        • My bad.

          Punctuation folks.

  • Dice player stopped working for me. Will try this out.

  • I was waiting for such a deal. Thanks op

  • No clue what the pro version adds, but the free version is by far the best media player I've used. But at 20c, why not!

It has plenty of codecs, very intuitive design (I haven't ran into a player that does orientation swap right before using this) plus other great features that you wouldn't expect like continuous audio being played on a video even after you've locked the screen.

    • +2

Paying 20c to get rid of the banner ads that show up when you pause the video.

      • Is that a recent thing? Because I haven't noticed any ads. I have a pretty old version and am using adblock. But I'd still be happy to fork out 20c for this. I'll probably hold off on updating in that case.

  • Does the pro add any other features? Gotta be the best video player on the store though.

    • Answered above

  • thanks .. was getting tired of all the extra ads they got these days.

  • Cool.

  • Been my go-to video player on Android for a long time but was unwilling to shell out for the pro version.

But $0.20 for no ads? Done deal.

  • +1

Been using the free version for ages, considering I just got 21c from Google Opinion Rewards… why not XD

  • +5

Funny how people won't bat an eyelid to buy a $5 coffee but $7 for an app? Rip!

    • +3

But… its coffee… I can live without the app but I can't live without coffee =P

    • +1

That's because when you take a coffee, you take the only copy of that coffee.
When someone buys an app from a store the developer just needs to ctrl+v and another version is in stock for someone else to buy, and ctrl+v is free to do.
Source: I just pressed ctrl+v and didn't cost me anything.

    • +1

Bet you wouldn't pay $5 for coffee if that store was surrounded by several other stores selling the same coffee for $0.20 though.

      • I'm a coffee snob.

    • Materialistic world…
      Touche…

    • If I could get the same coffee for free but had to watch an ad, I'll take the free coffee with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar please :)

    • Value is relative. $5 coffee is a rip off.

No idea why isn't allowing me to buy it using my google credit. For the first time since I use my google in more than a decade, it is asking me to provide my identity documents. Pathetic!

  • +4

Blew 20c, just like that…..didnt even care

  • +4

Been using the regular MX Player for years now. It's awesome and probably the best video player out there.

Then it got worse and worse (the bloody ads!). Been using VLC lately but for some stuff, MX still does it better.

So I downloaded the old MX Player (apkmirror) before it was ad-ridden, zip signed it (to stop Play Store bugging me to update it), and installed via 3rd party app. No ads anymore but the downside is that it's an older version.

Well I just bought the pro version for $0.20 using my Google Rewards money. It's bloody worth it.

    Thanks OP.

    • If you were going to pirate the old version why didn't you just pirate the new version lel.

      • I didn't really pirate it. I was only just using an older version before they loaded it up with ads.

Zip signing it is to prevent Google Play Store from prompting you to update it. If you don't zip-sign it, you'll just have to manual cancel or deny the update almost daily.

It would be like using Facebook app and not updating when they tell you that there's a new update available.

  • +1

Thanks OP! I've been using the free version ans loved all the features.

20c is a great bargain for the ad free version.

  • I thought VLC was pretty good, and free. Is this better?

    • +1

I found its much more powerful than vlc + more stable. The UI is also better.

  • Does anyone know how to get mx player to play from a playlist for tv binging sessions? I'm using it with es file manager.

    • +2

If you have the episodes in chronological order in a folder, open the folder in MX and play the first episode and MX just plays one after the other. You can skip to next/previous episodes and it also marks the videos as "watched" in the folder view

      • Awesome thanks mate, works a treat. Doesn't appear to work when streaming over a lan though.

  • +3

    Finally.

Rolled back to an old version awhile back because the ads are so obtrusive now! And I certainly wasn't gonna reward them for that with 7 bloody dollars.

This is a much fairer price. Thanks OP.

  • Thank you. Thank you.
Been waiting for ages for discounts.

  • +2

Without a doubt the BEST media player for Android TV.

It works great on my Sony Bravia unlike the default player which has very limited format support. Also, it's quite fast unlike VLC which is very slow on Android TV.

  • Wow, can finally purchase.

  • Can I buy this if I don't have an Android phone yet? Hoping to pick up an S8 in the future

    • I think you can buy this if you just have a Google account!

      • "You haven't accessed the Google Play Store app (the white shopping bag icon) on your device with this email account."

        • Hmm I might be wrong then. What you can do is download an Android emulator like Bluestacks, and sign into a Google account on the emulator and buy the app

        • @clintyip:

          cool will do

  • Best video app on android, the child lock is a life saver, bought it full price and not regrets at all !

    • The child lock literally saved lives?

      • +2

6 kids lives were saved today when 4 ozbargainers installed mx player for android and enabled the child lock. More headlines after the sports. Back to you Tom.

    • So … what'd you almost show the kids? :P

  • Best media player I have found so very happy to pay 20c for the no ad version.

Had issues a while ago with ac3 not playing but was able to fix after being directed by the devs to their forum.

  • OMG BEST DEAL

  • Thank you! love the kids lock feature

  • Brilliant app, I've used it on a huge amount of devices since I got my S2 and it's always been the goto. Works well on most units and properly supports hardware decoding where possible. Basically everything on the MINIX and Ki Plus in hardware and by contrast and almost nothing on the Samsung (S7) but it's software support is excellent.

