Does no one else find QC35's (well any QC range) too aggressive?
I bought some AudioTechnica phones with ANC instead because they killed all the bottom end noise and rumble, and probably 50% of the 'upper' sounds.
By not trying to kill all the upper sounds, I didnt get the "pressure in my head" feeling.
Anyone else at all or am I alone in my 'Bose pressure problems'?

    • I have heard a few rare cases of this pressure feeling but have never felt it myself. Doesn't sound fun.

I have noticed that the QC35 noise cancellation is not as good as the QC25.

      • +2

Yeah, all the QC range make it feel like you're at altitude, to me.
I'm 99% sure its because it tried to 'dampen' all the outside audio; so it's actually playing quite a bit of sound to cancel that.

It's why I like the AudioTechnica more; it kills 100% of the rumble (airplane engines, footfalls, car tires, etc), probably 50% of the spoken voice range, and probably 25% of the 'higher pitch' noises.

It makes for a totally relaxed listening experience on a plane, where you can still somewhat hear voices if you need to talk to someone; yet they're muffled enough you'd never be bothered by even loud discussions.

Not sure why I'm explaining all this; maybe it'll help someone who wants a pair of QC's but can't afford them, or also feels pressure.

Look into the Audio Technica ANC range.

        • +1

Thanks for your review of the Audio Technica, which one specifically do you have?

        • +1

          @montorola:
          Specifically, these guys.
          https://www.storedj.com.au/audio-technica-anc29-noise-cancel…
My budget was low as I was buying 3, as gifts for my parents as well as myself.

They recently returned from a flight to India, and had the exact same reviews as I did. Perfection.
No pressure, could make out people talking IF you focus on them, otherwise, all the background noise is removed.

One thing though, they are definately a cheap travel pair.
They ARE plastic, but seem strong enough, and they ARE peaky above 75% volume, but that peaky is actually good for travel, because it brings voices to the front, if you're watching movies and such.

IMO they were built for a purpose. And they fit it well.

          EDIT:
I WROTE A BETTER REVIEW OF THEM HERE:

          (scroll down)

      • I thought it was me. Finding the QC35 a step back in terms of ANC and sound over my old QC25. I regret the upgrade.

    • +1

I second that, I've been wondering whether it's part of our brain playing tricks, when I put the QC25 over my head, apart from the 0 noise, I also have the feeling of covering my ears with both hands with force, similar to the 'pressure' feeling you describe. Our brain might try to associate the feeling when there is a very low decibel to covering our ears with something.

    • +1

I noticed the sensation of pressure more for the first few dozen hours that I listened to mine.

Either my ears have now adjusted, or something has changed with them.

I didn't find it a problem though, just a "strange sensation" at first.

  • +1

so you need to enter CYBER at checkout? And what does this give you 20%? As currently that link shows headphones are $447

    • That's correct, 20% off with CYBER code.

  • +1

Wow, 10 pairs of qc35's in the first 10 minutes of this promotion.

There is no excuse not to buy at this price…….. The QC35s are the 4th pair of QC headphones I've owned, and they are worth every cent. I'd even pay $500 if I had to.

    • +4

4th pair because the prev broke or you're just a collector?

      • +1

        Valid question.

My QC25s busted in one can pretty much as soon as the warranty period expired. Bose were good about it and replaced as a sign of good faith, so no complaints there. But google "QC25 one ear not working" and you'll find HEAPS of literature on it. To be fair it might just have been a bad manufacturing batch, but worth considering.

When they work though, they are fantastic.

        • +3

thanks, as I'm deaf in one ear I'm going to start regularly hunting for these on ebay, didn't know it was a common problem!

        • +1

@freefall101: LOL, I'd give you my set, except it was a condition of the free replacement that I returned the busted pair. FYI it was the right ear that blew in mine, but apparently it can be either. You should be able to pick up a bargain! Might even be worth a sneaky email to Bose Support to see if they just have a warehouse full of returned stock you can purchase.

        • @HereBobButtons:

I know, Bose are usually good on repairs/replacements, meaning I don't find them that often! Thanks for the tip though, fired an email off then

      • 4th pair because the prev broke or you're just a collector?

Good question…..iv'e on-sold the QC15 and QC25's as I've upgraded. I've kept the QC20i's, but now exclusively use the QC35's.

        • Cool. I have the 20i and 25 and a bunch of other ANC cans. But I now only use the 20i. I find all ANC cans produce a rumble when you press against them like when resting your head going to sleep. No such problem with the ear buds. Does the ANC work without Bluetooth enabled on the 35s?

        • @wolfshooter:

I think that rumbling youre refereeing to is the ANC mic coming into contact with a pillow etc? It's a shame that couldn't put the mic on the top of the cans, to limit this. The QC20s are certainly better for sleeping in.

Yes, ANC works when cabled. When the cable is plugged in, the Bluetooth is disabled. Also works passively with cable.

