    Tempting!

    • +2

yeah, tell me about it… I've been on the fence with my EB pre-order for months, this isn't a huge discount, but it was enough to bite the bullet and go for it!

    • It definitely is tempting. I only played Mario Kart on my Wii and Wii U.

    • Do you know if the new Mario Kart will be released for Wii U?

      • +11

Its not a new Mario kart. Its the same Wii u version with a few more tracks and double items etc. They just called it deluxe for the switch.

        • Don't forget Battle Mode!!!

  • I noticed there's a NETWORK adapter available at EB.. Does this mean if you want it to be connected by LAN I need that also?

    • +3

i'd say so… was the same with the wii and wii u… Nintendo loves their wireless

      • Cheers

      • +1

Seeing as it's a portable device, I'd wager it's expected you use WiFi.

        • The dock has USB so in theory you would leave the Ethernet adaptor attached to it.

        • @Tyronomo: Yeah that makes sense, but just in a general sense.

I don't want to see it reconnecting when you undock it during a multiplayer match etc.

  • +11

    Finally bit the bullet :-(

    • +2

      thats a good thing!!!

    • Woah

    • +1

      Enjoy Zelda :D It's amazing.

      PS - Avoid spoilers.

  • +5

Fff.. I'll just keep telling myself to wait for a game bundle / limited edition

    • +25

Or wait for the system to actually have more than one game worth playing.

$449 for a console with the same hardware as the 2014 Shield tablet (which now sells for $199), is still a big ask imo.

      • +5

Yep. I would be sorely tempted to buy at release, but with Zelda being the only game I really want to play at release I'll be waiting for 1 or 2 more Nintendo (or Switch) exclusive games that I want to play before pulling the trigger.

Having said that, I will be jealous of anyone playing Zelda on the Switch on day 1!

      • -4

It has 3-4 worthwhile games at launch, 2 controllers, plus alot of other creative games coming. Their Nintendo Youtube TV stuff highlights everything.

On a side note, Nobody really cares about the Shield Tablet, the only people that talk about it are angry gamer types, console warriors salty over the Switchs capabilities and games. Real talk.

But yeah, Nobody is forcing you to buy it now, if you dont have the money, just wait, others will pick up those copies now.

Video games are not that important, they are a hobby. Take care of life stuff first.

        • +1

          What 3-4 games at launch?

        • +7

          Real talk

          Ok, early 2000s rapper.

the only people that talk about it are angry gamer types, console warriors salty over the Switchs capabilities and games

I'm a Nintendo fan since the SNES and use my 3DS every day. Am I this 'angry Hamer type'?

if you dont have the money,

Lol. Try being an adult and seeing it's not about 'having the money', it's about saving for bigger goals than video games.

        • @Circly:
1 2 Switch (being underrated for being a mostly multiplayer game with alot of take it where you go potential + First game with Modern HD Rumble motion games), Zelda Breath of The Wild, Bomberman and Snipperclips. Unless all you want is the same AAA game from Ubisoft or Activision or a movie as a game like Uncharted then you wont like these games.

The sequel to Fast Racing Neo (Wipeout style game) Fast Racing RMX is March also. So thats 5.

Some strong independent games are being showcased also, which i assume some of which are sooner then later, depending. https://youtu.be/p-mFODSa2VM

        • -6

@PainToad: People still say real talk. I didn't say you, just that people that were saying it for that reason, spreading that claim that everybody was going to get that instead. Alot of angry gamers with no actual interest in it. Lol. I just thought it was a weird reason they were spreading, because they only heard about it because of the Switch.

I didn't say you didn't have the money available for it. Just that you could wait if it was necessary. I think you read that incorrectly, And yes i agree there are more important things in life.

        • @Circly: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, Just Dance 2017.

          Link https://ebgames.com.au/featured/nintendo-switch

        • +5

          @ltvo3:

          Just Dance 2017

Lol, can't wait to play that on the bus.

        • @ltvo3: ewww

      • Plus dock, plus joycons, still expensive but not that bad.

      • +3

I'm buying day one. Zelda is worth it to me. And no one will develop for the console if no one buys it. Nintendo are the last console manufacturer with the guts to take risks, so I'm taking a risk on them.

      • +1

shield tab had k1, this has x1 die shrink..

      • -3

So the switch is less powerful than the xbox one but costs almost twice as much. When removed from the dock the gpu halves the clock speed so games will have to be designed to run at that half speed.

Sounds beyond awful for anything third party aside from those crappy indies Nintendo are jerking themself off over that are all over Steam anyway. Switch is 100% gonna be another first party only affair =/

Check back in a years time when it gets it's third game and it might be cheaper to buy? Got burnt by buying the WiiU at launch and learnt my lesson well. Nintendo only really care about the 3DS which is an excellent gaming device with lots of third party support.

        • -8

It really is time for Nintendo to go the way of Sega for home consoles, and focus on cheap portal consoles.

My suggestion is 4DS, the 3DS with Smell-O-Vision. Seems right up Nintendo's alley. I've always wondered what Yoshi's poo smells like.

    • +1

1-2 Switch should have been bundled. But Nintendo keep saying they will not lose money with sales of the Switch.

      • Would have been nice but it has alot of replay value with 28 minigames, plus Zelda doesnt have any local multiplayer. You'd think they'd add that but i get its a single player game experience.

