Cheapest vasectomy in Brisbane?

I already have three children and don't want any more. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap vasectomy? I don't have private health cover so I presume that I will just have to pay out of pocket.

I dont care who does it, preferably just something simple like a GP clinic. It has to be a doctor obviously, I don't want any DIY jobs.

Thanks.

You could get 2 free sample bricks from your local paver retailer, they don't have to be matching.

Simply hold breath and smash the said bricks together at high velocity.

    • +22

or one free brick sample and sit on a brick wall…….

      • +3

An Ozbargainer always gets as many free samples as possible….. In case you need to use it more than once.

        • +2

          yep - sorry, my bad

        • +2

You might want to open a shop after all

        • +2

@Jackson: Yes excellent idea, reuse, reuse recycle.

You sir are a true Ozbargainer.

    • +9

Your paver also has a large dog. Just drop your dacks and viciously dance the Haka infront of the dogs nose.

    • +10

There'll be no hospital then, I'll tell the children

    • +26

      that hurt to read

      :s

    • eBook? OzBargain style.

    • Yup, that's the cheapest!

    • The angle to do it with 2 bricks is pretty odd. I think it's fine to just simply get one brick, walk through the streets till you find an old table someone left lying around, and use that as your temporary surgery space.

    • Get a cherry bomb, put it in a can and count to 10

Go to your local GP and see what/who they can recommend?

    • +2

It is an operation that needs to be done by a urologist or sometimes general surgeon. Depending on where you live the waiting time can be up to 1 year as it is non urgent elective surgery

      • not sure why this is downvoted

        this is 100% correct

        • +5

Probably Legolas and his elf friends

    • Ridiculous idea.

    • Your GP will be able to send you to a urologist who trains interns. The urologist will probably sting you for a private consultation but they will organise the 'work experience kids' to do it under their supervision at the local hospital under medicare as part of their training. I have friends who have done this.

      • +1

this is BS. You can be referred to public hospital for free. Have surgery by done by urologist or trainee for free. Only problem is waiting time of many days in many hospitals these days.

  • +51

Maybe not go for cheapest when your balls are involved…. I agree asking your GP would be the best way to go.

  • +7

im sure there was a cheap knife deal on ozbargain a few days ago

The best option is to change your name and move to another state/country and start again. If another girl in your new state has the misfortune of falling pregnant three times, just repeat the cycle. No genuine Ozbargainer pays child support unnecessarily.

Put a couple dozen mobile phones in your pockets and call them all at once. That should do the trick

    • +45

Galaxy note 7 would be perfect for this.

      • +6

Goodness Gracious! Great Balls of Fire!

  • +4

I'll do it for free. I just got a new set of steak knives for Christmas.

    • +12

And you have Webber bbq ready too?

    • Did it come with an ab king pro?

  • +18

I'm a qualified doctor via an online course. If you fly me to Brissy I'll do it for free.

I'm actually situated here, and can help.

A large poster of Hillary Clinton might work.

    • +17
      • A cheap strategic tattoo of that would have anyone shooting blanks.

    • -5

A picture of Trump would be more effective, and it would work as a contraceptive for both males and females.

    • So you're saying hacking Hillary turns you on, lol?

How Un-Australian! Please support local product

      • I don't like it

  • +7

Not sure about Brisbane, but I checked around in Melbourne and I am going to go with the Dr Marie clinic
    https://www.drmarie.org.au/contraception/vasectomy

In Melbourne, they charge $660 after the Medicare rebate.
There seems to be other clinics in the outskirt of Melbourne, which seems to be cheaper, but they're a little too far away for me.

    • +12

Woohoo, a genuine reply. 660 doesnt seem too bad i will bear it in mind.

      • +11

You'll be baring more than that!

        • +1

          … And back to it!

      • +1

If its just cost then you may ask your partner to get a mirena which is an IUD that also takes away her periods so its good for her and is as effective as a vasectomy.
They are heavily subsidised at $38 and many GP's or family planning clinics will put them in for under $150 after medicare.

