    Awesome work again!

  • +4

    Is this waterproof?

    • +3

I don't believe so however i had mine under the eaves for the last 2-3 weeks surviving melbourne cold morning. Still works perfectly and no condensation

      • +3

Just curious, how did you source the power from outside the house?

        • +3

I have a couple of GPOs installed inside the roof space so I plug the power adapter in the GPO and drill a tiny hole in the eave plaster board for micro USB to come out to connect to the camera.

        • +1

Mine was near the garage door opener so close enough to plug in. Using the phone charger to power it

      • +2

Will this be OK for a security camera?

        • +1

Yes if you mod it. It will put out a rtsp stream. The nightvision is trash however.

  • +4

Terrific first time post Thomas ah op :)

  • Not familiar with this stuff. Never looked into them before…
I wouldn't mind something cheap that I can use to watch the kids when they play in one part of the yard while I'm inside renovating.

Would this work or should I be looking at a different kind of camera?
    Thanks folks.

    • Perfect for that purpose. Please bear in mind that it is not weatherproof so has to be installed under the eave or the cover. Also you need a GPO to plug its power adapter.

  • Is there any difference between this and https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/312001

    • yep, the price and seller

      • But the camera is exactly the same? They have different names, that's why the confusion.

        • The name isn't different…

@Spackbace: Original Xiaomi Smart 1080P Wi-Fi IP Camera vs Xiaomi XiaoFang 1080p Portable Smart Wi-Fi IP Camera

        • @avitherock:

Same name in the descriptions. They've just titled this one differently

  • +1

Is this international version? i.e. will it work in Australia with software update support etc? I noted in description it says "It only can be used in non-European and American region right now." Can anyone have this share their experience? Thanks in Advance.

    • +1

I have had one since it was announced and yes it does work. Use the mi home app and set your region to mainland China.

Do note that the two way audio doesn't work, on initial firmware it was but since 2.8 / 3.0 firmware it doesn't work at all :/

      • +1

2 way audio works on mine on 2.9.0.7

        • +1

Works now on 3.0.4 for some reason. Have to long press on mic instead of just tapping like you used to. And now the button labels are in English. Confusing

        • +1

          @adrianhughes1998:

Yeah took me a lil while to figure out you had to long press, the lag makes it cumbersome.

        • +2

@CVonC: I agree. In fact the whole app can be laggy at times while waiting for it to refresh. Which can make turning off home gateway a bit longer when I get home in my car.

But considering it's all three to four times cheaper than homekit apple shit I shouldnt complain

This reminds me to open an ebay case against Shopping Square. Ordered one since 30-April and still see no sight of it.

    • +3

don't accept their bullshit excuse. seek compensation through ebay and paypal

    • +2

My last one took over a month to arrive

    • +1

i am on same boat and opened the case few days ago. Shopping Square agreed to process the refund.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat, though ShoppingSquare gave me a tracking number after I contacted them; I kept the ebay case opened though since it's suspiciously no longer tracked.

    • I'm in the same boat too. They told me to be patient and wait for another 15 business days and close my ebay Dispute. Glad I'm not naive enough to do it… I'll give it another 5 business days and that's it.

    • just thought I would add, bought 3 on shopping square a month ago (last deal) didn't have high hopes…
they arrived 7 days after ordering (5 business days) free freight

    • Me too, I would have forgotten about it if I hadn't seen this post. I have just logged an eBay dispute now.

    • I'm in the same boat as well. They told me to be patient and wait for another 15 business days and close my ebay Dispute - I am not going to do that!

    • Ditto here on waiting on ShoppingSquare.
Mind you, earlier this month a package from China turned up that was ordered on Ebay back in January. I had long figured it as 'lost in transit'.

    • Also bought same day as yourself… just logged a dispute. Thanks!

  • Does anyone have a surplus of the Xiaoyi Yi IP Webcam 720p? I'd like to purchase some cheap for a project.

  • Cashrewards

Cashback for New Customers: 2.40 %
Cashback for Existing Customers: 0.80 %

  • Is this really any good?

    • yes. use it to monitor driveway and front door. useless at night because of reflection on the window of the IR. But excellent day time monitoring..

  • Does this have RTSP?

    • I have one and it doesn't have RTSP… apparently there's a hack for it but I haven't tried it before

  • Can u record the footage as well or just live stream it?
Update: just read support 64gb card so yes it can save video as well

  • Got one . Thanks OP

  • +1

Hi guys, do you know if you can setup Trigger areas on this one like the next model up? So like, select a window or a door in the frame and when movement is detected, it starts recording or send you an alert?

