Good price. That case on the other hand… P.S. Don't forget cashrewards (even though it doesnt work for me >50% of the time nowdays…)

    • You can just report an error and they'll give you the cashback.

  • +16

To buy the parts for that desktop new, the CPU and GPU alone would be the same price as that entire system :O

    • Yeah this is a rather good deal even if you choose to swap out the crap PSU / case

    • (profanity) i just paid $1070 for a skylake pc second hand

      • -2

        this isn't a toilet, don't use profanity's

    • +12

      i7-7700 = $400
      GTX 1070 = $480
      MB = $85
      Cheap SSD = $140
      Cheap HDD = $80
      Cheap Case + PSU combo = $60
      Cheap 16GB RAM ~$150

      Total new: ~$1400

About a $300 saving for the fact it's refurb parts + looks ugly as (profanity).

      • Thanks mate,
not as good as i first thought. but still a savings nonetheless

      • +5

        $60 psu

        jfmsu fam

        • I had to google jfmsu… But yes… I have better power supplies on my much older and cheaper gear.

If you are building your own system… Don't skimp on the case and PSU…. (or the motherboard).

$900 of CPU and GPU on an $85 MB? jfmsu fan!

        • https://www.centrecom.com.au/cooler-master-elite-334-mini $59 case+420W PSU

You can get cheaper crap non-branded, but cheap branded is where I draw the line.

        • @Wallyt99:
Agreed, but this Acer build wouldn't have a z270 or anything… It'd be a b250 or something at most… So $80-100 is an accurate comparison.

      • +10

And Windows 10, card reader, mouse, keyboard, dvd drive, wireless adapter and shipping cost (or petrol).

        • -1

Fair point, never paid for windows in my life (education licences/etc) so i never really consider this haha

      • hmm that puts it into perspective.. not really worth an impulse buy then.

      • Id like to see you find those parts brand new for that price. Cheap case + psu for $60 wont work with this build. You would need a minimum of $60 for the psu alone.

$85 dollar mobo? Doubt it will be better than the one in this build.

Just my 2 cents… also u wont find a case in that price range that looks good and has the same functions as this ugly mofo lol

        • These HP prebuilts used similarly specced power supplies to a cheaper PSU+Case combo. You can get a 350 or 420w with a case at this price from what I've seen, more than enough.

        • @dyl: you must be out of your mind if your going with a no brand psu at those watts.. almost suicidal.

        • @Tehcookiemonsta:
          https://www.centrecom.com.au/cooler-master-elite-334-mini

          Not really a top-tier brand, but isn't a no-brand generic.

the gaming laptops with 1060/1070 chips are a steal, enjoy whoever grabs one

  • Great price, similar build and mine cost me $2000 last year, for the box alone :(

  • +1

Acer Predator G9-793 17.3-inch Gaming Notebook (Black) is a great buy … 1070 … 17" FHD … 2 left (EOFY present for myself!)

    • +1

damn, nice self present. Im jelly

  • that's not a bad deal, it's a good step up over my gtx970 build i put together in february for 1500

  • Wow, that Desktop is so cheap.

  • +2

Don't know how to build computers and want a gaming one for our son. Should I go for it? This really is pushing our budget, especially as it will need a monitor.
    Thanks.

Edit. That's strange… None of the replies before me, showed until after I posted this question???

    • +8

Yes, you won't get this performance for this price pre-built.

      • +2

Bought the PC. He needs a laptop or PC for school anyway, so this will do it all.

Now to look at monitor deals… :-)

        • +3

I remember telling my parents we needed a PC for school work. I think it was used for education about 3-4%.

        • +1

I would highly recommend a 1440p monitor if he will use it for multitasking whilst studying. Having two full pages open side by side is very easy on the eyes and saves alot of time. They do cost more but perhaps you could look at two second hand 1080p screens until your budget allows a better upgrade? you could get some cheap 24" screens if you are not fussy.

        • Hah, hah, yep!

Buying him Arma 3 when it's on sale next. I'm going to have this kid staying up late way too much when this thing arrives.

        • +3

@Expon: Yes, i highly recommend 144hz 1440p aswell. Make sure it has g-sync as he will need it for… education, and screen tearing on microsoft word is common.

        • He needs a laptop or PC for school anyway

Yeah, he won't be using this for school, but it's the better option over a gaming laptop.

        • @rattle:
          You're a great parent :)

    • +2

Xbox consoles were going for under $300 last night and use the TV.

    • +1

This is an excellent gaming computer - it will be able to play anything for a few years to come. The only possible way it wouldn't be is if your son got a 4K monitor, which you can't afford at this point I imagine! 4K gaming is way past the point of diminishing returns at this stage still! You son would love it!

    • Don't let not knowing how to build one put you off doing so, there's plenty of guides out there if you're not sure; but for the most part, everything is plug and play. reddit.com/r/buildapc is very helpful with specific questions.

Everyone who's built one didn't know how to at some point.

      • But they generally started with replacing a video card, then ram and maybe even a CPU upgrade before doing so….

  • can this type of machine play 4k games?

    • yes, but not at max settings for some AAA titles

    • -2

If you have a 4k gaming monitor ($$$$) it shouldn't be a problem for you to afford to just upgrade the GPU to a 1080ti or maybe whatever Vega ends up being capable of.

  • I'm not normally into refurb, but this looks great.

    • I wisk 4K screens were more prevalent though.

  • +3

Holy moly, that 17" 8gb 1070 laptop for $1168 is insanely cheap! I missed out by seconds due trying to get my credit card/paypal details in.

Ended up buying the G9-593 15" 6gb 1060 for $1120. I know the performance hit my gaming laptop just took because I couldnt enter my details quick enough but still managed to walk away with a amazing bargain.

