8 Camera Home Security System with 1TB DVR - $299 @ ALDI

This looks like the same cameras as last years deal but with a bigger HDD. Good value for a budget system with the convenience of remote viewing on your mobile device, but don't expect great video from these low resolution cameras.

ive got a photo of the intruder

he looks like tomb raider 1's left boob

    • ..and I can't see who!

  • Closest manual I could find (product code differs by 1) http://support.winplus.com.au/hc/en-us/article_attachments/2…

  • Shame it isnt a higher rez. :/

  • Agree about low resolution.
Anybody know how many hours of recording would fit on the included 1tb hard drive? And how durable the Weatherproof IP66, Aluminium case and cameras are being installed in outdoor areas?

    • It all depends on the frame rate you record at, if you are using motion detection or continuous and the quality of the cameras (are they compressing the video heavily).

1280 x 720 H264 is the minimum in camera specifications I think is worth getting these days.

The recorder also plays a major role in how well they system works. Many cheap NVR have been found to have serious security holes. If they don't have an update policy, then you might find you need to bin the lot in 14 months, either that or share your video with the world.

Are these cameras even IP based?

Personally I wouldn't recommend buying cheap security cam system. Sooner or later, someone will find a bug (or an actual backdoor like an opened undocumented telnet port) and in the best case, it will be only used in a botnet for DDOS (e.g. Mirai), worst case - random people on the internet can see what you are doing. The manufacturer will never be bothered with fixing the bugs.

  • As a security technician I can tell you this camera system is crap and 5 years behind current technology - possibly manufacturers dumping old electronics. In saying that they are only a fifth the cost of a medium quality system. But don't forget to add on the cost of having someone install it, if you can find someone who wants to. Would be stoked to see 3 pixel boobs with this

  • Anyone know if the hdmi out and vga out can be used at the same time?

  • Anyone know if they drop the price of these after a while?