        • +1

Really? A small snip that is effective forever or this device that can fall out https://www.thewomens.org.au/health-information/contraceptio…

Be responsible and do what you've suggested - get the snip!

        • +1

@Apoca89: I was told by my doctor that an IUD would be more effective that either of us getting sterilised (but less effective that both of us). I never bothered to look up the stats, so I can't confirm, but that's what I was told.

    • Now the next question. Scalpel or not?

Dr Marie provides expert no-scalpel open-ended vasectomy in our New South Wales, Canberra and Brisbane clinics; no-scalpel close-ended vasectomy in Melbourne; while our Midland clinic in Western Australia offers both scalpel (incision) close-ended and open-ended vasectomy services.

      • Wonder how they open the end without a scalpel?

        • It's a little device that opens up about 1cm. I had it done at Dr Marie a few weeks ago. Didn't feel the anaesthetic needles, no pain at all during the procedure. About 660 sounds right. Did it so wife could get off the Mirena. Just be careful eith exertion for up to a month after; i developed 2 hematoma which were annoying but not a big deal.

It is not how much it hurts, it is where it hurts. My quack made me sign a 2 letters: One for the missus to consent and one for me to suffer a likely higher chance of prostate cancer at my choice. As a man you are born to suffer. Short of changing faith to them fastest growing ones there are I think 400 dating apps on android. Can anybody help me how many there are on ios?

  • +4

Well it's $750 at Sunshine Coast.

    http://drsnip.com.au/faq/how-much-does-it-cost/

And apparently you can get a $201 rebate from Medicare = $549. :O

    • +7

my vet desexed my dog for less then $200, no rebates though :)

      • +14

He probably wants to keep his testicles

  • +5

Try Family Planning Clinic in the Valley, that'll be definitely cheapest in Qld without private health but spots are limited so you may need to wait a bit.

If you have private health the day surgery at Gaythorne does $99 ones with private health.

    • Thank you, i will give them a call.

  • +6

hi, I was in the same boat - 3 kids = enough kids.

I went to this Dr in Aspley

can't remember the price exactly (maybe ~$350).

was sore for a couple of days after.

nothing that sitting on the couch and drinking beer in front of the TV for a few days didn't fix.

    • No regrets?

      • +70

Yeah, should have stopped at 2.

        • +2

well they do say, practice makes perfect, i guess it wasn't the case for you.

        • +30

On a slightly serious note. I am one of five kids and I lost my oldest brother in a motorbike accident when he was in his early forties and I was in my thirties. I was immensely grateful my parents had a few spare kids lying around. It was the fact I still had more siblings that made the pain bearable. When your parents are in too much pain for you to talk to them you need a brother or sister to support you.

        • +1

@try2bhelpful: I probably should mention that we have already been blessed with 3 delightful kids and by 'blessed' , I mean erm contraception fails. They are truly amazing though hence my (our?) reluctance to put a permanent stop to even the possibility of more unexpected surprises.

        • +1

@Batboy: Glad they aren't monsters :) My point is that 3 is better than 2 for the kids; there is still a sibling in a worse case scenario. I would hate to have been the only kid left.

The pill is pretty reliable, but you need to make sure the lady is taking it at the same time everyday and it can be a problem if she gets sick or takes antibiotics. Personally the added bonus was I could skip periods on a regular basis; FTW. The problem is you never know what the future is going to bring. My understanding is the vasectomy is more easily reversed than the tubal ligation as well.

        • @try2bhelpful: Thanks :)

    • Thanks so much.

    • +1

I agree, -3 kids is still too many.

    • Can you have another kid if you want to? Is it possible to de-vasectomy? or undo vasectomy I am not sure if that is the correct word. Thanks.

      • yeah, but it would be costly to do.

      • Reversing a scalpel free vasectomy is far more difficult and therefore costly. Ultimately, don't do it unless you're certain.

