Xiaomi Mijia Smart LED Desk Lamp (White) $39.99USD $53.87AUD + Delivery @ GearBest

MJTPD

I'm a big fan of Xiaomi products and this Smart desk lamp looks very nice. It's a cheaper price compared to one previously listed https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/291558 The comments on the previous thread is also very positive in favour of this product.

The lamp is able to set different colour temperatures, WIFI enabled and runs off 240v. More info here http://xiaomi-mi.com/mi-lighting/xiaomi-mi-smart-led-lamp-wh…

      • +17

Why does your site say there's only 7 in stock and constantly indicating the offer is only available for another 11.5 hours? Is this an honest glitch or a deliberate attempt to create a false sense of urgency for visitors to buy?

          Hi Vietsodier,

Could you pls show me the screenshot of it?

Can we stop making everything "smart"? It's like none of these people watched terminator

Is the OzBargain community okay with GearBest now? Thought they were manifestly unreliable and dodgy. I remember I ordered something from the a while back and it never arrived, same went for many other members.

Brother-in-law also ordered a Xiaomi Note 3 Pro and Redmi 2 Pro from them and it came riddled with bloatware.

    What's the general consensus?

    • +2

I've ordered lots of small things (e.g. xiaomi ants cam) & they've arrived & worked fine.took about 6wks to arrive

    • +2

Generally my experience is that anyone that offers PayPal is reliable. For example someone I'd never buy from is Android Enjoyed. They have super cheap prices but their products always seem to be refurbished or used.

PayPal doesn't deal with crappy sellers as it results in too many claims.

    • +2

I got one a while back. It was my 1st purchase, and I think it took less than a fortnight from order to delivery.
I liked it so much that I got another one on order from Gearbest.

    • Hi rorymeister,

Sorry to hear that, could you pls pm me your order and let me check for you?

      Thanks,

      Sunny

      • This was a very long time ago. 2014, I believe.

        Some bluetooth shower thinngy.

    • I ordered something that didn't arrive after a couple of months (expedited delivery). I then realised I didn't want it anyway. I asked them to cancel the order and refund my money and they ended up sending it. It arrived a couple of weeks later. So not a big fan on that experience. At least I got it I guess.

    • I think they're ok, ordered a dash cam (A118C) and it came in about 4 weeks.

However, dash cam has stopped working, or sometimes it works if it's super hot in the car cabin.

    WARNING app is not english

    • +3

App is indeed in English. Yeelight has a standalone app. Also, I got it to work with IFTTT.

      • -1

ok on gearbest page they said its not english although i believe you

        • Hi thelastnoob,

As confirmed, you could set the language into English.

      • Did you manage to get ifttt to work with this particular product or just other yeelight products? I've been trying for a while to get mine to work.

    • +1

That's one caveat with many xiaomi products sometimes the English app is not as well supported as the Chinese one. However as a desk lamp with a round dial to change colour temp it's very stylish. You can use the app if you want to, but it's not required.

    • Oh you cant use the Mi Home app?

      • I've no idea, have yet got mine.

        • Mi Home never worked for me so gave up on using the 'smart' functions.

Works fine just pressing it on and off to me

        • @SevenSmurfs: yeelight has homekit plugin but lamp is not yet supported but as i understand support is coming soon.

      • +1

You can. I have this lamp setup on Mi Home (with other Xiaomi smart home stuff) and it works fine.

    Is something like this better?
    http://www.banggood.com/BlitzWolf-BW-LT1-Eye-Care-Protection…

    • The blitzwolf lamp looks like it has more functionality, however I think the Xiaomi one is more stylish.

    • I've had that one for a year now and it's worked fine - but personally I could do with it being a bit brighter than it is.

      • Do you think the Blitzwolf is still solid and would be okay for an university student and reading?

        • +1

It's fine for reading. It was just replacing a lamp that was being used as the primary light source in a smallish room so I was hoping for it to be a bit brighter.

    • I've got the Blitzwolf and it's a great unit. The Xiaomi one has smart features though

      • What are the smart features on the Xiaomi? Just the app associated with it? I am deciding between the Blitzwolf and the Xiaomi. Leaning towards the Blitzwolf as that USB looks pretty handy for me.

        • +1

Based on my own experience with other Xiaomi smart home devices and the Mi Home app I'm assuming you can configure rules for when it turns on or off at given times. Also assuming it can be linked with their other devices like their button switch or the motion and door sensor could turn on/off lamp automatically.

