    Keep 'em coming. Thanks TA!

  • UltraNav (TrackPoint and TouchPad) with Fingerprint Reader

I think this would be worth the extra $22

    • The trackpoint and touchpad is always there, whether you pick this option or not.

the fingerprint reader is the optional part.

    • you will love fingerprint reader. its definitely worth extra $22 imho.

Does anyone else love saying Tightarse's name?

How does this compare to the T series - T460 in particular ?

    • depends what T460 spec you're looking at but here's a few key differences.

      Cons:
      No HDMI
      No finger print reader
      ~0.3kg Heavier

      Pros:
newer/better processor and on board graphics
      VGA port
      DDR4 ram
      Cheaper (T460 wish 256SSD is $1900)

  • +2

Something you get on the L470 that you don't get on the E470:

    • DisplayPort
    • VGA Port
    • Proper Docking connector

A bit heavier, but better laptop for business users (who don't want to spend more to get a T-series).

    • Ports:

      3 x USB 3.0 (1 x AlwaysOn)
      VGA
      Mini DisplayPort
      Ethernet (RJ45)
      Combo audio/mic
      CS13 docking connector
4-in-1 media card reader (MMC, SD, SDHC, SDXC)
      Smartcard reader (optional)

Got to love a modern laptop with that many legacy ports. Definitely would make for a nice work machine

    • Scotty is L series dearer than E?

      • +2

Better-spec'ed E470 for $919, but then E series is really targeting consumers. With docking station and DisplayPort this L470 is much more useful for those with permanent ThinkPad Pro Dock + 4k monitor on the desk.

    • Seems you can have a 2nd hard disk put in.

This I like. Cannot do that with the E series.

  • On the page where has "choose your drive" where the pictures are it says; "you can go with the latest and fastest PCIe solid-state drive" however, in the configuration, I can't see anywhere were I can add a PCIe SSD. Could I buy one and slot it in? I'm on live chat with a rep at the moment

    • Rep confirmed PCIe isn't available at the moment but will be in the future, couldn't advise how long in the future and suggested I sign up to Lenovo news/deals.
I also asked about if I purchased a PCIe SSD in the future and put it into the slot whether that would work. They said no because the bus is SATA not PCIe.

Looking over the specs is a 48Wh battery really enough for 14 hours? I've seen laptops with 90+Wh batteries that don't rate to last that long?

Can anyone confirm that has the laptop?

    • +2

Nobody would have the laptop yet. It's new.. only released recently. No reviews yet.

    • +1

My E570 has a 48Wh battery and the same CPU and it only lasts about 8 hours if you do very light tasks (web browsing, word documents, etc). It's a bigger screen though so that probably plays a factor.

      Edit: Actually I was wrong. It's a 4 cell 41Wh battery.

    • -1

Yeah, the review posted of the L460 (Pretty much the same from what I can see but last Gen. Intel processor) lists the 68Wh as 12 hours, the 48Wh as 8 hours.

Maybe the 14 hours is not for this laptop but for one with a larger battery?

    • Lenovo is second only to Dell as the most blatant bullshit artists when it comes to claimed battery life.
They claim "up to 18 hrs" on my T460. Real-world usage is more like 4-5 hours. Less if it's doing any serious number crunching or games.

      • Have you considered switching to power saving and the lowest screen brightness? And that too with just web browsing and a word document. You will get pretty close to that amount. Seriously people these days

        • I really don't care. It's kinda like advertising a car with top speed 320km/h but you get in and it struggles to hit 80km/h, "but if you take all the seats out, drive off a cliff and only count the speed while you're falling you'll get pretty close to that amount".

If it fell short by say a few hours that would be one thing. But the difference between 18 and 4 is completely ridiculous, and extremely minimalist use cases (e.g. no wifi, lowest brightness etc) should exceed the advertised life.

  • A bit heavy weight wise but it's nice they've got all the ports, including the old-school VGA.

  • which one is better? this or https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/294797 ?

    • That laptop is almost half the weight, much thinner and sleeker and smaller display

This laptop is heavy but has plenty of ports, bigger display and also has local warranty.

Two very different laptops, can't say that one is better than the other since it suits different needs.

      • im looking for something that i can use for uni… i am more inclined towards the asus since its lighter weight. what do u reckon?

        • +6

          Buy as light as possible

        • The Asus will be better if you have to carry it - unless you specifically need those extra connectors. Most don't. I work in IT and have never used a smart card reader, the only time I have seen them used is for logging onto secure networks. I don't think I've ever used the cardbus slot either. I accidentally opened my optical drive the other day and found a disc I put in there sometime last year.

The laptop is not light, not made of anything "premium" either and specs are not even that good. What is a catch?

  • +2

Good deal, but waiting for T Series… Either 460s or 470…

  • Is this better than E570?

    • not if you want a 15" laptop. Otherwise yes.

  • Not bad but I need a cheap ultrabook not a brick

  • Well, I keep waiting for TA's deal on the Yoga 910. So much sexier and lighter.

  • Should have USB-C

  • +2

Waiting for T470S hopefully. That one has Thunderbolt 3 support too for EGPU

  • Yawn - same deal posted every 3 days.

  • You know what they say, if it's always on special, maybe it's just shit?

  • This looks like a good deal.

Just wondering spec wise is the old deal here is better?