      • Yes, my Dad had a vasectomy after 2 kids, in his early 30s. Then my mum wanted changed her mind and decided she wanted another kid when she was 37, and he had it undone. Then after the resulting child, my younger brother, was born, my Dad went back to the doctor, and asked about getting a vasectomy done again. He was told they won't do it (i.e. you can't do, undo, then redo). This was ~20 years ago, so possible the rules have changed since… although I kind of agree with the principle that if you're asking for a 3rd op, to reverse a reversal of the original, then it's questionable whether you know what you want.

        • Thanks for the heads up.

  • -2

Try Gossypol (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gossypol) a.k.a cotton seed oil

  • +4

I have a bike seat with a sharp edge that you can borrow. Ride over a bump and bobs your uncle.

    • +9

Although there's a chance that the OP will become his nephew's aunt that way. :)

      • +5

There are 3 settings. Vasectomy, eunuch, or ladyboy. Obviously one needs to control the velocity on approach to the bump.

  • so many funny comments… but a few good ones that might be helpful…

  • +3

I suggest a trip to Thailand - quite a popular medical tourism destination.

Just make sure they don't cut it off (that's also a popular procedure with lady boys there).

    • +1

Thank goodness tattoos are cheap there, too. Just tat the penis with DO NOT CUT HERE first, then an X on the incision point.

    • I second this on a third party basis. Went to a Thailand hospital for an elective many years back and saw a Caucasian man getting a vasectomy. Very professional, similar to what you would get if you went to a hospital here, the surgeons in Thailand are often trained in America and are very qualified (I've incidentally also done a research project on vasectomy and can tell you it's a simple procedure).

    • Pretty sure that would end up costing 3 times as much

      • Just need to plan it around a family holiday or 'business trip'

  • +7

    Bikies.

  • What you have to pay that much! I was thinking getting done, but geeez…

I haven't inquired but someone told me if u have no kids and under a certain age have to go see a shrink 2 times as well
    . Havent verified myself

    Anyone had done in thailand?

  • +1

I had three kids - that did it for me.

  • +9

Do you know what your Medicare Safety Net is?
We always knew after 2 kids that we were done, and hubby offered to get the snip. We waited until we had a year that we went over the Medicare Safety Net (was probably 1 or 2 years after). Instead of being out of pocket $600, it was only $100. Could be worth thinking about.

  • +2

I paid $700 less rebate at Dr Snip in Melbourne, don't know why they would give a consent form for you wife, women don't need a concent form from there husbands when they get an IUD or the pill. They asked me why. I said I already had 2 kids. No more questions. Was pretty quick, drove myself home, was at work the next day. Had sex a few times the next night. In fact they recommend you clear out the old tadpoles regularly before you submit your sample for testing.

  • +3

This, along with dentistry; I'm shocked that people are trying to find deals. Do you really want to go to the cheapest place?

    • Do you really want to go to the cheapest place?

Yup - it's like self-harm (by proxy) … some people get off on it.

    • Its a vasectomy how hard can it be? He just has to cut the frigging tube.

      • +2

        Knife versus spoon…

      • He just has to cut the frigging tube

Ummm, there's two tubes, one on each side.

      • It's surgery. It can go wrong. Badly. Have you never heard a medical horror story from a friend or relative?

  • +1

I'm actually surprised there aren't any groupon/scoopons for procedures like this … only a matter of time, given the number of dental/cosmetic procedure deals out there.

  • +1

Dr Snip seems to be massively overpriced. Looking at his own description it's a 15min procedure under local anesthetic. His only qualification is a GP.

The medicare rebate is $201 for the procedure and the doctor can bill medicare for an prolonged consult on top of this (another $105) … which seems like a decent amount to cover the procedure. Heck, my Denist will remove a wisdom tooth for less than that.

Just google bulking billing GP practices and ask the receptionist if they have a doctor who can do the procedure … should be able to find someone that will do it, without a gap payment.

  • -4

I will do it for a six pack of beer, you want find much cheaper else where. Try a go fund me page there probably other people out there who also don't want you breeding any-more that might take some of the cost or maybe insult a bull dyke and get kicked really hard in the nuts.