        • +2

In addition to the Wi-Fi feature on the Xiaomi, the main difference between the two is:

Power consumption: 15W for BlitzWolf. 6W for Xiaomi
Lumens rating: 960lm for BlitzWolf. 300lm for Xiaomi
          USB charging: BlitzWolf only

Actually it's closer to $57 when you add shipping…..

Not so sure if this is a deal..

    • I proceed to checkout after applying the coupon and no shipping is charged.

      • Strange I could not proceed without choosing a shipping method, which charged me $1.42 USD..

  • I have one of this. Rich in features and looks stylish. Only one complaint — it's not bright enough for the whole room. I mean it's good for reading, computer and short distance work. But it's not ideal to light up big space/whole room.

    • +4

That like complaining that a Toyota Carolla won't win a drag race against a F1 racing car.

      • +8

        Carolla

        I lol'ed.

      • +1

I agree. Just a bit extra information for potential buyers

    • +10

Who will expect a desk lamp to light up a whole room … lol ..

      • A renter who has bad wiring that the landlord won't fix

        • …they still shouldn't expect a desk lamp to light up a room.

A $12 uplighter with a decent bulb will do a much, much better job at lighting a room up.

        • +1

          @eug: a "student" renter…

But honestly yes I don't even know why someone would pay 40 bucks for one of these rather than buy 2 lights fit for purpose for half the price of this one, definitely a false economy

  • +1

Bought one. Don't really need it but I guess after being so impressed with the Xiaomi pen, I suppose this will look great sitting on the same desk.

    • +1

I love my xiaomi pen. So does my work colleges, I reckon. I lost my first xiaomi pen at work on very first day!

      • I love my xiaomi pen

        Smart pen?

        • no. there isn't any Bluetooth, wifi or apps for the pen. You can choose livescribe 3 If you wanna buy a smart pen.

  • +5

I bought something from Gearbest from 11/2016 and it never arrives, they offered me 50% of the item value refunded and I accepted but they never refunded. I claimed to paypal and they refused my claim. I will never buy anything with them. Maybe they works for you but from my experience, Gearbest is quite dodgy. They should have been banned from Ozbargain!!!

    • Hi daywalker282,

I am sorry for all the inconvenience, could you pls pm me your order number so I can solve this for you?

      Thanks,

      Sunny

      • Please check your inbox

  • Just bought 2…. lets hope they turn up…. Bought through paypal on creditcard.

    • Did you pay for shipping? Or just $39.99 USD?

      • It included shipping once I put the code in…. I'm not sure what I had done differently, but when I first tried it i saw the 1.42 as well.
        Seemed to work for me..
        sorry for the late reply!

    • Hi maddoglee, you can always contact me for order issue.

      • Hi Rep, is this $39.99 including shipping?

        Please let us know.

        • Hi jhk365,

I have tested it with my account Australia address and it show as the cheapest shipping method is Priority Line 7 - 15 business days $1.42.

  • Just wondering if these are safe? I saw a number of people complaining about the Xiaomi power boards not meeting australian standards and being dangerous/voiding house insurance…. would these be the similar as they're also an always plugged in device?

    • +1

I would assume that the power supply is not a declared article and hasn't been tested against the Australian standards. This would apply to most imported chargers and the like. Happy to be proven wrong.

    • +1

There's a difference between dangerous and illegal.

All these XiaoMi products that plug into the mains would be illegal as they aren't approved. But that doesn't mean they're dangerous. Otherwise hotels all over the country would be catching fire with the huge number of unapproved chargers that tourists plug in.

I'm pretty sure we would hear about it if the millions of XiaoMi products sold in the most populous country in the world was causing house fires.

      • +1

They aren't illegal. Just not tested to Australian Standards.

        • +1

Hmm, it's a bit confusing. They're illegal to import or sell here, but they're not illegal to use here. So the act of buying it from overseas is illegal, but once it's in Australia, it's fine to use. Is that right?

        • +1

@eug: not illegal to buy. Just not covered by insurance if these are determined to be the fault of a house fire.

Illegal means you will be arrested.. Pretty heavy word you're using.

Although the most likely reason these are not Australian standards approved apart from testing for flaws in the design that may cause electrocution risk is… The tips of the two prongs (pos an neg) will probably not be half coated.

Unless you constantly put your fingers on the plug while inserting the jack into a wall socket it shouldn't be a problem.

        • @cwongtech:

not illegal to buy. Just not covered by insurance if these are determined to be the fault of a house fire.

That's good. So the govt views individuals and businesses differently then, which should be the case.

