Android), or more elaborate control via IFTTT, Google Assistant etc. It's also possible to set up simple rules like timed operation or triggers.

The Motion is a short-range (~3m) motion sensor that can be used to trigger other WeMo devices (such as the included Switch) when you walk past, like turning on a hall light or turning off a fan.

Original bundle (was briefly $49.95 but now discontinued). The Switch alone costs $56 at Kogan or $69 at Officeworks, but the Motion is difficult to find outside of this bundle.

    • Would like to use this with a plugged in light for the young ones as a night light in the hall/powder room entry to the toilet.
I get that it would turn the light on, but is there a way to have it turn off minutes later?

Walk back past the sensor to turn it off?

        • Yeah, was wondering if that's how they work, or if there was an issue with that. Forgot to say.
Never seen them before and not sure.

      • Yes, you can set timers so that lights stay on for X minutes.

I use a Switch connected to a light that turns on with the Motion and stays on for 30 minutes from the time it was last triggered. I also have another Switch that turns my electric blanket off 1 hour after I turn it on, and turns it on again 1 hour before my alarm.

Does this play nice with LIFX?

    • Perhaps through IFTTT

    • +1

Unfortunately not instantly… I have tried with LIFX… delay in response can be up to 2 minutes to turn the light on… sometimes will only take a few seconds. Not sure of the exact reason, but perhaps IFTTT only "looks" for the trigger to be activated every couple of minutes? If anyone has a solution, would love to hear.

I use this sensor to trigger a light which is connected to a WEMO switch; that response is reliably within 1 sec

    • Connect through NodeRed or HomeBridge and it should work ok.

  • Grr running a few TP-Link devices here, only way I could use both is to go down the Google home route

    Still cheap tho hmm

Plugs into any regular 120v wall outlet.

    Great attention to detail JB

Didn't really need one, but just ordered it. Belkin will be adding HomeKit compatibility to their WeMo range(probably with a bridge) so hopefully this works with that in the future.

    No longer available :(

Sold out. Missed it by that much…

Just to say, but I have one of these and haven't bothered to get more.

Instead I run Home Assistant to integrate things, with a Broadlink RM Pro to deliver IR and RF capability, and then just use remote mains switches to turn items on and off.

If you just want one, then it might be OK, but if you want 10 then it's cheaper to skip the individual units. Plus the IR can control the AV stuff.

  • Just got one and now it's sold out, hope they won't refund my money saying they ran out.

Pretty sure I need this, just not sure what I need it for - what are you guys using it for?

    • Simplest use would be to auto turn on/off a lamp at night on a schedule or based on motion?

      • Or you can set flood lights on to wake you up/blind you in the morning

  • Had 1 in my cart but too slow

  • Damn just what i need for my Wemo collection. Missed out.

  • mine says in progress.

Doh! Too slow. Red reviews instead of buying first and asking question later. Now it's gone.

      The OzBargain lesson.

  • I now get an eulogy:

"The page you were after lived a good and happy life, but now it is no longer with us. That's ok though, because we have thousands more that are alive and just as great."

    • RIP in piece.

  • Has anyone integrate these wemo products into their Domoticz setup? If so, what are your feedback on them?

  • toll bag arrived this morning - already got my wemo.

    • That was quick. I see mine has been picked up by Toll this morning, not sure if it'll be delivered today.

    • Mine just arrived too! Awesome.
