Cheapest price on Staticice is $365 exluding postage, so this is a great deal.

    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=nmh305&spos=1

However, the NMH405 is as cheap as $148

    • maybe that NMH405 for $148 is the real bargain!

      • did a quick bit of research, and lots of reports of very slow transfer speeds on the NMH405.
        tread carefully.

    • Unfortunately I don't know the difference between 305/405, it appears the 405 has LCD and 6-card reader. But plenty of other retailers doing the 305 for a lot more so I still voted +ve.

  • NMH405 is at $148, how can you say the NMH305 at $199 is a bargain???

  • No .mkv support is a shame

It's a NAS not HTPC you idiot.

      • Nope, it's a Media Hub… It does more than just storage…

      • +1

        What does this mean then?

Media server support for most content formats:
        Audio: M4A, M4B, MP4, 3GP, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, MP2, AC3, MPA, MP1, AIF, ASF

So it can only transfer these types of formats?

  • Anyone installed sabnzbd on these?

  • unless i didnt read correctly under support
Photo: PNG, TIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF (no Jpeg)???

    • Provides user-friendly, browser-based Media Browser to view JPEG pictures, play MP3 and WMA music, and manage system configuration

  • crappy cheapo NAS boxes are getting blown out

the Linksys 405 was $148 inc. 500gb drive

Stora was $109 with no drives

but they are all crap and juggle with your files so tread carefully

  • No MKV :(

    • Looks like the 405 supports MKV.

    • Just checked and mine does support mkv. When you browse the files using the web interface you can play them directly from the browser and it opens them in Windows Media Player. Doesn't seem to work from Firefox though, needs some other sort of plug-in

  • The higher end model is available for less ($148) here: http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

  • bad reviews/ no support / no new firmware

    http://homecommunity.cisco.com/t5/Media-Hub/Wheres-the-new-F…

  • the 405 seams to be the better deal ($148), cheaper and more features. Not sure why you would go with the 305 even if it is the cheapest on static ice.

  • ok….will this suit me?
I have an astone ap300, squeezebox, and a ?soundbridge?. All of these I can stream media to wirelessly from my pc.
If I had one of these, can I fill it, plug it into my modem and have it stream to those gadgets without my pc being on?

    • check that your devices are compatible with it…

i stream from a QNAP NAS and it works great with my squeezebox… Also now controlling squeezebox from my iphone which is fantastic !!!

  • I bought one of the NMH405 units off Wireless1 a couple of months back for $149 and put two 2TB Samsungs drives in it. I use it for backing up my PC and storing all my media files on it and have no problem streaming my avi's and mkv's off it with my Astone AP-110D, everything plays flawlessy.

I too saw all the negative comments about speed etc and they were valid for something as costly as it was and I too wouldn't have touched it then but for $149 I think it's fantastic and can live with it's shortcomings.

I ditched the included software and use Autover to backup my important data.

  • thanks for the info…
