I had been looking for a security cam for a while and after tossing up between Arlo Q and Nest Cam, I finally settled for Arlo Q because of their free 7 days cloud storage.

  • Yo OP, Harvey Norman has the Arlo Pro for $244 (after this coupon). An arguably better product.

Personally I still haven't decided which I like better, everyone has their preference.
The problem with the one you listed is that it wont work on it's own, you need a base station which isn't included the deal you linked.

    • Yo OP, Harvey Norman has the Arlo Pro

Thanks mate, unfortunately it doesn't meet my requirements. I needed a standalone camera with two way audio.

      • The arlo pro has 2 way audio - also, it is wireless meaning you can virtually use it anywhere indoor AND outdoor ….

        Need a base station though.

  • Couldn't see the info on the eBay site, but does this also hook into existing wireless ARLO station?

does this also hook into existing wireless ARLO station?

I don't think so, this is a standalone product and designed to work on its own.

  • speaking of which, has anyone managed to find nest cams outdoor model for cheaper?

  • Xiaomi Xiaofang 1080p camera is about $35 on ebay. It has cloud storage, but I haven't looked into how to enable it. It seems to have most of the same features as this for 1/7th of the price.

      It has cloud storage

I am just wary of Xiaomi cloud storage which might mean that someone in China might be looking at me :P

      • Most mfc have similar risk.

I managed to enable to the cloud storage however the big issue is if camera is stolen or disconnected from the network, you loose access to videos stored in the cloud. that is useless as you can't see latest recordings before camera got tampered.

  • I'm interested in IP cameras like this, but I really want local network storage and that only seems to be on super-expensive models.

    • but I really want local network storage

Please look for Arlo Q Plus which offers local storage functionality. It might little more expensive than this but not super-expensive.

      • Sorry, I mean local network storage as in transferring video to another machine over the network rather than storing it on a microsd card (because if the camera gets taken, that goes with it). Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Good price, but I really hate my Arlo Q. Never works properly…NEVER! And I guarantee you it has nothing to do with my network. Shame I didn't notice the issues so late.

    • oh, what's the issue? Lag between motion and recording?

      • YMMV but here are the problems I have:

Live View very rarely works (watching footage live) - black screen shows up or a static image
When Live View does work recordings are unwatchable due to weird glitches, and costly CVR (continuous recording) records it like this…$12 a month for nothing.
Using your mobile to speak through the device is absolutely useless, never, EVER works
Rest assured that none of the above have anything to do with my network or my upload speed
The forums are filled with the same issues as mentioned above.

When this thing had its moments and worked right I really liked it, but subsequent firmware updates have turned it into a pile of junk.

Agree - bought one - thanks OP
        (plus 3-5 day delivery)

  • I got my camera and now its up & running. It's looking good actually, the video is quite crisp especially with light. The best thing is that it is powered using USB cable instead of an AC power.

I wish that there was an ability to rotate the camera. I might use my existing IP camera's base (which can be rotated remotely) for that purpose.
