          because unlike a myriad of other no-branded and rebranded crap, this is from a renowned Japanese manufacturer with long history of quality and innovation.
          That's worth something, no?

          No it's not, today's AKAI is not the same company.

          They were bought by a Chinese company (Grande Holdings) in the late 90's to use the name to sell cheap crap.

          AKAI hasn't made anything decent for years.
