      Read the rules.

    • +1

Yeah, what would OP know about posting rules. :p

Taken from someone that has lodged 1 sub-par deal in 5 years 🤔

      • So explain what was "sub-par" about it ?

  • +2

Pretty good device look up apps like side loader and set orientation for those non android TV apps.

  • +1

Great deal… However if you take into account the CashRewards cashback then this deal would work out cheaper: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/303114

You get 9% cashback with Lightinthebox.

    • +1

Ah yes fair point, works out a few dollars cheaper via LITB due to much higher cashback. That deal might be a better option for some.

      • Yep, was for me, I don't do cashback. Thanks.

    • +2

May want to do some research on LITB. They have quite a bad rep on here

    • If they ever arrive from LITB!

      • Read the last few comments on that page, people have received their Mi Boxes in 4 weeks.

        • Good to see they have finally arrived for someone, but I'm still waiting.

        • +2

          @OZB Al:
          Same.

Shame the delivery is delayed, unlike the hourly SPAM.

        • It was waiting for me when I got home. In the end the final delivery time wasn't too bad, but communication was appalling.

  • Perhaps a silly question but does it make any difference what power plug you select on the item page? Also, is it was worth paying for expedited shipping/insurance?

    • +3

It does not matter what plug type you order because you will end up using an AU plug adapater anyway and most of these companies normally include that adapater in the package.

I have never paid for the insurance myself, I don't think it's worth anyway. With the normal shipping it may take upto 4 weeks, if you want to get it a bit earlier, order from these guys on Aliexpress:

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Mi-Box…

It's a reliable seller, they use Singapore post and it arrives in Australia within 2 weeks.

      • +1

Thanks batrarobin. I figured most people would replace the adaptor using an AU plug. It looks like it just takes standard 5V DC so now will need to try and track one down. A USB adaptor with an ethernet port is next on the shopping list for this device.

    • +1

is it worth paying for expedited shipping

Expedited shipping doesn't mean express shipping like we have here and at AU $7.19 it isn't cheap for a $74 item. It says 3-10 business days after dispatch (Dispatch: Ships between May 22 - Jun 3) which means you could still be waiting up to 3 or 4 weeks anyway. I don't know about GB but I know users say that LITB fast shipping isn't really that fast and generally a waste of money.

      • Thanks hamza23. I decided to spend spend the extra for the faster shipping. I wasn't quiet sure at the time of asking but believe some things have taken longer then 4 weeks when I've ordered from Gearbest in the past. I just wasn't prepared to do the same for this box as it's something I been intending to buy.

I placed an order a few days ago for some cheap game controllers using standard shipping so will have a good comparison to see how long they take to arrive compared to this box.

        • Yeah it can easily take longer than 4 weeks with normal shipping, especially when you are buying $0.10/$1 items which seem to have lower priority shipping. My last GB purchase was $0.10 adapter which took 1.5 months, yeah something more expensive/important like this I understand wanting it sooner.

Let us know how you go, will be interesting to see how long it takes.

        • +1

          @hamza23:

It arrived mid last week - so just under 2 weeks. Happy with the box so far except for the included power adaptor and lack of compatible Google TV apps.

    • +1

From my experience with Gearbest's expedited shipping… go for it. I've had my orders arrive in 1-2 weeks which is a lot better than the month you'd normally wait.

      • Just need to keep in mind that this item won't be dispatched for 3-14 days according to description in this case.

    • Not available for this item, but I usually use Priority Line from Gearbest as it's usually fairly cheap and arrives in less than 2 weeks. Also tracked all the way to my door.

    Some random Mi Box info:

    • Any idea how to use the remote to bring up the context/information menus on kodi?

Also - any way of controlling kodi or the mibox itself via your phone like you can with a pi?

      • +1

Any idea how to use the remote to bring up the context/information menus on kodi?

Long press middle button from memory

Also - any way of controlling kodi or the mibox itself via your phone like you can with a pi?

        Yep - Android TV app

    • Any chance you can confirm there is catch up apps for all the channels? (Same as the Sony TV's?)

I read one review that suggested they don't exist (other than SBS and ABC?)

I've got a Sony TV and want to replicate the experience on the other TV in the house.

      Thanks

  • Another silly question, i tried searching information up and down on google about all these tvbox, but still not much of chance of getting the info i want.
So the question is will all these tv box able to stream any asian tv channel? such as Hong Kong or Taiwan… anyone here have experience with these tv boxes??

    • These boxes are capable of doing that but it doesn't come pre-configured. Generally you would install an Add-on on KODI app that provides Asian content but bear in mind these add-ons are not very reliable or properly managed and stop working quite often.

Don't buy this box in a hope that you would get Asian content staight away, you have to do a lot of searching, set it up to get it working.

  • Can someone tell me if this is the 3, 3c or 3s model?
    So confusing…

  • Can this play everything WDTV play?

  • +1

How come this version doesn't have the voice command on the remote control?

    • +1

That seller is a suspect. All his product prices are very very low. See this Xiaomi power bank. Please buy and see how you go. Buy > Dispute > Paypal > Wait 3 months > If lucky refund

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10000mAh-Xiaomi-Mi-Power-Bank-2-Q…

    • Thanks for pointing that out. According to the description it "supports Bluetooth voice remote control" so perhaps an old stock image?