  • +3

i wish i caught public transport because id have a reason to own QC35's

  • +4

Don't forget the Sony MDR 1000x at Video Pro as well http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sony-MDR1000X-Noise-Cancelling-Bl… $474.40

    • +2

Better sounding than the Bose, as most review suggest, however, you can only be connected to one Bluetooth device at a time. The QC35's you can connect to two.

      • Agree. Bluetooth is a small problem. 1000X more expensive than QC35 :( but you get what you pay for.

      • I tried the ANC on the Sony's and it's amazing. In a noisy JB in a noisy shopping centre it was silence. The adaptive ANC is also handy if you wear glasses. Comfort is something else though. I found the QC35s much comfier with larger and deeper cups.

Bose do distort in the low end and higher volumes. where as the Sony's sound great all the time.

Just wish I could have the comfort of the Bose and the performance of the Sony's.

        • But most of the extra noise cancelling is bcos their more isolating to start with, and they hug your ears harder.

Personally I couldn't tell the difference with ANC, and the audio demos on the Sony stand didn't sound as good to me as the audio demo on the Bose.

I would have gone with the 1000x just bcos of the reviews, but I couldn't find a deal on it last December, so ended up with the Bose, which sit idle since I got my driving license back.

Also I found it really neat to be able to answer the phone while I was playing on the PSVita.

      • +1

Pretty much all Sony BT headphones have NFC though, which makes it really easy switching between multiple devices (unless you're an Apple person, of course).

The Sony also has great extra functionality compared to the Bose.

  • +1

Can still add QC35 (Black) to cart and buy, descriptions says > 56% sold. So not sure if sold out?

    • +1

Thanks for the heads up, looks like they've added more stock in.

  • +1

Are these really worth all the hype I hear about?

I've still got my first gen Monster Inspirations but keen to upgrade to something with Bluetooth functionality.

    • +1

If you're constantly in loud environments, these are amazing. Have taken these on the plane and they work a charm. RRP is expensive, but at this price well worth the price. You're really in your own world :)

      • Cheers mate,

I'm a P1 QFF so spend a fair amount of time in the air lol.

Think I'll go ahead and treat myself to a pair :)

        • You know you cant use the wireless function on an aircraft

        • @gazza88: You can :) On your phone you can use bluetooth even on airplane mode

        • +1

@forgivensinner: Just because you can turn it on after airplane mode switches it off doesnt mean its legal. A lot of airlines state that all bluetooth devices much be switched off during their safety brief

        • @gazza88: Pretty sure only during take off/landing they ask you to stop using, for cruising period there are tons of QC visible to flight attendants but never saw anyone got a tap on the shoulder and ask is your bluetooth on (myself included).

        • +1

@Wolfie: was on a few flights with the qc35 on. Different airlines. No tap on the shoulder either.

        • @Wolfie: https://www.virginaustralia.com/au/en/experience/on-board-th…
Wifi is allowed in some cases but no bluetooth even after take off and landing. Whether the flight attendant does anything or not is another story

        • @gazza88:

I can't speak for other airlines but Qantas do in fact allow the use of bluetooth devices once the 'seatbelt sign' is deactivated.

The old terminology on their site explicitly stated it, whereas their new statement is more open.

          • Portable electronic equipment such as laptop computers (including WiFi and Bluetooth enabled devices), PDAs (without mobile phones), personal music (for example, iPods) iPads, Ebooks and electronic game devices may be used when the aircraft seat belt sign is extinguished after take-off and can now be used until we prepare the cabin for landing.
        • @ameno: Have you got a link for the above?

        • @gazza88:

Air New Zealand appears to allow it.

These devices can be used at any time on all our aircraft, apart from headsets during safety announcements:
Noise cancelling headsets issued by Air New Zealand
          Other Bluetooth noise cancelling headsets

        • -1

These are overrated and still overpriced even at this price.

I picked up the direct competitor to the QC35's from Sony yesterday - H.ear On NC Wireless (MDR-100ABN) for $220 yesterday and they retail for $500. The listing said refurbished but who cares if it comes with the same local warranty. They sound better than the Bose too. Only teal and red were available at the time though, I grabbed the last teal pair.

If you have more to spend, then I'd suggest you step up to these for unparalleled ANC, great sound and cool functionality.

        • -1

@ameno: Downvoted for simply saying that the QC35 are not the bee's knees and suggesting alternatives?

        • +1

          @elektron: they're not though

        • +1

@SimpleRoger: And now my question about being downvoted got downvoted. Tells you something about the Bose fanbois…

    • +1

While the inspiration has great sound quality which is probably on par with the qc35s if not better, the noise cancellation is rubbish.

I don't wear mine anymore because they are essentially painful clamps for my ears. Comfortable headphones go a long way.

  • +3

Pulled the trigger. Ozbargain is bad for the wallet…

  • +3

You may want to consider the relative advantage of having user removable battery on the QC25, especially if you plan to use these headphones for years to come without worry about battery losing charge capacity over time. This may not be an issue for most folk here but for me it was one of the major reasons to go with QC25 over QC35. Thanks op.

