  • Can only be booked through the Jetstar VN website? Hard to read any of it.. haha

Google chrome translator is your friendz

Only one way? Anyone who's already had a look: How much the other way?

    • +1

Same prices. Just had a look

  • +3

    Nice find! ~AUD$260 return

    • Yeah man, especially for a direct flight

  • +3

Just checked - it's $132 on the Jetstar AU page.

    • So the deal also valid on the Au page for the same period?

      • 2,114,833 VND incl. tax, = $120 AUD - roughly the same?

        • is that fare a direct flight or multi-stops?

        • @HenryGalilei:

Direct flight (it's the exact same flight, just on Jetstar's AU page) - they probably factor in currency exchange, hence the $12 difference.

  • Did a dummy booking the opposite way Melb to Ho chi Minh.. Came up $287 return, sounds cheap? there were random dates in May

    • Should be, as Jetstar and Vietnam Airline have direct flight. Vietnam Airline direct flight to Melb should be $750 plus

  • +2

    Fare excludes taxes

    • Yes, as i mentioned above, but still, after you add all the services, the fare is still the cheapest in the range

  • excellent price. I paid $375 return OOL<—>HCMC with Airasia (stop over @ KL), and thought that was pretty good.

Don't forget your AUS$40 VISA on arrival, and US$9 invitation letter for VISA before you arrive

Of course some of us have dual passports with visa free travel to Vn. :-)

    • Haven't the e-visas finally started yet ?

      • +2

        Australia is excluded unfortunately.

      • Are Vietnam moving to e-visa?

        • -1

That is talk only. It is supposed to be in effect on 1/2/2017 yet, there is no website to apply. There seems to be a paper form you need to fill in and there is no clear detail of how and where to submit that form and how to pay. So don't keep your expectation too high for Viet Nam.

Australia is not in the list of countries eligible for that e-visa thing anyway so you will still get slugged with the approval letter and VOA fee.

        • @samehada:
I'm pretty sure it's this site, can't confirm 100% because I'm at work at some sites are blocked. But I'm pretty sure this is the one I was looking at a few weeks ago.

However, as you said Australia is excluded from e-visa anyway.

        • @PeteM: So finally it was up and running. The last time I check it is not up yet.

        • +1

          @PeteM:
there are some "scam" web-sites that should not be used, and this is stated on the official Vietnamese Embassy website

    • Which passports have free visa to VN?

      • Some EU European ones, in my case the Italian one, mind you cost me near $1k to get it and 2 years of slog.

Also VISA free over the Aussie one to:

        Brazil
        Ukraine
And at least 6 other countries from memory

        Sadly not Russia or China

If you ever get in trouble have 2 consulates working for you, and of course no time limit in Europe travel, work, public hospitals and residents

          Dual citizenship rocks! 😊

        • Which passports have free visa to VN?

          .

the Italian one, mind you cost me near $1k to get it and 2 years of slog.

That's a lot of money to spend on a free visa. The paid one is only $80 - $100 via an agent and cheaper if diy.

Do you mean permanent residence, or citizenship?

          (not my neg btw)

        • @Providence:

Full Citizenship, i am Italian by blood but not birth, i have same rights, inc. voting etc

I heard a guy has 8 passports, bit of catching to do :-)

    • i'm going to Vietnam soon. I need a multi entry visa as i'm going to cambodia as well. What's the best thing to do in order to get the visa?

  • yeah i did a few dummy bookings, $281

    syd - hcmc

Not bad, except i just got back 3 weeks ago LOL

  • Some of the fares on that page seem ludicrously low:

Dong Hoi (central-ish Vietnam) to Hai Phong (near Ha Long Bay) is 40,000VND or $2.30 AUD.

    How does that make work?!

    • Most of those fares exclude tax, they always have free tickets promo. But not free after tax and service fees included

Luckily I can read Vietnamese <3

That profile picture compliments your comment perfectly. haha

What a bargain! That's cheaper than coming to Australia by Boat.

  • Thanks OP, this will be good for when I escape the gulag.

  • Bahn mis here I come!!

Everyone knows what you mean but there is no such thing in VN.

      • Say it aint so. It's my favourite thing in the universe

        • +2

Plenty of brilliant Banh Mi in Vietnam!

        • +1

Do yourself a favour and go to Bánh Mi Phương in Hội An. Best I've ever had.

        • -1

Oh well, too subtle to say you misspelt bánh mì

      • +2

Ummm… no, there are plenty of Banh Mi in VN. I have been a number of times over the last decade plus, and have averaged one a day.

        • +1

I am guessing that you always carry Immodium!

    If it's $287 why op says $50
I'm getting confused. Am I missing something here?

      • airport tax (~$55 from VN and ~$82 from Australian airport)
    • you need to book from Vietnamese version of the website and select the return ticket from SGN to SYD

  • Hopefully, they start flighting directly from Brisbane soon.

    • +1

runways are flooded mate.. very unlikely!

      • +2

Not sure he meant that soon.

  • It's anyone else having trouble with this website?
It's translating, but won't do what it's sposed to do.
The Au Jetstar website is acting weird for me also.

I want to go to Vietnam for 50bux plus taxes! 😊

  • Off subject but FYI Vietnam Airlines are starting direct flights between Hanoi & Sydney 3 times per week.

  • Cheaper than going to Bali!

  • +1

Perhaps the title should be changed by now?

My understanding is you'll save $12 or so booking the return leg separately as opposed to booking the return flight from Australia? And you'll pay the old $8.50 booking fee or maybe more in VND since the RBA law doesn't apply?

  • Always the way. Booked a few weeks ago, got a decent deal but not direct!

  • -3

but what about us true blue aussies - the ones that don't live in victoria or nsw

  • +1

For a sec I thought this is VietJet, where you can get served by bikini cladded stewardesses. ^_^

  • +2

Thank you mods for updating the deal. The original deal was speculative and violated Australian single price provisions because the OP had no choice. Now we know that when including taxes, charges and the mandatory credit card booking fee on Jetstar Vietnam's website the deal is no different to what you can buy on the Australian website as part of the Easter deal (http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/deals/easter-sale).

We also now know the returning discount flights are confirmed as being direct (8 3/4 hrs each way), though more expensive indirect flights are available.

So yeah, the title still looks like a scam by Australian standards :)

  • Thank OP. I ended up booking tickets in September (dep:16th return 26th) for $350. A little bit pricier but still damn cheap. Both flights were direct.
