[Price Error] Mac Pro at Qantas Store for 93K points, or 5K points + $520

Moved to Forum: Original Link

A friend brought this to my attention on Sunday morning, but you can get the last generation Mac Pro for 93,000 points (using barometer for 4230 points for $25 Myer gift card, that's only about $549. If you use the Points + Pay slider to reduce the points to 5,000, you only have to pay $520. Not sure if it's a mistake or just clearance, but I ordered one Sunday. Hasn't shipped yet, but should in the next day or so.

Price error (moved to forums): Emails are now coming through confirming the price error. As compensation Qantas are providing 2000 points and a 20% discount code for those who unsuccessfully ordered.

Nice, then you should see the same way I see it.

          @fvalemus:

          i do and dont

        • +3

@universe: then you should + the deal

        • +4

          @idonotknowwhy:

The self entitled 'person' who is going to demand a company honour a price error didn't even +1 the deal.

There really needs to be a separate report option for people like that. Until then I can only wish bad karma.

        • -1

          @idonotknowwhy:

I will, when or if i receive it. No point noww anyways as it is expired and really makes no difference.

  • It said 2-3 days delivery when I bought it, now it says 5 days, I guess the demand was high on the product, and they have to order more in even with a loss.

    • +1

they don't have to order any, it will just be drop shipped from apple, or who ever their supplier is.

      • Pretty much..

  • +3

Bargain of the year if this lands. I will refrain from refreshing this page every 5 seconds.

  • My Sennheiser headphones I ordered in January took 2 weeks to ship. In that time I received no communication at all so I am not holding my breath on this one…

  • -2

Everyone who got on this pre-OzBargain post should have it honoured….

    • +1

Why? What makes them so special? How does Qantas know if it a OzB user or not, did they contact the ATO for pattern matching data from OzBargain? Maybe meta data was used to find out?

      • Based on the current record the data matching algorithm would probably bill everyone that commented on this post for the full cost of the Mac Pro.

      • Don't get your knickers in a knot.

What makes them special….they found out about this bargain first pre-OzB.

Qantas don't need to know if someone is an (not a) OzB user. All they would need is to sort by order time.

        • But what if someone isnt on ozB and they bought it and found it thsemelves?

Not even one is a professional

    • Did AJ tell you that?

      • Sorry, obviously missing something. Who is AJ?

        • Alan Joyce, you know the CEO that runs Qantas

        • +1

@nightelves: Ah got it. I actually think he is a pretty good businessman. Has really turned Qantas around. Even had the mega balls to ground the airline. Reverse strike.

  • +1

I don't know why I keep refreshing this page. I know it's only going to be speculation, and qantas will contact me directly to give me the FU news at some point.

    • +9

      Name checks out

  • +2

Perhaps one thing that makes it a little more complicated for Qantas is that this is part of loyalty program. To what extent would they want to disappoint a silver, gold, platinum etc. member? Not sure what the outcome will be but I don't think it is as cut and dried as an order cancellation with full refund.

    • Oh no, I'm just a bronze pleb :(

  • Good news everyone… there hasn't been any news.

    • Absolutely, nad based on other comments Qantas doesn't give much communication between purchase and dispatch. They have recognised the error though… But at the same time the transaction has gone from pending to complete for me!

Ditto. Well 20% off is still a good deal. Not that I'll be taking advantage of it!

      • +1

Agreed. 2000 points is a very kind gesture also.

        I enjoyed the ride, OzB's!

      • +1

20% off is still 576K points which is definitely not a good deal.

        • It's a good deal compared to actual points required…

All relative my friend. There are hardly ever any 'good' deals on the Qantas store.

        • How about with Points + Pay?

        • @abc:

Even worse, you're essentially paying the entire RRP of the Mac Pro plus points on top, of which you save less because you're taking 20% off a smaller number.
I haven't looked at the entire spectrum but it seems linear.

I can't wait to see all those eBay scammers getting negative feedback!

    • +1

they will just remove their listing and say there was an error, no harm, even auctions can be removed. dodgy ebay

      • +4

Most the listings posted earlier were 'buy it now' auctions where people sold all their units in an hour or two.

Pretty sure they have to go through with the eBay process from here as the funds were already transferred into their PayPal account. That includes refunding the money with an explanation - however the buyer can still leave feedback based on that as the transaction has gone through - just the item wasn't sent.

Here's hoping they get slammed in the feedback over it.

