Why are there so many xbone deals going on. Is microsoft banking on the scorpio being so good no one bothers with the xbone?

    • -4

Switch competition. Xbox is now in 3rd place so they need to pump sales

      • +2

How are they 3rd place? Last I checked the Switch just released a few weeks back. Still needs a few years to reach 20+ million sales.

But yes, competition is obvious, and competition is good for us.

Now I hope come Christmas the market is flooded with Switches since Nintendo are upping manufacture from 8 mil to 16 mil and we get a price reduction :)

        • -6

          Reputation wise they're last.
Besides if you want to talk raw numbers, Nintendo make up for their console sales with handheld sales.

        • @Sage: But they're not making a new handheld now, the Switch is it.

Anyway, the Xbone sales are because Microsoft can afford it; they are building up for something either really smart or really dumb. With games pushing cross play between PC and Xbone, and the Microsoft store on PC packing nearly every Xbone game, Microsoft is building up for this 'Universal Windows Platform' they've been pushing for a few years. They are just trying to get a larger marketshare until the bomb drops at E3 this year, or find out just what they intend to do with the monstrous Scorpio.

Microsoft doesn't care how you play games as long as you do it on a Microsoft platform.

          @FrankMcFuzz:

Do some more research on Scorpio. Recent tech papers make it out to be similar specs to the PS4 Pro, not the beast everyone was expecting.

    • +4

I think they're trying to even up the score with Sony, and also not lose market share to the new Nintendo Switch.

    • Came here to ask the same question. The deals are so good, I don't know if I should get one. I'm mostly a PC gamer… but these deals are really tempting.

  • -8

I just tried, but it was $399, not $299?

    • +24

      OK.

Not active until Thursday, as per the deal.

    • -4

perhaps you should try on Thursday 21/03/17

      Just keep trying.

      • He just needs to channel the 'little engine that could' and in about 50 hours get the success he worked so hard for.

does teh foriza horizon game run at 4k

    • I don't believe so. I think scorpion is supposed to run games at 4k

    • No. 4k is only available on supported videos.

      • kek. so much for being a 4k console

        • -1

kek. so much for being a 4k console

Why would you think the console was 4K for games? Why do you think Microsoft are spending billions on a new console for 4K gaming?

        • @Maverick-au:
i thought it was to compete with 4k mode on ps4

        • @gorge:

i thought it was to compete with 4k mode on ps4

What 4K gaming on the PS4?

You mean the PS4 Pro which will be matched by the soon to be released Xbox Scorpio.

        • @gorge:
Xbox One S and Xbox One Scorpio are different things, confusing for sure. Scorpio is the 4K Xbox which isn't released.
Xbox One S is just a slim version with a 4K blu-ray player. Its gaming hardware is unchanged and runs games the same as the original Xbox.
PS4 and PS4 Pro are also different, only the latter doing 4K.

        • @enceladus94:
also im guessing the scorpio is just the code-name for microsoft's next-gen console, which may very well not even run xbox one games. these guys here seem to think it's going to be microsoft's equivalent of the ps4 pro.

        • +1

@gorge: Except you can literally go to the Xbox website and read:

The most powerful console ever, featuring 6 Teraflops of graphical processing power, true 4K gaming and compatibility with Xbox One games and accessories.

So how is it not the equivalent?

        • @AngryAlfred:
because that's like saying the first ps3s which had backwards compatibility with ps2 games were a HD ps2

        • @Maverick-au: The initial marketing was pretty damn deceptive for the non-tech savvy.

        • @KLoNe:

The initial marketing was pretty damn deceptive for the non-tech savvy.

I don't know how, it's a refresh of the Xbox One with a smaller foot print, HDR and 4K Bluray player.

      Because …….

Yeah, it seems weird the that Forza Horizon 3 bundle forces another racing game upon the purchasers.

Jeez there are some 'special' people commenting on gaming deals. I really wish they would limit these peoples access to computers and give them crayons instead.

Puntum, Sage, Jimbler, soegong, tonyyang and gorge so far.

BTW I own a PS4 and a Wii U, no XBox, but this deal looks good

    • Without the stupid comments I wouldn't be chuckling at the witty rebuttals.