  • Thanks OP, been waiting 10 years for this deal.

  • -1

    kodi and VLC are free

    • And awful.

      • aweful good

        • I found with the android mediaboxes that I have (MXQ 4K and a T3), Kodi doesn't seem to play x265 files smoothly at all. It even looks like it is using software decoding. Whereas ES file explorer and feeding the media file to MX player over a LAN has no problems. Also Kodi up to 16.2 did not feed AC3 sound to my hi fi receiver without breakups whereas MX Player was great.

    • and this is 20c

    • …or with Google Reward dollars this is free too.

  • +1

Been using the free version for years. Haven't as much lately but more than happy to pay 20c for past and possible future use.

  • I'm on Telstra prepaid plus. Can I use the plus credit to buy this?

If yes, how? Just add the details on Telstra Billing when it provides the different options (CC/DC, PayPal, Telstra Billing) and will it deduct from the plus credit? Just confirming.

    • Simplicity, Long Life, and Beyond Talk are the only pre-paid plans that give you Telstra billing credit.

  • It's the best player. Have used it (Pro) version for years.

A tip for those using free version.. if you turn off wifi and mobile data, you won't see any ads. :P

  • ***** how could I purchase without having android device ?

  • I have used this app in a professional and public context. It has been running the same h264 video for 6 months continuously without stopping on a Minix, no hiccups.

  • I've been sitting on this app for so long - I love the features, and how robust the player is, just wasn't sure if I was happy to blow a bit over $7 on it. Well, I guess this makes it a lot easier to decide!

  • +1

    Wow 500+ upvotes for this

  • I used to use MX a lot so purchased for the sake of 0.20c. Thanks OP. Just wish it could browse network locations like VLC player can so that I could directly browse the folders where all my Media is located.

  • I have this already but trying to find the previous thread when I got it.. Does anybody know where it is?

  • Hell yeah! I've been using the free version for years. Thanks OP!

  • +2

A few months ago, the ads use to be minimalist and non intrusive but now it's ridiculous. Been using mx player for years and with no issues until the ad change. Will finally put my google credit to use. Thanks!

  • Thanks for sharing, got no problems.

  • Thanks for sharing! The ads were slightly annoying but I'm too much of a tight arse to pay the full 7 bucks.

  • I go well out of my way to avoid paying more than $3.50 for coffee (skinny cap, reg size). Anything more IS a rip.

  • I use this for podcasts I've downloaded independently myself as it (mostly) remembers playback position and has a toggle to be used for audio only. Faster than loading up Joe Rogan or whatever on some app and streaming, and offline files can be played when you're between disposable Boost Mobile 4G package 28 day counts.

  • Really love the interface for this too, re brightness, volume and scrobbling controls.

  • Have been using VLC, will give this a go.

  • It's great to see its on discount and now utan share with family in this purchase

  • Thanks for this, had no idea it costs $7

  • +1

Okay, I felt like I didn't need it, but I can't ignore >600 upvotes. Given that Google Rewards asked me, for the umpteenth time, what my age and gender is (Tjktjing! $0.26 earned!), I feel I can afford to splurge.

    Thanks OP

  • wow , 644 x 0.2 = $128.8 profit

    • Actually, there's 5359 clicks, so it's potentially $1071.80 turnover (not profit). Excluding those who browsed to it on their phone using Play Store, and assuming everyone who clicked bought it.

  • Possibly silly question but has anyone got a reliable 4k UHD player that plays natively on android tv os 1920x1080 is max at output at the moment regardless of whether it will play the file or not.

Both VLC and Kodi don't support on android tv os yet haven't tried MX but everything seems to have a limitation somewhere

  • When you buy something on googleplay is it per device or all devices on the account?

    • +1

I've found it to be per account.

So, I pay for it on my phone and I can have the pro version on my tablet too.

      • +1

Yes. Never seen anything that is device-limited. This app is also eligible for Family Library - ie other people nominated in your family library can also install it on any of their devices. You need to switch on the sharing per app - as some you might not want to share.

        • I think I've seen some Amazon app freebies, that were per device or per installation.

Once installed, that's it. Cannot uninstall + reinstall, can only install for free on a second or other device during the promotion.

But that was installed via the Amazon app.

  • +1

Interesting what they say on their FAQ though :)

    https://sites.google.com/site/mxvpen/faq#TOC-Is-there-any-se…

  • Have had the free one for years. Haven't used for years. Couldn't pass up on the deal so bought and installed anyway. :-)

  • Oh….what the hell.
Top of the voted post, even if I don't use it, it's wrong to not buy it

  • Thanks, OP. Just bought it.

  • Thumbs up for this app :)

Use it for all my videos

  • Thanks OP, this deal is OP.

  • VLC is better IMHO

  • Oops, bought it thinking it was for music.

    • But you can use it for music.

  • Can someone explain to me why i need this for my phone?

  • How do I get Google Rewards money?
Where do i find the surveys?

  • This app work's well, the only problem is that it drains your phone battery fast, whether you use it or not,
must be working away real hard in the background to achieve that, I lost ~30% capacity, removed the app and
    all good.

    • Doesn't happen for but if you want to shut down the app, touch the Recent Apps icon (the rectangle which is the right of the three at the bottom) and swipe the app to the side to close it so it won't run anymore. Except for any notification hooks it's installed which I don't believe this app has.