        • ahhh LOL haha

        • …and reported to eBay :)

Not to mention chasing the final value fees!

Thanks for the 2000 points QF.

  • +2

Got the email too. Not disappointed, knew it was most likely going to be cancelled anyway.
    2000 points woohoo!

    • Yes, unsurprising, but OF COURSE we're disappointed!

  • do the sharks who ordered 5 of these things get 5x2000 points ?

    • Doubt it. Unless they ordered 5 separately. Probably just 2000 points per order.

  • Hooray for free points

  • Yeah, I guess they got that about right. 2000 points is better than nothing.

  • Disappointed. I won't fly with QANTAS anymore. Should we launch CLASS ACTION?

5 minutes work for 2k points, still a decent outcome IMHO considering who on earth would cop a 4k loss on every machine sold?

    • -1

well….. a day of waiting before we got the confirmation email.

I was mentally expecting for the MacPro (even youtube it)

So it should cost more than that…

      • lulz :D:D

  • +1

2000 points is approximately what dollar equivalent?

    • +1

      $20

    • +1

      ~$14

  • Is that 2000 points on top of the refunded 5000 points?
Or actually the 5000 points spent only got refunded for 2000 points?

    • My account has been refunded the 5000 points, but they say the 2000 points may take up to 5 business days

      • Wow that was quick to get your 5000 refunded.
        Anybody else got it yet?

  • +1

Any one who really actually wanted one could also use the 20% voucher to save $1000 on a mac pro…

    • +2

The newer iMacs are significantly cheaper and faster in most tasks than the 2013 Mac Pro + they come with a 27" 5K screen.

There's no reason to get a Mac Pro over an iMac - hence why they do not sell at all.

      • Plus the "updated" Mac Pro still only has a HDMI 1.4 port. This means a 4K Monitor will only work over 30Hz refresh lol.

The Thunderbolt ports are useless as Apple no longer sells the monitor to hook up to them :P

        • They have many thunderbolt ports on the back which support mDP. Most monitors these days do 4K 60hz over DP/mDP.

Those who would output to an HDMI device from a Mac Pro would most likely go through an industry standard output card such as Blackmagic Ultrastudio also.

HDMI 1.4 isn't a limiting factor when you have Thunderbolt.

as they say in the classics, if it's too good to be true it's probably on OzBargain

      haha classic wecanbothkickagoal

      • Don't encourage him!

    • +1

Yeah that's enough of those copy and pasted emails now k, thx.

You are also pretty low for not giving the deal a +1 yet you purchased it.

      • -1

Oh god, these are rules I didn't know about…
        I just joined…

        • +5

          It's not a rule.

It's just common sense and courtesy that you up vote a deal you think is good value, especially if you purchase it. There's many deals posted on this site that are great deals, but because of people like 1cent they don't upvote them yet purchase them and others never know about them because they don't get upvoted to the front page.

Even now there's people negging my comment because they actually want the opposite. That is they want to not say thanks, comment on the thread as part of the community, yet not be called out on them being bad for the community.

1cent is a 2 year old member with a single post. I have a strong feeling it's a sockpuppeting account. Their entire contribution to this site in 2 years is to post that comment - why even bother signing up? Why not keep lurking?

        • @c0balt:

          Common sense? Really??

Does the OP receive any tangible benefit for someone upvoting his deal?

If no, then why is it common sense to upvote a deal?

And calling someone low for not upvoting a deal - yet you speak about courtesy.

        • +4

          @singhdingaling:

Ok you have never voted on a deal, that's a low act. It is a low act because deals rely on positive votes to reach the front page. People rely on the frontpage to be exposed to the deals. If you don't vote - members in the community miss out on even seeing deals which may be awesome - because of people like yourself who actively contribute against the community.

Looking through your post history, it's easy to see that you are an active troll without a shred of actual humour and I implore people to check your post history to find out just how some members actively try and make it worse for others.

I can't see any helpful advice and you just write negative comments all the time. You would contribute more to this site as a lurker than someone who is allowed to post.

You are bad for this site, I hope the mods catch on.

    • it actually began 10 mins ago. See comments above.

    • -1

      Same here

  • -1

can't we just order it with the 20% off then dispute it with the credit card company, we still have an invoice for 5000 + $520 :(

    • +7

Those who are a intellectually challenged with nothing better to do, and prepared to waste their time without recompense are most welcome to try.

I just hope they document it for the rest of OZB to be entertained.