    • Someone previously did the maths here and worked it out to 3 years of heavy usage to deplete the battery

      • Yes I've stumbled upon that however the battery decreases in charge capacity over time and some do want to use it for many years to come. Either way for most people the removable battery won't be part of their purchasing decision, it was for me.

        • +5

          From redit user P_Devil

''I'm not sure why people worry about this when notebooks, smartphones, and tablets have had non-replaceable batteries for 6+ years now. Just to give you an idea, the battery in the the QC35 headphones is designed to last for 1000 charge cycles. That's fully draining and charging the battery. Just for the sake of this example, we will cut that in half to 500 cycles. That's 500 cycles before it begins to not hold the same amount of power that it used to.
Just for kicks and giggles, let's say that you listen to music for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week using the headphones in wireless mode. They'll last for 20 hours before needing to the plugged in. That's two charge cycles per week assuming you're listening to them for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. That equates to the battery lasting for 250 weeks which is 62.5 months or 5.2 years. That's a long time and you'll likely be looking at getting a new pair of headphones by that time anyways. But those numbers are immaculate as the battery lasts for 1000 charges so you'll get 10.4 years of use. That's with listening to 40 hours of audio a week. That's a whole lot of music and a very long time.
So there's really no need to worry about having a built-in battery. If anything they're better as you aren't putting AA or AAA batteries in the landfill and built-in batteries are often higher in capacity, lighter, and let manufacturers better design their equipment as they don't have to design them around standard batteries that may or may not fit (they can use abnormally shaped batteries).''

  • +1

Thanks hamza23, been waiting for a QC35 deal for a long time, and heading overseas next month.
    You're a lifesaver.

    • +1

No probs, welcome to OzBargain also :)

    • +1

Don't forget getting the GST back at the airport =)

      • +1

Don't forget to arrive AT the TRS area at least 2 hours before your flight to avoid disappointment!

  • +3

The Black QC35 listing specifies 2016 model while the silvers do not. Is there a difference?

    • +3

      No. Both identical.

  • Bose 300 Subwoofer is a record low I believe at $767.00, been waiting for it to compliment the 300 Soundbar.

  • anybody use this on a PC and use it for a combination of music and telephony?

I want to use this at work for listening to music. However I also field a lot of calls (skype, voip, teamviewer) and I'd like to use it for that also.

I currently have a pair of Philips SHB8850NC but I basically have this problem with it.

Would the QC35 have the same issue? How does it shop in devices when synced to a computer?

Educated opinions, preferably from people who have used it in anger in this manner would be appreciated. I was previously told that my SHB8850NC would be 'fine' for the purposes I discussed and it's caused me no end of troubles and frustrations. Especially to get told by those (profanity) that these headphones are not supported on laptops and desktops.

    • i'd say so. It has never been close to $299, ever, and you are seeing a copy paste listing from someone with 0 feedback.

    • No Returns Accepted

    • +3

100% - the picture shows Top Rated Ebay seller and he has ZERO feedback - LOL!!

    • scam

whenever i see such an an i click on "report listing" as likely fraudulent. 0-feedback and item picture stolen from reputable seller, not worth the hassle

  • +2

130 pairs of Black QC35's in 2 hours. Yikes.

  • +1

    Thanks and damn you Hamza!

OzBargain, the site where you come to save money (and end up spending more)

Pulled the trigger, flying to Thailand for a mates wedding over Easter… Anything special I need to do to get the tax back? GST Invoice will come with the headphones? No need to make a special request to videoprodfo?

Thanks, never done a TRS before!!

    • +1

      Download the TRS app :-)

    • never done TRS before

Budget at least an hour for TRS in Sydney, go there first after clearing security. Sometimes you can be in and out in 5 minutes, other times I've waited an hour in line, before just giving up and having to sprint to the gate.

Fortunately I only missed out on $35 that day…..many others who also had to abandon the line lost a lot more.

No need to make a special request to videoprodfo?

No. Take just headphones and tax invoice. Check to see the invoice has an ABN. Don't take the cardboard box!

      • Cool, thanks buddy!

This would also be $35 so won't break the bank or anything, just a nice bonus on this deal :)

        • +1

Absolutely! Every time you put those on knowing you've only paid ~$330, you'll be even happier!

        • @ash2000:

Quick question buddy, doing the TRS app thing now.

Do I include the total amount I paid on the invoice (Bose + Shipping), or do I only include the Bose price only? Both items do have GST applied so i'm not sure.

          Thanks!

        • +1

          @lozza6:

Usually it's just the product, as shipping is regarded as a service, and services aren't included.

Include just the product, and double check once you reach the counter. They can make adjustments if needed.

If you think the noise cancellation is good on land, wait til you switch those bad boys on in the plane. Night/Day!

        • @ash2000:

          Thanks, will do!

Yeah looking forward to it! Already love these on the train and at work!

Pleased I got the 1.0.6 firmware too so very conscious not to upgrade given all the noise I've heard about the ANC being nerfed.

  • +1

what are the chances that QC35 owners in this country are also ozbargainers? i'd say high

    • how come the the same seller other listing come with free post or pick up in WWS but we need pay $9.9for ?
