Soniq E55FV16A 55" FHD LED LCD TV - $499 @ JB Hi-Fi

100

Looks like a good price for a 55" FHD. Anyone had any experience with quality?

  • Got this deal in an email earlier, peculiar that it mentions in the subject "55" Smart LED-LCD" but when clicking the link it doesn't seem to be a Smart TV at all. Edit: I probably need to do a bit more digging, but not a bad price for a TV which won't be in the main loungeroom :)

  • Vendor in title please.

  • +2

Soniq is the worst picture quality TV ive ever owned. just cuz you asked.
    would never buy again

    • Have to agree here, the panel might be comparable to other TVs but the OS is slow and clunky, runs like a 486 trying to boot Windows 10

  • OP, it's a $500 55" TV.
I think any concerns about quality or lack there of, are mute.
Assume it's ok and it works, but don't expect "Sony guts", terrific image quality, and fast/snappy menu options.

It is what it is, and it's built to a price point. Image, speed, quality… all less than to be expected in superior brands, but that's an unfair comparison.

    • actually, Sharp has one of the best LED Tech in the TV industries.

      • I hear Samsung and LG aren't too bad either.

And your point is :) ?

(Sorry, I've missed the connection between Sharp and Soniq you've made)

    • The guts of Soniqs are mostly Samsung, as it happens.

I've played with a lot of Soniqs, the picture is good quality for a budget TV. The sound is rubbish, but it is on most flat panels other than the top of the range ones. As far as longevity goes, I'd have to say they're not bad.

      • I'm legitimately interested in this point, can I ask how it is you know Samsung make some of the components?

I don't give a crap about sound because that's external on my lounge set up, so if it's just the screen I'm genuinely interested to know where its made.

        • Hmm…. a google of "Soniq Samsung" gives this:

          https://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/166672,who-is-soniq-look…

It's from 2010, but very interesting none the less! I wonder if LG and Samsung are still providing the panels ?!?
It basically says that Soniq's panels are one generation behind the parent panel makers, which makes sense on how they can manufacture so cheap (by buying old tech from the big brands trying to offload stuff). So this years Samsung is next years Soniq?!

Any further info greatly appreciated. Maybe a Soniq is indeed that little bit better than say HiSence or Kogan?

        • Soniq use old SLCD panels (Sony and Samsung)

Just bought one and took it back the next day, take 60 sec to boot up and has permanent jbhi adds throughout the menu. "Smart" features are all horrible and most don't work or clunky at best.

    • permanent jbhi adds??

      R u efing serious?

    • Lol- 1 minute to boot and with adds, what a joke

Friends of ours bought one and it looks horrible, terrible interface and the colours look saturated

We have a 5 yo Sony and it shits all over it

  • Can it be set to an external input and left there so i can plug in my device of choice and have it boot to that input when turned on?
(thus avoiding the slow crappy in built menu system mentioned above)

    • Manual and extra info mate: https://www.soniq.com/au/shop/televisions/smart-tvs/55--FULL…

But taking a quick scan through I couldn't see whether it remembered last channel/input.
I know my old Panasonic plasma does that (and so does a newer Samsung LED), so Foxtel is always first thing to come up, but I guess only way to know for sure is pop into JB's and test yourself. It would make sense that a TV does exactly that, but without testing it who knows.

Interestingly, it quotes this particular model as having an inbuilt PVR and USB ports, but no internet noted (wired or wireless capability), so most likely not a 'smart' tv persay.
