Thanks lazybones. You could have just sat back on the couch and binged on Netflix but you've shown initiative and helped out the community. :)

Anyone know if the glass prints go on sale?

If I wanted to do up a collage in Photoshop what dimensions does it need to be to get the image edge to edge? exactly 20"by 40" or slightly less?

    • +2

I work at the Technology counter in a Big W. You should ask your question directly to the company that Big W contracts to do all their out-of-store printing. http://www.fujifilmphotos.com.au/contact-us

Thanks for the tip, but I surely you guys are asked this question all the time??

You need to size it 1:2 so 1500*3000 pixels for example.

Log into the website and see how your load photos and how they will look, this will answer all your questions.

Thanks for the tip, I was asking because as we all know, print usually ends up being different to what is presented on screen. Hopefully this time is not the case!

Looking at past recent offers for this Big W deal, the general feedback of quality is awful. I'm keen at getting some wide drone prints done, but looking at the earlier comments it looks like the Big W quality on metal and glass is atrocious.

    • +12

Where did you get this "feedback" from?

These deals won't be so popular if the quality is awful. I have a 20X40 canvas print and I can vouch for the quality of the canvas print.

There's enough mixed reviews to concern me. I think the canvas buyers are more happy than the metal and glass buyers, plus I don't like the downsizing and re-compression they do. But I'll check your links. I am keen to get some prints from my 6000x2800 drone panoramas.

Fair enough on the metal print. I'm tempted to get a Metal Print myself to test the quality and send it back if it's not good enough.

You said that the feedback in general was awful so which one is it?

The quality is fine and the feedback is good, clearly you're someone who finds fault in everything so keep looking for the non existent perfect company with 100% positive feedback as opposed to the nearly 100% that Fuji has.

          Wow! talk about overreacting.

I'm glad you have accepted that you overreacted with your claim that the feedback for Fuji was awful.

@Maverick-au: Well here is a direct experience. I had two 30x 40 canvas prints done about 3 months ago and I thought they were both too dark. Fuji was good enough to print one again but it was exactly the same as the first so not much point in trying. Also the surface of the prints is too glossy for my taste in a canvas print and makes viewing difficult. I'm sure for many people the quality is fine but if are remotely fussy I would spend 3 time as much and have them printed professionally. Note they were packed beautifully.

Haven't tried the metal or glass. The canvas, wood block, photo books and coffee cups have been good quality when I've bought them. The only one's I've been disappointed with are the tile magnets, as they were washed out.

    • The canvas prints I've received have been good. No blurring of the pictures I used. Shot pics with my D5300, but only used jpeg (not raw) for the pics.

Not sure how the metal or glass are, but will definitely order another canvas in the future.

After my wedding, we got 8 x canvas prints of different sizes from the New Year sale.

Some people maybe very fussy with what they call top quality but myself…I am very happy with how they came out.
IMHO I found one pic on a canvas looked better than a collage but again I was still happy with the quality.

    Hope this helps

  • How would these compare quality wise to the Groupon deal posted recently?

Can someone explain why the regular price of the 20x40 is more than the 30x40?

    • -1

Can someone explain why the regular price of the 20x40 is more than the 30x40?

Why does it matter? Clearly they sell more 20x40 so have priced it lower.

    • +1

So that when they have one of these 'sales' on the very popular 20x40 canvas, the discount looks bigger.

  • I'm going to give it a go. Can any previous purchasers recommend what print surface Big W does better; glass or metal?

Why don't you buy the one that suits you and your photos not what suited someone else's photos? Most of the feedback is the canvas but read previous deals for some on the glass and metal but it really depends on your photos.

He is just asking for peoples opinion. Chill out mate. If you don't have anything to add then may be don't say anything but why shoot down a honest question?

Asking which they do better makes no sense as they do all their products well but they are different technologies with a different finish and different result. Hence why I said buy what suits you, do you want glass hanging on the wall or lighter metal or even lighter canvas. What suits your photos best? Etc etc.

I personally use canvas as I prefer the finish, I know others with metal and glass and they all have pros and cons but you can't say that one is finished better then the others.

  • I purchased two canvas prints from Big W for my parents and in-laws for Christmas. The quality exceeded my expectations and both sets of parents were very happy! I have now ordered a wedding picture canvas for my place :)

  • Had a bunch of canvas prints done last time this deal was on and can vouch for the canvas print quality, I think it's excellent. The glass print quality is good too but beware the glass gives the print a green tint, so you may need to compensate beforehand. Have not tried metal. Beware the glass is very heavy compared to canvas.

Oh and of course do your order online.. unless you want to faff around in-store and deal with plaque covered keyboards, trackballs and occasionally faulty I/O ports.

Posters and Panoramics are half price too…

I don't like the bulky canvas prints, but I've done a few of these prints before and just switch them into a frame :)

    • Any tips on where you purchase frames to fit these larger prints in? I'm eyeing off the 12x36 print for a panorama I took recently travelling but want to make sure there's an affordable and simple looking frame available I could put it in.

      • No sorry, we just have a ton lying around, my wife collects them from op-shops and garage sales :)

        • +1

Thanks for getting back to me. Want to click buy on the print but have a feeling I'll end up having issues finding a frame so trying to come up with some more creative ideas.

  • I'm sort of leaning to the glass. I've seen a couple of examples by pro print companies which are very nice, but way more expensive than the Big W ones. Most of the pics I'm interested in printing are very large drone panoramas taken with the a DJI Phantom 4 Pro. The 20-mp pictures from the drone are very sharp with a rez of 300dpi and 6000-8000 horizontal pixels.

With my comments about the negative feedback, I was more interested in the comments by experienced photographers rather than the hobbyists who I'm sure are very happy with a great canvas print. So no offense to anyone here intended. I'm a cinematographer and interested in what the options are.

  • Been playing around with their program online, i cant seem to get the photo to wrap around the sides like in the previews. Never purchased one of these before, is this normal or is there a certain resolution and size thats needed to get that wrap around effect?

  • Thanks, I've been waiting for this sale to come on again. Question for someone who has printed the 20"x40" before or knows how big does a photo need to be in pixels and dpi to be a good quality print?

Check out the previous deals as this has been discussed in detail there. Their system won't let you proceed with photos that are too low a resolution either.

      • Thanks!

  • Terrific. Thanks. Perfect timing for Mother's Day.

Do the 100x100 prints ever go on sale? :/

Also, the imperial system needs to banished. It's pointless.

  • Should we ensure that our pics are converted to adobe rgb first for printing? Does it matter?

    • I think you mean from not to. I doubt BigW would assume most customers are going to be uploading aRGB …
