    wow, $67 bargain

  • +1

    its $679 OP

  • +2

$679 not $67. I would buy straight away if it was $67

  • +2

Sorry, used max characters for heading, fixed

  • +3

Would go Ryzen for <100 more

    • +4

also the R5 just leaked to come out in April

      • Good point, not the best time to buy midrange

      • pardon my ignorance, but what is R5?

        • AMD ryzen R5 4/6 core range. they just released the R7 range 8 core. the R5 range of chips are supposed to compete against the i5, especially 7600k in this deal. leaked

    • +8

Would be better sticking with the intel if using for gaming. .

      • Not at all, mostly just Windows bugs slowing down AMD and even then 1700x would beat this

AMD have said there is nothing wrong with the scheduler. What else is there?

        • @TheContact:

"Microsoft even officially acknowledged this issue and confirmed a fix in the works — despite AMD saying that there is no Windows 10 thread scheduler issue affecting Ryzen’s performance"

          And benchmarks prove it too

        • +5

@marchi: That tweet everyone references confirming there are issues is vague at best. It seems more like a blanket tech support type answer.

Yes, there are latency issues with inter CCX communication. Whether that's easily solvable is another issue. It would be fantastic if synthetic benchmarks matched up with gaming performance, but I wouldn't buy anything hoping things get "fixed". Waiting is fair enough, buy buying on promises based on rumours that AMD themselves have denied is a bit unreasonable.

This is just gaming mind you, if you actually use the cores rendering or whatever, then yeah, there's really no better choice for the money.

        • +2

I think everyone has firmly established that Kaby lake has the clear advantage in gaming.

        • +1

Follow the benchmarks, they don't lie. Ryzen is a great move forward, especially for workstations and servers, but for gaming and single-thread applications it's not the better buy.

        • @yanman: I'd say the wisest move is to wait for the quad core Ryzen line-up. Quad cores always perform better in games than their hex/oct counter parts. Even if Ryzen doesn't come out ahead (which they probably won't) the pricing should be competitive, and intel might cut prices further.

    • Hype train chooo chooo

  • How has this anything to do with gaming if there's not even a video card?

    • +1

Or a case or ssd or mechanical keyboard or gaming mouse or extra large mouse mat or….

    • +3

It's just what the package was called.
Supposedly a good combo for gaming upgrade to kaby lake,
byo graphics card, hdds and case.

If I got it, I'd have to purchase a cpu cooler though. :/

    • +2

Doesn't say high end. There is the iGPU :p

    • It's a good foundation for a gaming computer.

  • +3

This would be a better bundle for most, it's also cheaper too
    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/37507/pccg-xeon-pro-gami…

This bundle is for a completely different set of audience, as the xeon lineup is aimed towards workshops and workbenches for creating media. Just stay with this one.

      • +2

It may be aimed towards other uses but that doesn't mean it's slower than an i7, it should perform identically to an equivalently clocked i7. The E3 1230 is usually known as a budget i7 with a disabled iGPU.

      • The xenon was used as it punched as hard for less cash 2 Christmas ago when I bought my i5.

    • yep, way better deal

    • Now we talking…

Have i got this right, $679 and no cooler.

    • Correct K processors you will need to buy a cooler or hope your old one works.

I personally bought a similar deal with a xeon, its okay, but I would buy this over that for the extra $50.

Benefits of this, you get an overclockable processor, integrated graphics if your graphics card ever borks and its the latest generation of intel meaning something about 4k netflixing (I dont netflix and chill much). Also resale value is slightly better because people "know" 6600k,6700k and 7600k,7700k cpus are amongst the best where as xeons are less popular.

Benefits of xeon is the slightly cheaper price, comes with a stock cpu fan (for cooling which is needed), and more threads for a good workload.

(please note I didn't down vote you)

      • I maybe wrong, but i believe that all GPUs these days do the decoding, so the lack of Intel GPU on the CPU should not be a deal breaker if you plan on using a dedicated GPU.
Also there is a trend of if it dont OC, its not worth it coming from?

Also regarding your similar deal with the xeon, any real down sides to having it? e.g. long boot times, no pc sleep or power throttling

        • +1

Yeah the integrated intel gpu is only good as a backup if your REAL graphics card gets fried (when you send it back to the shop they take up to 30 days to get you a replacement)

Some people just get the K cpu chips because of the higher base clock ie 6700k with base clock of 4.0ghz and dont get an overclocking motherboard.

The xeon is actually a fine chip probably equivalent to a 6700 non k variety with no difference whatsoever noticed in daily usage.

its ACTUAL base clock is 3.4ghz and with all cores boosted I think max is 3.6Ghz across all cores, only when doing a single core can you get 3.8ghz.

the 7600k has a base of 3.8ghz so boosted would assume 4.0ghz across all cores with a single core doing 4.2ghz

    Gaming 7600k
    Workstation E3

Depends what you're buying it for.

  • I'd wait for Ryzen: http://imgur.com/a/FGkBF

  • Should specify low-end gaming in the title.

    • It would be low end if you didn't get a graphics card but there's plenty of other parts missing from the bundle to make a functioning PC.

  • A gaming bundle without a discreet graphics card. Good job PCCG.
