errm. no offense, but my curiosity begs me to ask do you read before purchasing and clicking buy now? The price was $269 less $70 cashback which makes it $199. Or were you so blinded by apple love that the thought of owning a shiny new ipod touch at anything below retail was just emotionally overwhelming :)

i though i already repented with above comment? obviously the apple fan boys got offended, but guess what? Im one of you! this is being typed from an MBP while listening to 2dayFM stream on the iphone with family photos on slideshow on the docked ipad (no it wont be stolen from work, 3 levels of security to get into the building and they're given to us from work so all here have one.)

Don't worry too much, the price will drop very quickly, they always do…early adopters of anything new always pay the penalty; this would have just been a great way to mitigate that early loss! ;)
Have you ever seen the price of an ipods drop much before the next one comes out? i.e. about six months later. For apple products the risk if you get something which has design defects, not that the price would drop after you buy it
True, you've also outlined some of the other deficits of being an early adopter!
Think of it this way, if someone can offer them at this price now; there must be some room to move! They'll drop, mark my words, especially when the 32 & 64 come out! ;)

Last time I receive $50 from paypal, by purchasing something on some website. Actually I canceled that order, and didn't pay anything. So I don't think that $70 is from the margin.

Judging by the number of "+" between 14-17 by the time it was out of stock, I would say there weren't many to begin with. So don't feel too bad the chances would have been slim either way.
I started my order at 12.07pm and as opposed to the usual COTD malarkey the site was stable and speedy enough. Had time to call the missus and convince her on it's merits as a replacement for our ageing sony handicam. Order was processed at 12.13pm.
I just the email…4.45 hours after it sold out!
I love it how it now says "save $20" yet it costs $19.95 for shipping. So really it's a 5 cent saving. lol.