Illegal means you will be arrested.. Pretty heavy word you're using.

To me, it just means it's against the law, i.e. not legal. Downloading pirated movies is illegal, but you won't get arrested for it.

I'd take "crimminal offense" as a heavy word which means you'd be arrested.

Unless you constantly put your fingers on the plug while inserting the jack into a wall socket it shouldn't be a problem.

Yup! One exception would be devices like the Broadlink SP3 wifi power switch. It has to go into our sockets upside down which is fine, but the back of it is flush so it butts up against the power switch in some power sockets. Gotta use a double adaptor in those cases.

        • @eug:

To me, it just means it's against the law, i.e. not legal. Downloading pirated movies is illegal, but you won't get arrested for it.

There's a difference, because its like importing a car not certified for the road. It could be modified then undergo testing to be certified roadworthy. It's not illegal to import a car that wasn't made for the Australian market.
Not approved for the Australian market is what I'll stick with.

The power cable would be my main concern with this one. It's not shown in much detail in the pictures, but appears quite small.

There may be a dc adapter, but if that's a mains power cable I'd be wary of it.

      • +1

If you look at the photos you can see the DC barrel connector going into the lamp.

Or you can just look for an unboxing photo that shows the wall wart. :)
        (photo from this review)

I haven't seen a slim LED light that has the LED driver built into the base. It's much easier and safer to use a wall wart.

        • +1

Thanks, I did try quickly looking for pictures but didn't have much luck.

In that case, I think it's likely to have good electrical safety, other Xiaomi devices seem to follow good design for separating mains input & extra-low voltage output.

    • thanks for all the feedback :)

  • +2

    Silently protection, always under illumination

Obviously lost in translation but what could this even mean?

Built in spyware? Is this why it's smart?

  • Don't forget 2.40% cash back with Cashrewards ;)

    • For anyone else who has a 28 Degrees MC, you can also purchase this in USD, saving just that little bit more.

      • However wouldnt that mean you would give up the protection that Paypal offers?

        • +1

No you just have the 28 degrees in your PayPal as a payment method. PayPal give you the option to have it default to charging the local currency with their conversion (not as good) or to charge in the quoted currency and allow the bank to do the conversion. This setting can be set per card for each card you have on PayPal.

        • @sandman28: Spot on. :)

  • Does it come in black.
    And a AU plug?

    • Sooo want this in black. Doesn't seem to come in anything but white.

    • -1

China's plug is AU's plug, just that earth is on top. If this comes with a brick, it means the brick will be flipped.

    • It comes with a good (but not approved) DC transformer, but a flimsy China to Aus plug adaptor

  • garbage novelty

  • +3

It is actually a great desk lamp. I have had mine for 3 months and use it daily. I like being able to quickly change colours and brightness to suit my use. App works fine but I don't bother with it as the lamp is usually within arms reach.

    • +1

Agreed I use mine daily too.

The changing light is great for when its late at night and I want something softer on the eyes.

      I paid AU$67.34 on Jul 25, 2016. So $10 off at $57 is definitely a bargain

  • A quick google search gave me this:
    http://www.tomtop.com/xiaomi-accessories-48/p-pa3842us.html?…

    at AU$ 42.15

    Anything different anyone can spot?

    • Scratch that. I went to order and at the final step the shipping cost jumped to AU $31.
      Dodgy tactic from the website.

      • Well, it does say US$23.37 shipping on their site

        • Hmm.. Looking at it again. You're right. For some reason on the initial cart and paypal screen no mention of shipping charges.
          My bad though.

  • +1

What power plug does this have?

    • second this question!

    • The questions below the item on GB says that they ship with the plug for your delivery country. ie Oz, if you get it delivered here.

      • I received a flimsy China to Aus plug adaptor, but it comes with a good (but not approved) DC transformer.

  • Why is the total cost for me shipped to Perth WA is AU$59.82?

  • used the code GB17LED and came to 42.77 USD (56.35 AUD) using Macquarie platinum debit card (no intl transaction fee)

  • I have one of these, and also one of the Xiaomi Philips Eyecare lights. One issue I haven't been able to resolve is how to use the scheduling to switch the lamps on/off at designated times. It doesn't seem to use the time that is on the phone, and from what I can tell it uses the time on the Xiaomi Account (logged into China) so is GMT+8. But even when I set the timer for 2-3 hours prior to the AEDT (GMT +11) the light doesn't switch on.

So, if you're thinking of using the schedule function, be aware that you might not be able to use it.

If anyone else has got this working successfully, then please let me know what settings to use?