Some how i still feel ripped off though… Damm you quick people!!

(Now i have to tell my wife about it)

  • +1

The reviews point out the design limitations. Even the audio output is limited.

Fine if it suits your needs as is though.

  • Damn, sold out while I was in check out.

  • Another one bites the dust

  • that desktop price is ridiculously cheap, I am thinking of buying one and sell it for parts !

    • Don't think too long - almost sold out!

  • +1

    What a bargain!!! Great find

  • sold out of Acer Predator G3-710

  • +1

    Dammit! missed it by seconds

  • Literally missed out by seconds.

  • Just when I'm looking to upgrade from my GTX580

  • Looking forward to a cancelled order if their usual form is anything to go by.

  • +1

For guys who missed this offer, don't worry Intel has announced new CPU i9 two days ago, usually price will continue to drop when a new CPU announced, I guess some people might just wait for this cpu :p

  • +1

Acer Predator G1-710 Gaming Desktop (Black / Red) 1 available, differance is its i7-6700 & GTX 970

    • too late… This item is out of stock.

  • Damn desktop sold before I could finish checkout

  • +1

wow the 17 inch with 1070 absolute bargain, probalby cheaper than building a desktop variant with monitor keyboard mouse
missed out :( $2558 at HN so less than half price

  • +1

DAMN IT!!! this was the one product I've been looking to purchase :( was within my 1k budget and ticked all the boxes :(

  • +4

guys dont be surprised if you get an email a few days later from grays online claming "stock issue". I bought a cheap Thinkpad from them in their last ebay deal and they never fulfilled it, was so disappointing. Surprised they have managed to claw back their reputation after the Samsung SSD stuff up as well. Really a terrible company, and their stock management systems are garbage. But good luck, hope some of you get what you ordered.

    • +1

      yeh, not expecting too much.
everything I bought from them has been cancelled with all sort of excuses.

    • +1

Happened to me a while back when they had cheap Sandisk SSD's. Happened on both their eBay and website. Hope it goes through for everyone though.

  • What's a good non-gaming desktop for light image/video processing and rendering, and just normal everyday tasks (Ms Office and web browsing etc)? I have a good laptop (Asus for uni), but I prefer desktops to laptops. I have an old Dell SFF, but it struggles even with few flash-based tabs like YouTube and the fan starts going nuts.

    • Metabox with a decent graphics card

      • Thanks

        • Ah sorry, desktop. Build your own or pay someone to build one for you. Check reddit or whirlpool for common builds

        • @tomkun01: Yeah, I can build one if I want to (cert. IV in IT from Tafe a decade ago, though I wasted it lol), but I am too lazy and can't be bothered. Haha

  • +1

Good deal, especially for the 17.3" 1070 model. Bit miffed that I paid $2400 for a similar MSI model last night, though I wanted the 120hz G-Sync panel.

To the guys who purchased, be mindful that Grays Online has cancelled and refunded items before due to incorrect pricing. Not saying that is the case here, but they are really cheap.

    • +1

They have sold cheap items before and the prices are right, they even state the discount price with voucher, but they have a very bad habit of claiming they have more stock than they actually do. They probably have either one, or only a few.

    • +1

Where did you get the MSI laptop from?

  • That 17" laptop looks sweet, but also very bulky. A bit of a compromise for portability

    • +1

at 1163? who gives a flying F@$k if its bulky, its less than half price..

      • -1

people who use laptop for its portability maybe?

  • -1

Say no to Acer. These Acer computers are no good.

    • Any reason why

      • these might be okay, but their consumer grade laptops are pretty crummy (among other brands)

  • +2

i cant believe some people give others a chance look at these maggot's http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item…

    • +4

not wrong, I could have easily bought these & flipped them for a nice profit but rather posted it for someone that needs one.. instead likely went to someone that's going to sell it for a quick profit.. annoying but not much you can you do.. these types snap up most deals on OzB

      • +2

Next time do that I'd rather you make something than these greedy (profanity) you and a few other members do the hard work and post incredible deals that are unimaginable to me and there's genuine people out there that have probably been waiting for something even close to this to come along and they miss out because they couldn't drop everything and sit on here all day and night to get one that guy with the 391 score is on here I know it I hope he gets them both doa and struggles for refund because the first guy who bought 2 purchased before you posted when I seen your post 4 was available still now I regret not buying one just so he could have missed out anyway sorry for rant super pissed

        • i bet their ozbarginers too, keep an eye out for refurbished units going on ebay or gumtree, bastards buying in 2s

    • +1

People suck. I hope karma smacks them in the hip pocket

    • +1

I went to work, got home everything gone. Gonna cry myself to sleep now

  • Anyone know if Acer offers will keep 3 year warranty for manufacturer refurbished goods?

  • Being in the industry i know Grays online buys stuff which have been returned by the customer to the Manufacturer because of issues, in saying that 50% of the customer think software issues are hardware and hence the return. Customer gets a refund or swap and grays buy the returned stuff.

  • I notice the laptop gtx 1070 version has more cuda cores than desktop.
anyone know if the performance is better?

    • They're clocked lower. In general, I think they're anywhere up to 10% slower than the desktop variants. Could be a lot less, but shouldn't be too much slower. Pretty good, considering the form factor.

      • I saw cpuboss rate it better than desktop. More efficient too…

        • CPU boss isn't accurate in regards to actual performance. It only compares specs and picks a winner that way. A good comparison site (I beliveve) is notebookcheck.com. They review most laptops and they benchmark and rate all aspects of the laptops.

All in all, it comes down to cooling performance.

  • has anyone had confirmation of as order been accepted or shipped? I managed to grab the desktop, but no money has been drawn from my card linked to my paypal account .

    • Shipping confirmation this morning on my laptop :)
