I feel for those who dnot know about ebay and buy things from harvey Normans

    • +18

and buy from Harvey Normans without AMEX

    • -1

They buy things from Hardly Normal instead

    • +25

At least Harveys does not jack up RRP prices by 20% before a "sale" happens. LOL

      • +2

You don't know what's the RPP mean. Harveys is always selling at RRP or even HIGHER than RRP, which is much more than street price that the others selling at.

        • Source? :)

        • +6

          @bchliu: LIFE

        • -1

True RRP comes from the distributor/manufacturer, most retail stores will sell an item for under this price.
Generally a condition of sale to the store is that they will not sell an item ABOVE RRP, but are free to sell it for any price under that.

        • -2

@The Informer: Your LIFE traumas are too deep to help. Sorry..

        • +1

@manshrew: >Generally a condition of sale to the store is that they will not sell an item ABOVE RRP

That applies to hardly any products at all.

The RRP is a tool to manipulate customers sense of value in favour of the seller, it has nothing to do with "true" value of the product. It is only a tool for manipulation of value via the anchoring effect.

        • @bchliu:

Source: Quick search on internet in real LIFE.

        • +1

@virhlpool: Show me where Harveys actually sells higher than the RRP? I can almost guarantee you that this never happens unless in genuine error. It is actually their business model to sell at RRP, then for customers to go in and bargain them down with competition prices.

        • @manshrew: It would be an anti competitor behavior for manufacturers to dictate the selling price in any store whether it is above OR below their RECOMMENDED retail price.
          ACCC can punish those manufacturers.

        • -1

@berry580: Manufacturers/Distributors can absolutely set policies on product pricing. If they are a premium brand and get sold below a certain price it can damage the brand, or at least that's how they position it. Likewise they sometimes don't want to create unnecessary competition among stores selling their products as it gouges profits. There is no ACCC punishment for setting pricing policies on your products.

        • +2

@useruser: You are wrong. It's clearly stated on the ACCC Website: Imposing minimum resale prices

A supplier may recommend that resellers charge an appropriate price for particular goods or services but may not stop resellers charging or advertising below that price.

        • @trongy: Ok fair enough, I stand corrected.

    • -5

I feel sorry for people who buy tech on eBay :)

Dedicated Computer Stores are overwhelmingly better.

      • +1

that's a very general opinion. Built my pc via PCcasegear and Ebay sales for fairly cheap.

      • nah man, most components on eBay are much more cheaper…well, at least I think.

        • +12

Apart from the odd dollar less in an eBay 20% off I've found MSY reguarly noticeably cheaper. Plus the added benefit of picking up immediately without any more risk.

Cheapest 1080ti on ebay is $50 more for instance, and MSY's isn't even a Founders Edition either.

        • @scuderiarmani: Yep, ebay is an expensive place for PC components, apart from the lucky 20% off which may put you 10% ahead.

        • @Major Mess:
The irony, one comment of mine is heavily down voted, the next up voted.

Desirable components are in my experience always terribly priced. Great place to sell old shit though…

    • What's a dnot? Is it like a donut but with no u and the o switched around?

  • +1

    dell again..lol

    • +3

      Yeah I haven't seen a Good Guys 20% eBay sale in a while :(

      • There was 20% off in late March. I know because I bought a clothes dryer from them. Ended up getting upgraded for free to a dryer worth $500 more. But that's another story.

    • +18

I am not sure if TGG will still participate in these ebay sales. I hope they do, but things seem to have changed since they got bought over by JBhifi.

    • +10

TGG is owned by JB now. Good luck if they would even give you 10% off.

      • +8

To be fair, JB is still better than HN? :)

  • +4

Is this just an extension from ctek20%, seeing all the same supplier's.

  • What do we know about shopmonk?

    • +3

they have not sold a single item before

    • They are a bit overpriced even after discount!

      • +13

        $539 for Bose QC35 pre-discount. Ha.

        • +3

For reference, full retail price is $499.

        • +2

I get $549 from this link
But when you click on the item it shows $495.
          Obviously a shonky outfit

They changed it, just as I posted…..

        • @KentT:

Maybe they provide astranomically good service for that high price!!

        • @blibster: $495-20%= $396 decent price considering bose has international warranty.

        • +1

          @gjHarley: They have the QC25 for $339-20% = $271.20 Pretty good deal.

      • iPads about $5 cheaper than RRP AFTER discount…

  • +2

My friend just bought a geforce 1080 from futu, apparently they dropshipped from shopping express! =P

    • +13

From all reports on ozbargain they're the same company

      • -2

        Who are owned by Zapals

        • source regarding the zapals connection?

        • +1

          @furythree:
          http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/about.php

"A division of Zapals Tech Corporation Pty Ltd (ABN: 50 617 844 149)"

        • +3

@nereus: thats shoppingsquare not shopping express

shoppingsquare has always been a hong kong owned semi drop shipping company
They started off as Apus and the variations of that name
          then grew and grew

        • @furythree:
          Oh my bad, misread
          Apologies everyone

        • @nereus: I don't think Zapals is the same as Zapal's Tech Corporation. Also the latter appears to have been registered with ASIC less than 3 months ago.

