170

Just received this in an email from velocity.
Join selected Bupa health insurance cover by 30 June 2017 and you could collect up to 80,000 Velocity Points as a couple or family, or up to 40,000 Velocity Points as a single. The amount of points depend on the package selected and is awarded in installments after 2 months and 12 months. So this is best for those who anyway want to get PHI cover before EOFY.

  • How much is the joining fee? haha

If anyone could do cost vs points comparison, would be great.

just get a quick quote from them..
      Costs me 420 for 3 months to get 30k points($300 dollars )

    • Top corporate 90 is around $100 per week for a family.
… Say it takes 10 weeks to get the first phase of points (60,000)
      That's $1,000 for 60,000 points.

Of course the value should consider how much you pay for health insurance at the moment.
EG, if you currently pay $80 a week for similar cover, 60,000 points for $200 is a decent deal.

  • New customers only?

    • Like to know this as well
As my wife with them atm

If she takes a new policy. Will she get this bonus point?

Up to 60,000 points if you hold it for 2 months.

  • Dam it just switched from bupa to Qantas to medibank when u get my bonuses maybe I switch back lol

  • Pretty expensive for 80k points.

    • It is, when you have to get top hospital and extras for the whole family just get the 80k.

  • Might call later today to see what they can do for an existing customer. Will update once I know more, but expecting nothing to be given.

Alright managed to call them and got a response after getting transferred to 3 people.

They are not able to just give the points to existing members but they able to re-create a new account and close the old one, which would then qualify for the bonus. The guy on the phone (Jason), was willing to do it for me but I told him not to. Personally I have 2 issues with it:

      • I'm on corporate cover, which they cannot offer me on the new account as it is no longer available.
      • waiting periods restart again. Have some conditions where I'm not willing to jeopardize my 6/12 month for, even though technically never left BUPA.

If someone else don't have any issues like the 2 above, I don't see why you wouldn't just rejoin as an existing member.

  • I am with Medibank on a Top Cover and planning to reduce it to basic cover. If I join BUPA top cover and after 2 months reduce the cover to basic I should still get 1st installment of VFF points. Bupa is to give 1st installment of Velocity points after 2 months. Any advise if possible?

  • .. hmm, looks like I'd get more points through Qantas Assure than BUPA.. but probably should get a quote cos it seems that the former is more expensive on a "similar" cover