Forza bundle with Dark Souls would've been an insta buy

  • Hmm, bought the Forza bundle last week, with no free extra game.

Might get in touch and see if they'll send me one…

    • I've just done that and they will offer you the game to be shipped then process a refund.

      • Excellent news, thanks!

  • Thanks

  • I got the Microsoft Store Xbone S deal last time but unfortunately had to return it as the unit was faulty. Still waiting on my refund…

  • I'm sticking with 360 for a while longer.

    • Given the games need to be installed I don't understand why the internal drives on these are being limited to 500GB to 1TB with 1TB being a premium. Yes I understand USB 3 external drives may be faster but to me that's a design stuff up, not a feature. The 360 had internal drives right, being user replaceable.

    • I don't want to pay 2x-4x as much for additional controllers. We are a family of 4 and the additional 3 controllers almost add up to the price of another console!

Perhaps Scorpio will address some of this.

I spent multiple hours waiting for games to install on the weekend. I got Titanfall 2.
      And I finished the campaign.
And then my brother finished the campaign.
And the download to play multiplayer had still not finished.
Not to mention I had to uninstall several games to fit the new ones on the 500GB hard drive because games are 40GB-70GB now, and must be installed on the console in order to play.

      I miss last gen :(

      • first time i've owned a 'new' console in a long time.
Man i miss the old plug and play. I wait like 5 mins before a game even loads.
My internet connection is 333kpbs so games take days to update.

        • Thats why i am still keeping my PS3, so nice and quick loading up games, no need to being forced to do updates.

        • @kaikor:
I've still got my Wii. Nice to boot up Mario kart.

        • @dasher86: MKWii: The worst Mario Kart.

      • Ya makes it feels like the game disc is in fact a zipped installation disc.

        • Sometimes, some things you need in the game is just straight up not on the disc. I remember when I got Doom that there was horrendous screen tear issues whenever I moved fast. And it was Doom so I was ALWAYS moving fast!! And I needed to wait for 8GB to download before it could fix that issue ;_;

  • Can I download the game included as a bundle straight to the external hard drive as then I can download it on my workplace. My home internet is super slow and the console will take days to download FIFA 17.

    • The external hard drive will need to be formatted in a "special" way which doesn't allow it to be read on a PC.

Probably best for you to bring in your xbox to work and plug it in there to download.

      • That's what I thought. Even if I do download on external drive, Xbox formats the drive wiping my download prior to it started to reading the game. Can't bring Xbox to work so I guess Slow internet at home is my only option.

    • Depending on how secure your position is or your level in the workplace, I would probably run it by management before you attempt to download at work as the files are usually very large. You wouldn't want them to track back the cause of internet speed issues or excess data fees as a result of your downloading.

The real issue is a security one, most workplaces will preclude users plugging in any foreign equipment and he could be dismissed on the spot especially if he causes any issues.

Better off to get better internet at home or just let it download even if it takes a few days.

  • Can anyone give approximations on hard drive discs taken by reach of the games.. for example how many games roughly can you fit in a 500 gb? 10? 20? 30?

Mainly interested in the AAA blockbuster games like cod bf1 mine craft fallout 4 dark souls 3 star wars battleground and maybe forza.

    • I dont have one, but seems you get about 360GB available for game installs on a a 500GB drive. Sizes vary, triple A seem up around 30-60GB install. https://www.finder.com/xbox-one-install-sizes

Sort that list by install size.

Forza Horizon is around 46GB and BF1 around 43GB from what Ive just read elsewhere.

    Sort of off topic.

Tonight I saw, Aldi North Strathfield NSW has 1TB XBox One for $249, and Minecraft and Forza 5 for $15 each.

Sorry not sure how many Xbox Ones they had (just saw one in the cabinet, they may have more out in the back), there was at least 5 copies of each of the games.

    Maybe of interest to someone.

  • Just confirming that I got on chat with MS, after purchasing the Xbox One S Forza bundle a few weeks back, and they hooked me up with the additional game and Lambo model. Well worth the 10 mins…

  • This deal is active again

  • Shows as $399 for me
