Great, can finally upgrade from my free copy of DxO Elite 7

    • +1

Me too - I upgraded from my free copy of DxO 8. Love this software!

  • +5

    What does this do?

    • +27

Edits images. Alternative to Lightroom with different features. Not really for pixel level editing like Photoshop. More for post-processing and correction.

      • +6

        Really concise response thanks.

  • +3

I'm a complete noob at DSLR photography and don't know anything about post-processing.

Would this be easy to use for beginners or is there something else I should look into?

    • +6

For a beginner this is perfect for free and not complicated to learn/use.

Adobe Lightroom is the industry standard, but no point in considering it as a beginner.

      • Thanks xuqi I'll give this a go then, cheers!

I personally feel like my output from Capture One Pro to be better than Lightroom. I also know quite a few who have switched over from Lightroom too…

Having said that, Lightroom still has a much better selection of lens profiles - especially for Pentax (which I use).

        • I'm one of those people. Any bargain on Capture One? :)

        • +2

@noone: I wish! I'm constantly on the lookout for when they release version 11, cause they usually have a massive discount on the previous version before launching the new one. I guess keep a look out on their page? Though it probably won't be any time soon given that 10 was released not that long ago…

As a beginner, maybe you should read this review on Techradar:

      http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/software/graphics-an…

Don't know if it's really for you.

I'd advise watching some youtube videos on how to shoot and edit raw. A few great channels are CameraRecToby and Tony & Chelsea Northrup, they have lots of content, with plenty of beginners guides. Once you start shooting raw and get used to the workflow (DO NOT use photoshop, it will turn you off it, try lightroom or this) you'll never go back. Most guides are in lightroom though, so if you have a way of getting that, it will be super easy, and thats the path I went down.

  • How long before the email is sent? I tried it ~ 15 minutes ago but nothing received yet in the Gmail account* (*not in Spam either).

    • +1

      I got it straight away

      • Thanks, took about 30 minutes but I finally received it.

  • -6

Thank OP, I got three codes :)

Activation needs to be online, so I guess they are used once only.

Hmmm, not sure how I would use it.

  • Can you activate at any time after getting the codes or does that also need to be done by June?

    • +1

It only mentioned the following terms. I'm going to assume you can activate it any time, but keys are only distributed until June 30.

Your activation code can be used simultaneously on 2 computers (Mac and PC). Please note that your free license is not upgradeable.

The code is generic PRCTCL2017.No need to put your email and get spammed.

    • +1

That is for the discount on the Version 11 of the product, not the free Version 7 for which you need to sign up for and then get an email with the product code to activate

      • +13

Oops my bad. I just followed the Goto deal link and assumed that's the signup page. Thanks for correcting me.

        • +10

+1 for admitting you are wrong and being mature/thanking person who corrected you. Should be the norm but so rare it turns heads.

it's right to downvote your comment because it is misinformation, but no harm in upvoting this one.

    • As others have reported this is not the required product code… BUT for any users that are looking at purchasing DxO OpticsPro 11 Elite, they can use the cost you posted above "PRCTCL2017" during checkout and it will give you a discount (for it it went from US$199 down to US$149).

      Cheers!

  • My camera isn't on the list, but is there anything stopping me from importing raw files myself?

    • DXO Optics Pro is a raw processor. Each camera type has a proprietary raw format. If your camera is not supported DXO will not be able to read your raw. This makes it useless.

      • +2

You can still edit jpegs though…

      • Oh of course, thanks.

      Detailed response from customer support:
      https://support.dxo.com/hc/en-us/articles/207328157-DxO-Opti…

      Basics are:
      - Can't edit RAW if camera not supported
      - JPG has noise reduction enabled automatically
      - Other than RAW features everything including lens corrections work with JPG

      Still worth having.

Has anyone tried this with Windows 10? I read on their website that Windows 10 isn't officially supported.

I just ran into the same problem. I did some searching and if you have Windows 10 64 bit. It's not compatible, as per the link below.

Just tried it now that I'm home from work. Seems to work fine on my Win 10 desktop. I haven't done anything special like running in compatibility mode, so I think it is definitely possible to get it to work =)

      • you must have a magic Win10 or do you just have the 32 bit version?

        • I have the 64-bit version. No idea how it just works though

  • I prefer the 8, its interface is unique and functional whereas in the 9 the tried to copy Lr.

Processing failed for an unknown reason?
    Help!

  • How does this compare to lightroom? I'm just starting out but all the guides online seems to teach lightroom.

Also I have the Nikon D3400 which isn't in their list of cameras but D3300 is support which from my understanding is the older version of my camera. Will it work with my camera then?

  • thanks OP, upvoted

just to add to the conversation about RAW editors here, I've been using RawTherapee (open-source freeware) for a little over a year now and it's seriously fantastic considering the price. honestly i recommend trying it out with OpticsPro and seeing which you prefer, may as well seeing as they'll only set you back #0.00 together

on my Win10 it never starts just a blue ring for a few secs. HELP

  • It Wouldn't install on win 10,downloaded it again and managed to install it. Started it, went well at first then crashed loading my pictures. Now crashes everytime I want to start it. This is silly, I can run the 8th version on the same computer, what a dodgy move not to make that version compatible…

    • DxO OpticsPro 10 is Windows 10 compatible. That's the incentive to upgrade.

      • I'll wait for that one to be free then! Shouldn't take too long I'm guessing since that version is 2 years old now.
Still don't understand why dxo 8 runs perfectly fine on win 10 though…
