https://www.rtings.com/headphones/reviews/steelseries/arctis… - decent overall review, and comparison to competitors is useful too.

https://www.soundguys.com/steelseries-arctis-nova-1-review-7… - another one to check out.

  • what's the difference to Arctis Nova 1P

    • PlayStation compatible/themed.

      • When you can, always get the X version

I have the Nova 7, audio quality is fantastic, with tuning. Mic is pretty good, but not streaming worthy imo. SteelSeries Sonar software is excellent.
I really appreciate the twisting ear cups, sits nicely on neck and out of the way.

    Cons:
If you have a small head, it may not sit just right as the headband has very little adjustment.
Although it has a retractable mic, do not constantly pull in/out. That action puts excessive wear on the cable and will end up breaking the thin copper wires inside.
I had to replace my previous headset ( Arctis pro)

thankfully I had JB extended warranty when the issue happened, although I have now learnt the extended warranty is not necessary on expensive items, as one can claim warranty on expensive items even beyond manufacturers stated period if you push hard enough.

    • Not necessary but sometimes if the cost is small… easier to pay the cost for hassle free changeover, time wasted is time to be used elsewhere.

My rule of thumb is to check on here and forums on how painful a warranty claim is with that retailer or manufacturer and then if the cost is less than 10% of the purchase price.

Never has failed me this rule. Bought an extended warranty for a Samsung fridge… broke outside standard warranty… came out next day to replace the fan and the back inside of the fridge (stupid design where it iced up inside the assembly). No questions asked. This cause Samsung is known to be a PITA for warranty claims using ACL.

Apple never buy it for non critical devices… never had an issue to replace after a bit of prodding.

Sony again a bit of prodding and replaced outside of warranty an OLED tv.

  • Haven't tried the Nova 1P. You can get the Logitech G635 for $88 delivered on their ebay store. Those are a great wired headset with 50mm drivers. Pretty much the same as the G935 but without wireless connectivity.
I ordered the SteelSeries Nova 7X(Blue band) for $226 from Amazon (Ships from UK) last night which is a decent deal.

  • see if your local JB have them on display - might get a chance to try them on before you buy
I tried a Nova 5 there which was amazing

    • Yeah will do thanks

Firstly, not a fan of deal posts that try and crowdsource all the advice on what's posted, IMO start with the search function and work from there.

If you're going wired, you might as well get a decent closed back headphone and then wire an in-line mic into the mix (the solution will vary based on the headphone jack at the earcup and the related wiring).

Straight forward closed back options for $90-$180:

    AKG K361 ($90-$120, Amazon Sales)
FiiO FT1 ($155-$180, AliE sales with coupon & cashback stacking)

FT1 is far and away the better option, and you'll still be using it in 7+ years time, just replace the pads every so often.

I agree that the info in the post is lacking and extremely lazy, and I also think opting for closed back headphones with a mic is a good choice for PC users. However, I’m not sure this deal warrants a neg.

The two options you linked aren’t currently on sale. The AKG model dropped below $100 once, four years ago (a deal you posted). I’d be curious to know where these can found for $90 in 2025. The FiiO FT1 is still full price domestically and costs around $150 + shipping from AliExpress. Then, there’s the added cost of a mic to consider.

I’m no audiophile, but I assume you’d also recommend a DAC/amp to properly power these headphones? It seems like you’re comparing a $85 gaming headset to over $200 worth of audio gear that is only suitable for PC users. Not for those who might also want to use it with consoles.

This seems like a decent price for someone who just needs a half decent, budget headset

      • Another sales cycle is about to start with AliE tonight, so it likely will be available at the $150-$170 mark. It's such an outstanding headphone I would recommend using cheap buds and saving until you can go for it, and the price is much better than the $269 local offer.

Neither require anything amazing in terms of a DAC/amp to start, and phone/controller/motherboard output should suffice until someone is ready to scale, plus there's the mic input wiring required on such choices (not all have this and it's often not documented).

The K361 is in fairly short supply these days and was merely a lower rung recommendation. Lots of Amazon cashbacks and discounts gift cards on the regular to drag down the pricing if you have to be sub-$100.

        • Do you have any advice on discount stacking for the FT1 on aliexpress? They're currently $242.02. Combined with $30 TCB cashback that brings it down to $212.02. Any other ways to bring it down further? Cheers
