Madness. This is like one of the student deals we got back in Uni!

      • +3

Am I detecting a hint of sarcasm there mate? Sorry! I'm new to this and I can't handle the savings on here! They're mind blowing! Just hope they work as well as they're advertised!

  • +2

Easy to cancel after 3 months?

    • +2

      Easy peasy!

    • +8

      But you won't want to!

      Well I didn't at least….

      • haha i agree…streaming quality shits all over Apple Music…i started on Apple Music and moved to Spotify early last year, could not be happier.

        • +4

I tried them all out a year or so ago, I decided to go with Spotify. Deezer was my second preference but for some reason it doesn't have the radiohead catalogue, decision made!

        • +1

          @thisispants: Deezer now has Radiohead.

        • @StevePER:

          Late to the party! (Deezer)

        • +1

Haha yep! I used to buy all my music at like $2 a song, Spotify is saving me a tonne of money

      • +4

the thing with that is, the free version offers so much for nothing. yeah the premium is better. but look at netflix, you dont get a free version of netflix with ads, which is why nobody cares about paying for netflix.

also if they actually had an education discount like they do in the US, i would buy it. but right now its too expensive compared to the free version. (unless you absolutely need the mobile streaming which i dont)

        • +7

They do, student premium is 5.99/month

        • @Hyena: ah finally. i looked about 6 months ago and there was no AU student discount.

        • +1

          @xEnt: a family plan is where it's at, $17.99/month for 6 users. So you're paying $3 a month :)

        • +5

@justcallmeboss: where do i get 5 friends though

        • @didntknowicould: haha sorry, I can't help you with that part!

        • @justcallmeboss:

and when my girls grow up i will get that!

  • +1

Question - Can you play the downloaded music once your premium account has expired?

If not, how do they block those songs from playing?

    • +1

Coz the songs are encrypted. The app decrypts them to play. When your subscription ends the app will continue to work for one month, then it's all over!

      • +8

        red rover !

        • +13

          Lemon squeezy

    • You can continue listening to your downloaded/liked songs from the Spotify app once your premium expires. The difference is you have a limited amount of times you can skip songs per day and plenty of ads.

      • Generally two 30 second ads after 2-3 songs.
Make it seems like the radio after a while, except the ads are always louder than the music.

    • You can access your playlists but they won't be saved for offline streaming. You will only be able to listen over wifi or data plan.

  • +14

Note: you can cancel the subscription immediately and still get 3 months use.
No worries about forgetting to cancel.

The only problem is you need a new payment method you have not used with a spotify promo before.
And after doing this every 3 months, I'm running low on credit card numbers. Might have to start creating new paypal accounts soon.

    • new payment method

Do you need a new account/email/IP-address too?

      • +3

I always just use my disposable gmail account and just put an extra . in the email.
        Eg Pyongyang@gmail to Pyong.yang@gmail
        It still works.

      • +1

You will also need a new email apart from the payment method to sign up
Use the Gmail email trick and that'll work :)

        • +1

I too used disposable email and new CC. Easy.

        • @Xiongmao: How many 'new' credit cards do you get … they aren't as easy to get as a disposable email …

        • @51ngh: You can always conveniently "lose" the card…

        • @51ngh:

How many 'new' credit cards do you get

One actual credit card, the rest are debit cards - on savings accounts, qantas freq-fly card, prepaid Coles card, …

        • +2

@Dumax: the dedication some people have to saving money is amazing!

        • @51ngh: Plus additional cardholders for the AMEX etc…

    • Call up your bank for a 'lost card'.

Or make several purchases in several different countries at the same time. That should trigger the algorithm to appear as your card details are stolen, and the bank will provide you with a free new number :D

      • Learn new tricks every day !

      • Easy! Step 1. Be in multiple countries at the same time.
I guess maybe somewhere on europe on a 3 point borderline? There would have to be a kiosk/shop near by in each country, and need to have paywave so I can swipe all 3 at once.

I guess worse comes to worse, I could just mail 3 credit cards to random addresses and ask them to buy something at a precise time. What could go wrong?

    • +1

      Ta !
      Joined and cancelled immediately.

