      I have a different mini 1070 and it's great - never as cool, as mentioned, but does a pretty good job in my tiny case. I'm rocking a Silverstone SG13 case which is about as small as it gets, no complaints.

      Some of the mini cards have a blower cooler which suits smaller cases better as well.

        Why not? I used to sli two GTX 670's from different manufacturers perfectly fine. Nvidia allowed the use of two different cards from the same series a while back, i.e. any two 1070's should be fine to sli but best Google it.

      Yes, but don't. Scaling is shit, especially for DX12 games. Better off selling card and buying a faster one.

        I already have a GTX 1070 - seems like Sli is the most economic way to get more power - especially of i can grab a used GTX 1070 for cheap.

          What returns are you expecting?

          If your main card is at 100%, from reviews the best you can reasonably hope for on DirectX 11 games is 160%, with many DirectX11 games at 130% the performance. With DirectX 12 games its at roughly 120% to 130%. Ideally 2 of the same cards versus 1 card you'd want 200%, but reviews aren't showing that.

          That is excluding the issues with correctly setting up the ideal SLI settings for each game or the potential issues such as microstutter.

          @FabMan: what is the current cost of the 1080 ti? Like over 1 grand, $1,200? The max I would get from selling the 1070 would be 500 - so the net cost to get 1080 to would range from min $500 to a more likely $700 to $800.

          Having a look at OC3Ds benchmarks his 1070 sli config did fairly well for most of the games tested, and if I can pick up a used one for $400 or less in a few month - that seems like the most economic way to get better fps.

          Sure sli doesn't scale well, and some will just use the single 1070 card - but the 1070 is no slouch and performs reasonably well - in fact when sli works in several benchmarks it looks to out perform the 1080 ti.

          Spend $400 to get more fps - be it unreliable seems like a better option than fork out another $750 or so for the single card.

          Plus selling on eBay is a nightmare, they take a huge cut, PayPal takes a huge cut and the buyer has buyer protection leaving the seller with all the risk.

          I withdrew an offer from a buyer for $580 on my card a week ago due to my unwillingness to go the eBay route.

          Sli ain't so bad - would I prefer a single card sure, but only if I didn't already own the 1070 which has an ever deminishing secondhand market value.

          @x853: I used Crossfire for a while and when it worked out it was glorious, but it didn't do it for the games I really wanted it to. Plus I often got flickering or other problems.

          On OzBargain there is a 1080 for 699 at Umart, could try GumTree for your 1070 for $450, if successful you are pretty much guaranteed better fps with no configuration for $249.

          @FabMan: Cheers man. Thanks for taking the time to provide well informed responses. Honestly I'm fairly happy with a single 1070 ATM - but if something comes up I'm leaving it as an option.

          I actually own a 3440x1440p freesync monitor so if I do sell my GPU I have my eye on Vega (depending on benchmarks)

    The RX5xx series are due soon as well as Vega. GTX1070 and GTX 1080 are also due a refresh with faster memory bandwidth, this is a really bad time to buy.

      I haven't heard of the GTX 1070 receiving faster memory, only the GTX 1080. But I expect GTX 1070 prices will continue to fall because the original GTX 1080 is getting a price drop.

      There is always something around the corner though. I had the same hopes for the RX480 when it first came out. Then AMD decided to take their sweet time releasing the non reference cards. I couldnt wait any longer and ended up getting a GTX1070. I would suggest that the OP just goes ahead and buys what is best for this time.

        I am currently using an OCed R9 290, the rx480 OR RX 580 will only be a minor upgrade for me. This is why i was looking at 1070s. I also think the Vega cards will be atleast $700. Which is way out of my budget. Also, I am not sure if the current 1070 will go below $400 ever. I think once it reaches $400 Nvidia will just bring out a refreshed 1070 with faster memory or something and bump up the price slightly.

        Does anyone know if Vega will have direct competitor to the 1070 or will they all be higher end ?

      PLE hands-down, as it has local warranty. Zotac aren't known for their stellar longevity, so best have the local warranty convenience for a few $ more.

      I jumped on the $499 Galax 1070 EX full sized card @ PLE. Great upgrade from an old gtx 750!
