Without consulting anyone, someone in our organization purchased about 20 or so of these and deployed them. Within minutes, he was getting complaints how they won't work. The Plantronics sales rep, without batting an eyelid, immediately blamed the wireless and recommended that the office wireless be turned off to get these headsets to work.

Unknown to the sales rep and the buyer, buried in the documentation of this unit is a warning about the density of these headsets. I don't remember exactly the correct figure but it was stated, for example, that four headset per nine square metres. They deployed figures was like twelve headsets per nine square metres.

Did I say that the purchase was non-refundable?

but there ones are for mobile. you must be talking about the business headsets.

    • I thought that there was no such thing as a non-refundable purchase of goods or services that aren't fit for purpose according to the ACL?

      • The person who made the purchase tried. Oh try, he did. But their business line didn't get the money back.

  • Does it come with the charger base?

    • No looks like this is just for headset and flexible usb charging cable. check officeworks for the same product code, in the comments section someone mentioned they didnt get a desktop charging stand for this. (speaking for the legend)

  • I've got the voyager 5200 which is very good, not sure how this compares.

  • Which is better out of the Plantronics Voyager Legend & Plantronics Explorer 500? The legend is the prosumer range but it is dated and only comes with Bluetooth 3.0 vs 4.1 for the Explorer 500

    • I just bought the Explorer 500 due to the smaller size, so here are my initial impressions…

      Call/Mic Quality
I called my partner and she said they sound similar to my Xiaomi Piston 3/4's but it's more consistent and clearer, especially when I am driving with the windows down, plus i don't have to place the mic near my mouth.

      Sound Quality
Sound quality is lacking and really doesn't compare to regular wired earphones. Probably due to the fact it is only one ear, but even then there is no bass so this headset is average in that regard. Volume could be much better but to me it was just enough with the window down and okay with the windows up. Use it in the left ear if you like to drive with the window down.

      Bluetooth
The headset paired quickly and I tested the range to about 12m from my phone before I started getting drop outs.

      Build
This is very light so it fits in my ear comfortably and stays put, even without the over ear clip. I can jump around and they won't easily fall out.

The main thing is that this is convenient and I don't know why I ever drove with wired earphones before :(

I'm not sure if this will be useful to anyone but personally, I would go with the Voyager Edge which can be currently had for $85.56 on Ebay Delivered From PC Byte (ends 11 June).

My mother had the Voyager Legend and while it is by no means a slouch, it is bulkier (can get in the way of glasses), and broke down twice during an 18 month period. Now, to be fair, mum isn't exactly gentle with her devices but she and I both upgraded to the Voyager Edge and have had no problems. This one also comes with a carrying + Charging case which is worth its weight in gold (doesn't weigh much).

Some comparison. The Legend has a better NR for outside noises, does better at wind and car noise reduction in my experience. It also lasts longer on a single charge if that is a must for you. Furthermore, I believe the microphone is just a bit better if you were to put them side by side. But really, you wouldn't tell the difference unless you were being pedantic.

The Edge is better looking, more portable, smarter (thanks to sensors) and has adequate Noise Reduction for 90% of cases. It does really struggle with even the mildest breeze though. People can definitely hear you, but they will also know you're out and about. Same when you are driving, which kind of annoys me most. I do most of my calls while driving and I always worry that people will take offence I only call them when I can literally do nothing else… Most importantly however, the Edge is far more durable in mine and my mother's experience than the Legend. That alone is worth the extra 10 bucks over this deal in my opinion.

Again, didn't mean to hijack the thread or bash on this excellent deal. We had a great experience with the Legend and a friend of mine bought the 500 and really loves it. If you want the best, most convenient and sleeker look, get the Edge. If the best NR and clearest call quality are paramount, no compromise affairs, the Legend proves… Legen-wait for it-Dary (Sorry).

    Kindly.

  • I prefer the Voyager Legend over the Voyager Edge. Telecommunications Technician, always on the phone and working either indoors/outdoors/noisy environments.

I don't mind the bulkiness as you get an additional hour of battery (7hrs vs 6hrs talk time), it does get in the way of your glasses/sunnies but its manageable. The Edge is good in normal environments but if your outside and its super windy, the person on the other end will have a hard time hearing (Usually have to make a cup shape from my hand to block the wind. Haven't had any dramas in regards to windy environment with the Legend.

At the end of the day, if its style then go with Voyager Edge but would highly recommend these if you are working in outdoor areas. Have both of these in my vehicle and use the Edge when my Legend runs out of batteries.

Paid $85 for mine with the charge case a while back. Would definitely have purchased another if I didn't have a spare.

With Plantronics, these two headsets have 4 Year Warranty if I remember correctly and its a hot swap if they go faulty since its their high end headset.

  • My gut feeling is at this price it only includes the headset for the Voyager Legend. I dont think it will come with the charging case, and also I need the Plantronics USB dongle for clear Skype calls. Factor in those other two pieces of equipment, it my not be a deal for me. Can get from online for 160 AUD with Plantronics USB dongle and carry charging case.