  • That's a great price! I got mine for $77 from Banggood but came down to $74 after cash rewards. So tempted to get another one but best hold off for now.

  • +2

Good to see I'm getting credit for my description :P They're always ending up on heaps of deals.

  • Do they have some kind of channel store where I can choose what channels I want to see or install them to my box ? Sorry , dumb question..

  • +1

    Is DHL shipping worth it?

  • Would USB 2 (if that's correct) have a high enough data rate for 4K content?

    • Yep, up to 480mbps

  • Can i get this price by paying through paypal but with 28 degree card linked to it or i have to pay directly with the credit card…just want to confirm as never bought anything from chinese seller without using paypal.

    • +1

Yes pay directly through PayPal with your 28 degrees card linked, just ensure in your settings that the billed currency on your 28 degrees card is USD, otherwise PayPal will convert it to AUD at a bad rate at time of payment.

      Edit: Instructions here

    • of course you can, just make sure that you use the card's conversion rate and not paypal.

  • I've got one of these but my kodi seems choppy (enough to notice at least anyway). Anyone else find the same?

    • +1

wifi connection might not be stable at your place.

    • What kind of choppy?

Do you end up with Kodi buffering now and then, or, is it a fairly constant slight choppiness?

Don't forget if you are playing a video that is a different FPS than your TV's refresh rate (mismatch), you will inevitably see some chop.

You have the option to configure Kodi to alter the refresh rate of your TV to match the video refresh rate which will give you 100% perfect "fluidity" without any chop.

      • Maybe has to do with the FPS…

It's not a buffer chop, it's just the video doesn't seem 'fluid' as you put it. How do you configure? I've just about googled everything with no success…

      • You have the option to configure Kodi to alter the refresh rate of your TV to match the video refresh rate which will give you 100% perfect "fluidity" without any chop.

The Mi Box will not do that. You need to alter the refresh rate in the android settings manually.
Most people don't notice the difference, especially if you don't point it out :)

  • +2

Watch Lon Seidman's review on YouTube for a good idea of what this is. doesn't run 4K content that great.

Bear in mind that the processor combo is actually weaker than the outgoing Nexus Player (which won't do 4K anyway cos it's not enabled).

That being said, a lot of manufacturers are putting crappy processors in their TV's, Sony is an example with their Mediatek ones that are even worse than what is in this Mi Box.

    • +1

It's marketed as 4K but it's really really struggle doing 4K resolution, so have to shift it down to lower res.

      • 4k at what bitrate and what codec?

        4k is not just 4k.

  • If you're buying this specifically for Netflix, buy a Chromecast Ultra, the HDCP handshaking is super flaky on multiple boxes I've used.

  • +2

Hi,trying to buy but i keeps saying code expired?

    • +1

Try to tell yourself it's not.

  • you can pay in AUD on Gearbest to make it AU $74.60 (if you don't have int'l fee free card like 28 degrees).

Just be aware that even if you pay in AUD at Gearbest, unless your credit card is completely fee free for international transactions you may still get hit with a fee (usually 3%) as the merchant is overseas.

    • Even though PayPal (AU) is the merchant? I haven't had any fee on my cards which charge for international transaction.

      • Yeah it's hit and miss with PayPal. I've been charged at Banggood before when paying AUD via PayPal.

Most of my eBay purchases from China paid in AUD are ok but I have seen the odd one get charged.

        • I see, I've been paying in AUD on rewards card rather than USD on non rewards card (28 degrees) in these situations where the difference is so small, so far so good as mentioned but I'll keep an eye out incase thanks.

  • When I go to the deal The US price is $68.99 then when I add the coupon it Jumps to $84.53 can any one help please?

    • It expired about 15 minutes ago sorry, all 100 sold out I guess.

      • Bugger Thanks for your reply

  • How much better are these compared to an MXQ amlogic S805?

The one I have is ok, but would defo retire it to a second TV if there is a performance boost from a newer version.

My main gripes are the response of the remote and the speed through menus

    • How much better are these compared to an MXQ amlogic S805?

Better at what? They do HD Netflix and Youtube. Google the difference between Android, and Android-TV.
For Kodi only, just spend $40 to replace your MXQ with the new model S905.

      • any S905 model in particular?

        • Not really.
Just looks for whats currently available and cheap, and google for any warnings.

Its a lucky dip. I ordered a S905, but got an S905X. No matter, once I figured it out.

  • Couple of downsides, no Ethernet port, you gotta go wifi or use a USB dongle. Sadly the 2 USB dongles I had lying around don't work on it. No auto refresh rate switching, all 24hz content stutters like crazy at 60hz. You can manually set the system for 24hz but then you won't get great results with 30hz content or other apps.

Also have an AppleTv4. It seems to have some tech that can comfortably play 24hz at 30 smoothly so it is my go to plex box easily.

  • How does it compare with RPi3 model b in doing the job as a media player?

    • xiaomi is a pleasure to use out of the box. rpi3b can be a struggle to get right in tweaks/updates (not to mention additional decoding licenses)… had a few movies that just stuttered and struggled with rpi3b.

  • Not very happy with mine, running Exodus on Kodi and TV shows don't load anymore. Worked for a few weeks, now useless. Did all the updates, still no good?

    • Kodi seems to be getting worse IMO, or exodous I guess, quality of links and frequency of failed links

    • I think a lot of streaming sites in Europe are being shut down.
