  • I think that anybody who wants the rebate but doesn't have an old printer to dispose could offer to accept an old printer from someone nearby needing to get rid of one. It's getting harder and harder to recycle e-waste.

    • The old printer needs to be working though…

      • Would they really spend a lot of time testing it? I suspect that as long as it's in one piece, and whirrs, they'll probably take it.

      • If that is the case they wont be recycling the printer.

if it needs to be working then it is going to be sold to someome

  • That is truly a waste. Then again its better disposal than hard rubbish.

    • wonder what HP does with the junk it receives… hard rubbish ?

      • I have suspicion they make it into laptop motherboards! :p

  • When you place the order, you can only select to trade in "HP laser printer" or "other brand laser printer".

    • Where does it say they only accept laser prints for trade in? I can't find it on the website. All I found is "The cash back value is subject to the result of a technical inspection of the returned products. Products must be in good working condition and cosmetically sound. "

      • Yes, it doesn't say the old printer has to be laser. I suppose you could ask them to take an old inkjet or dot matrix printer, but then they might invoke the "technical inspection" clause and deny you the full value of the rebate, who knows?

    Pfah.

I threw out about a dozen k550dtn's because the engineering was wrong (as claimed by HP support staff - they stuffed the black ink delivery design, it clogs if not used regularly). Then I threw out 2 p3005n's. So the funny thing is, I couldn't get a rebate on a new HP printer because all my HP printers thus far are dead.

Moral of the story is do your research, if you buy a lemon don't expect HP to admit wrong.

  • god damn. the printers over 1 grand.

  • Why has no-one else negged this scam ?
If your old printer is still working, either its useful or you don't use it because cartridges are too expensive…due to the greedy pricing policies of companies like HP.

Its got ZERO to do with "responsible recycling", its HP trying to get competitors working products into landfill, so they can sell more of their own overpriced cartridges.

It is not land filled. HP sell it.
Even if they dont sell it then they will not just put it into landfill, they will recycle it as e waste

What does Market Velocity do with the equipment they receive?
All equipment received by Market Velocity will be reconditioned and sold into the secondary, or used, marketplace, except for traded data-storage devices, which are salvaged for parts and reclaimed metals, components, and recyclables in accordance with environmental regulations.
