stacks with this surely
overpriced freedom furniture
But I feel sorry for retailers in Australia with some of the crazy customers out there. Get a load of this beauty. Surely when you buy a leather lounge you expect it to smell like leather
http://www.productreview.com.au/p/bay-leather-republic.html
Toxic chemicals off gassing from my new couch caused an ambulance trip to hospital. Severe headache, nausea, breathing problems, neurological and speech problems, puffed eyes and dizziness.
The room was well ventilated with two fully opened Windows and. High Grade HEPA filter running 24/7.
The smell is still noxious after 3 days and I have been advised not to go near it and only to enter my unit with a surgical procedure mask.
I am about to try to get a hotel room now as after some hours even wearing the mask I am again feeling EXTREMELY un well and reaffirm my health.
I need Bay Republic to organize removal of this item tomorrow as a matter of urgency and I don't really care to hear any reasons why it cannot be done. (like possibly…it is Easter madam)
They've got a lot of bad reviews, I certainly wouldn't be buying any of their products. Looks like poor quality
We shopped everywhere for couches( over 2 weeks) , literally everywhere and we found bay leather was the most reasonable priced and better quality than other furniture stores for mid range furniture
We also got 35% off RRP which was better than the buy one get one free offer they were offering and also extra $100 off and free delivery
So I would advise before you all jump to conclusions , shop around and compare
Scary stuff.
It seems that with regards to smell, their explanation is "Australian quarantine fumigation requirement".
Just imagine kids licking the leather for no other reason than it's there.
They should probably make the customer wait the extra 2-3 wks to ensure smell has gone, and wipe it down well prior to delivery.
Screw that, it should be Aust law not to sell products that are toxic. waiitttt.
I never bought anything from them, I just submitted the deal.
Now unfortunately it seems to be a common thing:
Real leather undergoes a tanning process that involves many carcinogenic chemicals and solvents that would make any environmentalist cringe. The process is so toxic to both the environment and the workers, in fact, that the EPA and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have closed most USA tanneries (5). At one time (believe it or not), Boston was a world leader in the production of leather goods, but so many pollutants were dumped into rivers and streams that the dirty water runoff kicked off an environmental backlash from consumers.
As for the interior components of a leather couch, there would be little difference from upholstered conventional furniture. Fire retardant foam and cheap, formaldehyde emitting particleboard is favored over a safer solid hardwood frame. Watch out for “engineered hardwood” too which uses plywood construction. All plywood contains formaldehyde glues which outgas over time.
Some leather furniture makers use hypo-allergenic foams and true hardwood frames, but the leather tanning process is still a thorny issue for those that are chemically sensitive.
The only alternative is vegetable tanning but of course it's way more expensive.
We bought 3+2 lounge set from them last year. I wouldn't recommend it. They're very poor quality. The leather is peeling off, stiches coming off, frame is not solid. It's been 2 months we're still waiting for repair.
with the price of their furniture you would want 30% off.