      • +5

I've never had an issue with either.

For those confused, Shopping square is the one to be weary of.

      • Oh. That explains a lot! Haha thanks for the clarification =)

    • You don't understand what dropshipping involves.

      • I'm pretty sure I do. The order was shipped directly from the supplier to the customer, not stocked by the vendor themselves.

  • +4
    • Yep as usual that's F*****

On the plus side there are far better monitors being released this year which I am awaiting

    • Still cheaper than buying it elsewhere… lowest I'm seeing on static ice is $1,375 without shipping, compared to $1,280 shipped from Futu through your link.

  • +30

LOL Iphone 7 128 from shopmonk $1399 … thats 170 more than Apples website … with 20% off its 1120 still that's a bit of high listing price loll

    • +1

yeah i wonder what their excuse is for listing it above RRP

      • +7

look im sure there are deals out there and got a bit annoyed with the listing prices .. so my negs a bit of a over-reaction.. but i dont know how you can justify 10-12% listing price which is higher than RRP .. makes no sense… i dont even know who this seller is.. is this grey stock? sent from where? no details on the listing or anything

        • +1

i shouldve clarified. i 100% agree with you

          see below comments

indian company, shipping grey imports from singapore, selling at above australian RRP

          what a joke

      • So you end up paying the same anyway.

  • +3

Is it worth asking if there is a good price on a 4k IPS monitor. Ideally I would like larger than 28"

    • Get a kogan monitor for 500 (it was when it was on presale). But yeh. it's 4k, 1.5ms and now is 600. but it was 500.

  • No cheap QC35s :( I'll forever be hunting that VideoPro deal.

    • I got mine from them during the floods for 334!!!

    • They come up every couple of months. Won't be waiting long for the next deal.

  • +47

I miss the days when 20% off actually meant something

    • +6

Ozbargainer for 6 years. Story checks out.

  • +21

Why do these deals even get posted anymore, all the retails just up their prices for the sales, its pointless.

    • +2

Honestly, I agree. I mainly posted it for the Dell sale as it seems to be fairly popular. Figured I'd put the other two in the title since they were included :)

  • +9

    Price inflation imminent?

    • +9

      More like pre-emptive increases.

  • Will I be able to get powerbuy discount on dell from ebay? Bring the cheap xps15 down to $1400 with cr and the discount

  • +5

Umbrella deal again, forecasting 400+ upvotes and not a single bargain.

  • Wow they do really hike up the prices, still have the Samsung S7 for $750+ only gets it down to $600. Not sure about Shopmonk as a seller either

  • +20

These jacked up 'sales' are highly illegal under consumer law.

    • +14

Yet no one does anything about it. We should really unite as consumers, provide evidence and complain to the ACCC.

      • +9

We're great at saying it should happen.

        • +1

FWIW I actually did report a few of them over the past year or so, maybe a few more would help. We need price history evidence though.

        • +2

@xrailgun: can't you use the sold history as an evidence

    • -3

No they're not. You don't have to use the coupon.

  • -3

    Here we go again!

  • +48

Samsung Galaxy S8 for $1,369 is $170 higher than full RRP.

    • +3

      This made my day haha

  • +7

I spotted shopmonk the other day.
They claimed to be an Ebay Preferred Seller or something stupid on their listings. I note that this has now been removed.
The about us etc doesnt work on their listings and they now state Singapore as their location.

    Example price: Bose QC35: $549.
RRP at Bose AU with AU warranty: $499

The inflated prices remain the same…The only new thing about this 20% offer is the seller..

  • +22

And the s8+ at $1549, which is $200 more than RRP. Disappointing really.

    • Wow.

I'd heard of grey imports being priced at AU RRP for these deals, but AU stock priced above RRP? That's a neg from me. And it's coming from Singapore too.

  • Shopmonk. Never heard of them before. Probably because they are new. All there items are shipped from Singapore. I'm guessing this mean non AU grey import model, no local warranty and must be shipped back to Singapore for warranty?

Agree about there overpriced items. Even with 20% discount. EG Bose Soundlink Mini 2 $329. Bose AU $249.

Also selling Blackberry. Does anybody actually buy those phones these days?

  • +13

Shopmonk seems very dodgy, they claim that they ship from singapore but they're actually an indian company registered in Dehli under a different name. I couldn't imagine the issues buyers will have if they try to claim warranty.

On their official website they list the iPhone 7 Plus 256gb for $1560 but on eBay it's $1729 before the discount. I'd stay away from them at all costs.

    • +13

I wouldn't even touch the bargepole

  • +6

The few Futu prices I looked at look fine.

Unfortunatley I bought an SSD on Sunday from them with a 5% off code. It's the same price today with 20% off!

    • +1

futu were in the last 20% off deal.