For those who paid using Paypal, it is also worthwhile going into your Paypal account and cancelling the recurring payment to Spotify.

      • Good tip re: Paypal recurring payment - thanks!

    • how u cancel it?

      Spotify Free
Play music in shuffle mode only, with ads.
Switching to Free will cancel your Premium subscription.
      CANCEL PREMIUM

  • Does it stack with Optus Perks deal? ie 6 months of premium for $0.99? If so which should you activate first? Optus then $0.99 or $0.99 then Optus?

    Thanks

    • +1

Both deals are for those who haven't tried premium yet, so you'll probably have to pick one or the other

  • I never could get Optus Perks to work. I would registered the perks and no voucher/links were ever sent to me and it keeps just telling me that I've already registered if I click it again.

    This comes in handy

    • +3

      Handy-pandy!

(That's not a thing I just wanted to be part of the 'lemon-squeezy' and 'red rover' club)

    • I have this same problem with Optus Perks too, it's very broken, at least for some set of customers.

I even called them to get help reset my account. It is stuck in a loop of trying to register/confirm registration.

  • +1

    Hail to the king baby!

  • +1

Can we use this and then continue after 3 months on a student subscription?

  • I wonder how many people will be looking to expand their family in 3 months :P

  • What would stop me from opening an account with Spotify?

    • +10

      Asteroid impact

      • +4

Big enough solar flare may cause an EMP, that'll do it too.

        • +1

Gamma Ray Burst. That shit will interrupt the hell out of a Miley Cyrus listening session.

    • Not having $0.99 to pay

      • Could still open a free account though.

  • +1

    I like my Apple Music.

  • +3

Just a heads-up for anyone who is not aware already: if you consider yourself a serious music listener, Spotify will frustrate you big time after you have decided to make it you default music manager and spent huge time/effort setting up your own library, playlists, favourites etc. Inevitably in the middle of building your music library, you will be bitten by that stupid 10,000 song limit.

From my extensive research on the internet forums, I get the impression that Spotify has not intention to fix it just for the smaller group of listeners who have a broader interest in music genres. So if you consider yourself one of the 1%, look elsewhere.

    • +1

I use google play music where I can have 50,000 songs for the free version

      • +1

Google is indeed generous. I'm a classical music/progressive rock fan so shuffle play makes no sense to me. I always listen to the whole album altogether in its original track order. Google actually allows me to upload the whole album as one lossless flac track as long as it's no larger than 300MB.

    • +1

I'm a beta tester and I can definitely tell you they have been trialling a rework of the Your Library system. Sadly, I don't know if it's actually going anywhere though nor if it will go ahead for a full public rollout, the initial test was just to gather feedback and only ran for a limited time.

The limit is frustrating and Spotify definitely did seem to neglect it for quite a while, but they are definitely working on something to replace it.

  • Done this twice before but its so cheap its worth doing again..

Only wish I didnt lose my play list :(

    • +10

subscribe to your other account's playlist and make it collaborative

  • +2

Would have loved one of these perks for loyalty.

Looks like my wife is singing up and i'm leaving.

    Thanks OP

  • Who is the boy in the thumbnail?

    • It's a boy?

      edit: I meant it as a question, I don't think its a boy…

  • How does everyone transfer their existing playlists? To the new account?
I've only ever had one account, just created second for this offer.

  • Tried signing up using PayPal on mobile and the form just loops while getting paypal authorisation.

    • Same thing happened.

Pay by card instead and it will work.

      • Yeah I used mine and the app is still terrible from last time I did this. No self contained EQ (uses ROM EQ if you have one), doesn't run as a proper service even though it has a notification and stupid things like not being able to clear the queue. Also a note to desktop users that it churns through disk reads and writes for no apparent reason.

  • +1 for Spotify over Google Play music.

Gplay hides all your playlists when your subscriptions ends.

That was the clincher for me.

  • +1

It's offering 3 months for $11.99 for people who have tried Premium before - probably have to have cancelled the previous Premium subscription some time ago to be eligible?

Maybe update title + description as FYI for others.

  • +1

Thanks for the deal. Just set up a new account.

For those who want to transfer their playlist over here's how to do it - just worked for me :)