    • Nope don't think so. It will send a notification when movement is detected anywhere within the frame. Pretty sensitive, a bird or even insect can set it off.

  • +1

Beside having this device recording to the memory card, can you configure(via RTSP once you've loaded the hack?) it to record the footage to a computer or to a NAS?

  • Does anybody know what this line in the description means?
Note: New edition camera has been arriving. The products both editions of the new and old we send are random. And the needle will not be attached again in the new.

It sounds like they want to offload old versions of the camera. Are there different versions?

    • last buy from shopping square I bought 3

2 have a little hole that needs a needle to enter setup mode (pin/needle thing included)
1 has a tact switch to press instead

not sure which one is the newer one

      • I bought mine back in Feb (firmware 2.9.0.7) and it has a needle hole.

      • Oh that's all. I was worried that there was a newer improved camera with higher specs.

  • Is this going to do a good job for a baby monitor camera?

    • +1

I wouldn't use any IP camera as a baby monitor as they're easily hacked. Don't want some idiot screaming through the speaker scaring the kids or baby in the middle of the night. I'd only ever use IP cameras on the outside of the house. Assume that ALL IP cameras are broadcasting publicly on the internet and position them accordingly.

      • This is actually something I should definitely think about.

      • Yeah that is somewhat of a concern about IP cameras and particularly these Chinese ones. I position mine in the windows facing outside and they are perfect for monitoring during the day. But the IR will be totally useless at night because of reflection. I'd feel a bit uneasy about using them inside.

      • Not if you setup an internal VLAN and segregate the Camera network to work with its own subnet and no external access. Or at least through a secured server.

    • Based on the comments in this thread yes. The camera is good for general duties, night vision is bad but otherwise if it's undercover it's a good cheap camera.

      • It is a great camera and $30 is a bargain. Very good quality video and love the way it sends a notification with 15 second video when movement is detected. I kind of want to place one outside under the eaves, but I am worried it will not last long due to moisture/condensation.

  • +1

BE MINDFUL GUYS, This camera doesn't send the email with photo capture at the time of Motion Detection. Also the cloud recording is inaccessible when camera is offline/stolen/lost etc..

    • So when does it send a photo via email? When it feels like it?

      • AFAIK, it doesn't email you or anything. I'm using mi home app and when motion detection enabled it send you notification. Unless i didn't set it up to the max of its capability. Kind of hard when the menu is half in chinese.

    • This is well worth noting for those looking to use it outdoors for security. If the crooks see it and nick it, your great motion capture of their face is gone forever. Unless you employ the hack and record yourself via RTSP.

  • +1

I'm getting $34.29 for the price now. Am I missing something?

    • Same…

      • Allotted units sold out.

    • We just added 500 more stock for this deal

  • I'm still on the search for a unit which allows full duplex voice without lag :(

    Any recommendations?

Makes me wonder why steam, skype, in game voice all work, yet for some reason we cant have an intercom over IP with the same performance

  • Anyone know how to actually make one of these connect to WiFi?

I got one the last time there was a deal up, I get to the part where the app makes me wave a QR code in front of the camera and then it brings up a progress bar of connecting the camera to WiFi but it fails at 89 or 90% each time and asks to retry.

    • Set your region to Mainland China in the app.

  • I also got scammed by shopping square

  • I thought this deal was open 'til the 16th? what happened?

    cheers

    • +1

Sorry for the inconvenience,we dont work yesterday so the flash sale stock was used up yesterday.
But I have already informed my colleague at 500 more stock for you.

  • Hi op,any chance could you pls bring this deal back to live since I have already informed my colleague added 500 more stocks.

  • Anyone know if you can get it to trigger photo taking/video recording when pair with a Xiaomi PIR sensor like this: http://www.gearbest.com/smart-light-bulb/pp_257678.html?wid=…

  • Anyone received their camera from this sale yet? Still waiting on mine

    • I received mine about 2 weeks ago.

      • Hrmm ok maybe I did receive it. Wasnt sure if it was a late Shopping Square one or from Gearbest.

        • Funny you mentioned Shopping Square. I never received my camera from them.

        • @SCHMUCK:

Gearbest camera just aarrived today. The other one was from I m shopping square and took about 6 weeks or so.

  • I've got one of these which is not being used as I moved houses and now just on wifi connection.

Just after $10 - located near Moorabbin.

Drop me a pm if interested

  • I just saw that this is up on a flash sale again @ Gear Best for the next 6 days. ~$25 AUD. Good camera for the money.
