Don't think I've seen them this cheap. Seems like a decent deal. Just posting quickly before I fall asleep, sorry if I missed something.
Prob one of the better VDSL/NBN routers at a decent price. From my research anyway.

Edit: I just realized I forgot CashRewards as well, so would take about another $4 off if you activate I think.

    Tempted to get this but there was a better deal last time and I'll feel bad if I buy this :(

    • What was the better deal last time?

        Slightly cheaper and free 64GB USB 3.0.

        • Thanks. I'm thinking of getting this for my mother. She has fibre to the node and her old router won't work with nbn. The router iiNet gave her has terrible wifi.

          @Expon: Buy the R7000 instead unless you want an ADSL modem for more money.

          Good price is ~170.

          The Asus RT-AC68U is exactly the same hardware with different software. Both look hideous but the Asus is less offensive as far as case design.

          @Expon:
          If you want the best possible WiFi turn off the WiFi in the iiNET unit and get a Unifi AC access point, then mount it in a sensible place.

          Moving from an all in one to a quality dedicated AP has netted the best wifi improvement i've seen.

          If possible put in ceiling space near centre of house favouring wifi usage areas.

          May or may not suit you particular circumstances (separate devices, cable clutter etc), but there is no better solution than taking WiFi seriously and setting up a quality AP in a well selected location (ie, not where the phone point happens to be).

          The AP in questions are around $110 - $140, and fare well against much higher priced commercial models.

          Easily had for under $150 delivered.

          @Diji1:
          It also supports VDSL (FTTN) with built in modem, good for people who don't want teo separate devices. Well worth the little extra in my opinion.

        • @Diji1: I was looking at the Netgear website and it said D7000 is needed for fttn. R7000:is good for fttp/ftth.

          She plugs the router into the old copper lines.

        • @virtual81: does this work any better than a separate router doing the wifi in bridge mode? Also can multiple wifi access points be chained off this unit? Our house is double brick and wifi on the balcony is questionable at times.

  • yep don't forget that extra $4, as you know people hear will absolutely hammer you with negative feed back

      I hear that about here.

        Only if people hereabouts let them hear about the $4

  • Great modem router, I'm running it at home for Optus FTTN… just don't expect too much from their (netgear) call centres when you have any issues…

    Had to do troubleshooting steps three times… Once before I called, second with the operator and third with the same operator… He finally gave me a RMA number after spending an hour on the phone with him. Also, I'm pretty sure the guy didn't know what he was talking about, you get tech support for 6 months but I have a 2 year replacement, yet he was saying he was providing me with free tech support before he can replace the machine.

  • I am convinced even our grandchildren will be buying this router for the same amount of money. Been around forever and the price hardly moving.

  • Is it worth paying this much for a router?
    3 years ago I paid $29 for a N900 - (dual band 300+150?) plus gigabit ether. But now it is playing up.
    AC will work better from the back yard than N? Speed difference is a bit pointless for 6Mb ADSL or LAN video streaming.

    What does this do over a $100 TP-link AC modem/router?

    • More powerful CPU etc will have less bottle necks for large amounts of data flow. But for users with minimal devices and lower bandwidth needs, you may not notice any difference. If you're not having issues, no need to fix, if you are having issues with speeds slowing down etc with many users, a faster device could help.
      I'm a big fan of TP-Link devices as well, good value for money.
