    Tiger Rice Cooker

Where can I buy Tiger Rice?

    • +6

      At your local wild-rice reserve

    • +6

      In the tiger woods?

    • +3
      • Why ?

    • Is it gluten free

  • Anyone know how good this really is,? My El Cheapo rice cooker caught fire last week

    • +3

good price for a 10 Cup Tiger rice cooker.

      • So once cooked it will make around 30 cups ???

        • +1

1 cup gives u 2 bowls of rice so u so the maths. This is a 10 Cup capacity rice cooker so I would buy one if I have to feed a large family. The IH model is the one I would get.

        • +12

how much do we need for 2 girls? 1 cup?

        • @Overtime2000:

2 boys is about 8 cups.

        • :(

        • @jv: 2 boys is 2 cups dry rice so you only need a 5 cup cooker

      • remember, this isn't for a std 250ml cup of uncooked rice……

    • My $80 sunbeam cooks rice as good as my tiger …. it's all about water to rice ratio …. get it wrong and it doesn't matter which cooker you have.

  • What's the advantage of these over, say, the cheap kmart ones ?
Are there different ways of cooking the rice ?

    • What's the advantage of these

      more buttons

    • This is a Smart rice cooker. The cooking is micro computer control.

    • they seal they cooking vessel so you can have a keep warm function, and reduces water loss so it more steams the rice.

avoid those glass lid ones …..

Does the rice come out all fluffy and less watery than the cheapo cookers?

    • +1

no …. still got to get water to rice ratio rice right ….. too much water …. sticky rice, too little you get crunchy rice.

the microprocessor can't add or remove water …. it just adjusts the cooking curve and time ….. so you get smart sticky or smart crunchy rice.

My vn gf fluffs up the rice with chopsticks before removing from the cooker every time.
Its never dry or overcooked just settles and you don't want to break the grains so fluff it up each time after its sat a long period.
She is super fussy how this is done and I'm not allowed to do this to her rice, just mine at home.
Guess after I practice for 10 years..

      • +2

Where do you get one of those?

      • yes even the instruction with the cookers tell you to full the rice after the cook cycle finishes and it goes into keep warm…… sounds like your nan read the instructions . ….. or she you tubed it.

if you don't fluff it after the cook cycle it's packed down.

        • +1

How do you get "Nan" from vn gf? I assumed "Vietnamese Girlfriend"

        • @WatchNerd:

No he means commodore holden girlfriend.

        • @serpserpserp:
Usually you get them from Vietnam not your friendly Holden Dealer, though all their stuff is fully imported these days so who knows.
In all seriousness I recommend Zoosk, worked for me..

Paid $250 for the 5 cup at a Chinese grocery shop.

    • Did you haggle?

    • How long ago, where? Which one? There's an old and new model now. JBA vs JAX

      • I have the JBA.

        • Regardless still quite a good price TBH - Melb or Syd?

    • Where from?

      • +1

Carlingford NSW (at the dirty centre). But note it's a 5 cup.

        • Yeah, there's only two of us, so I'm looking for a 5-cup. Thanks for that, I'll go on the hunt down here in Melbourne.

    Tiger rice cookers are awesome.
There is Noooo comparison between this and another cooker.
This seems to be a good deal.
Having said this I have no experience with the electronic ones
Mine is the one with flowers on it, no fancy electronics.
I have had 5 rice cookers and this tiger is the last I will ever own.

My VN gf has had hers 5 cup (looks same as mine only smaller) for 20 years and uses every day.
If she doesn't finish it will keep the rice prime for at least 2 days; hers has run non stop for 20 years.
I bought my 10 cup for $180ish on ebay, this one seems expensive compared with that.

All the others cook ok only it has better temp control and doesn't dry out the rice or burn/make it brown on the bottom after some time.
I love my Tiger and it was one of the best kitchen appliances I bought.
I wouldn't get this offer, just the one with flowers on outside and no digital readout.
    Search ebay for
    Tiger Rice Cooker JNP-1000 - AC 240V 5.5 Cup
    Tiger Rice cooker JNP-1800 - AC 240V 10 Cup
they are all about $250 inc del at the moment which is higher than I remember.

10 cup is good if all family eats a lot of rice, Chau has a 5 cup and it suits her and 3 kids perfectly.
They all eat rice, she every meal the kids most meals.
My 10 cup is a bit big only it cooks 2-3 cups fine so only downside is it takes up more space than needed,

The only other really good one is a Toshiba, according to friends.

    • (looks same as mine only smaller)

        LOL
At least 1 person read my reply in depth haha.
I'm going to vote your reply up to cancel out that neg.

    • only thing to die on my tiger cooker was the non stick in the bowl was getting too scratched …… but yeah have the one with do display ….. and flowers ….20 years still works …… just the cost of a new bowl was more than a sunbeam cooker …. bought sunbeam cooks just as good.

      • Put sunbeam bowl in the Tiger?

  • Is this compatible with Australian power point?