Gaming is a hobby of expenses either way.

Will be alot of fun, along with Bomberman, plus you can take it where ever you go…

Hopefully Nintendo keeps the JRPGS to mobile, as most of those are free on mobile tablets and phones now. Nintendo should pack in fire emblem on the console.

Alot of open world, jrpgs and get repetitive and arent worth the price but it is what it is. At least Zelda is doing things in unique, different ways.

        • +7

Not sure why you are continually getting negged lol.

Neg this comment dipshits - DLC and online killed gaming!!!

        • @abc: Its all good, people just get made about gaming i guess, not that big a deal in the end.

  • +4

You can get 8% off Eb games vouchers and buy it using that.

    • +5

      Could you please elaborate? :)

The only thing I can think of is buying Wish gift cards @ 5% off via CashRewards then going to Woolies and buying EB gift cards.

      • -1

Blatchys Blues if you're a member?

      • Some employers / social clubs offer them. My work actually gives 10% off EB (Sorry this doesn't exactly help)

      • +1

It's from Blatchy Blues. I understand it costs significantly more to join now.

  • -3

Random Question - When is the scorpio being released & is it worth waiting for ? I have a 4k Tv

    • +4

very unrelated question you've got there… but basically it is too early to tell… wait for June around E3 to know for sure…

      • I'm also interested in the switch but don't have kids and can't justify both lol

        • Find an exclusive game that you enjoy on each console and their is your justification for owning them. That's what I've always done.

    • FWIW, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is listed for Project Scorpio, releasing August 23. As the Xbone S has 4K I'm pretty sure that PS (interesting abbreviation, Microsoft… ;)) will.

      • Can I play games in 4k on the Xbox S ?

        • +1

Nope, but HDR helps it look prettier. :)

        • @flumpf:

I have just bought a 4k TV with HDR I haven't had a gaming console in yonks. Am I better off buying one of the Xbox S deals or wait for the Scorpio. Not into Playstation as Forza & Halo are two of my favourite games

        • +1

@PAOK11: Only you can make that call. Forza Horizon 3 does look good though - and there are great prices around currently on Xbone S bundles.

        • +1

Technically it doesn't - but it does upscale everything to 4k - my receiver detects a 2160p signal from my XBOX One S no matter what I doing on that - playing games or Netflix or Stan ….. and Netflix on the XBOX one S turns on HDR no matter what res the show I am watching is in ….

        • Not natively but it will upscale it for you.

    • I think either later this year or next. E3 will have a big showcase for it. Its up to you and what you want. Its going to be about higher end graphical gaming, with rumors of possible console exclusives.

The Xbox One S upscales to 4k currently, while the PS4 Pro also, with some native 4k.

If your just about games on Xbox, maybe try the S model, or maybe wait. Its not up for preorder yet so we honestly dont know.

Maybe get the vanilla ones instead. I dunno.

      • -1

        Whats the Vanilla ones ?
        I haven't owned a console since xbox/ps2, so i'm in no rush.

I don't think its worth buying the S other than to save money because once the Scorpio is out they will stop making games for it

        • Xbox One S is the mid gen slim "upgrade" to the vanilla Xbox One system,
It has higher visual upscaling technology (4k upscaling), slightly higher specs with better performing games, and a 4k HD Disc Player, the new high quality disc medium for films/tv…

The Vanilla is basically the original Xbox One, it plays games but doesn't have the "real" 4k scaling from what i understand, instead it functions closer to 1080p (depending on game), and 1080p upscaling (average tvs) but can still work on a 4k tv. It also doesn't have the 4k Ultra HD media disc player, instead plays regular blu ray discs.

Its price (if you can still find it), is below 300, some have higher memory storage. Plus its bigger then the S.

Microsoft intends to support the Xbox One original going forward, and the Xbox One S, it is believed the Xbox Scorpio will be a premium system for spec heads, some also speculate it might be an eventual replacement for the first Xbox Ones, but that is speculation currently. Microsoft wants to make games for the Xbox One and the S model for a while.

        • +2

          @BNN:

          Thanks for the info
Just a thought how will the Scorpio be a replacement for the first Xbox Ones without being a replacement to the Xbox One S ???

        • @PAOK11:

Thats cool. Hard to say currently, Xbox is stating they want it to be "forwards compatible", meaning they continue to support the Xbox One vanilla and the Xbox One S for a long while, along with the Scorpio. They claim they want the systems to be generation free but im not sure how that will pan out in the long run.

Given that the Xbox One S is still new (launched last year i believe), i can see them supporting it for quite some time, at least a 3-4 years probably….

Scorpios power and cost have yet to be nailed down i believe, the E3 reveal will apparently sort things out. There may be exclusives down the line, some that work with Xbox believe it might be the next generation successor.

        • @BNN:

The whole thing reeks for someone like me who has no idea this is a big mess. Back in the day you would have the Ps1 (fat) then the Ps1 (slim) Ps2 (fat) Ps2 (slim) Ps3 (fat) Ps3 (slim) now its like Original Ps4 - Ps4 slim & Ps4 pro & xbox are following suit and doing the same thing. If History is anything to go by once they completely change the name of the console that's when it becomes the successor of the previous generations

        • @PAOK11: Yeah, its become quite complicated since the 360 and PS3. Also there is the PSVR, which is basically an additional PS4 add on console like the Sega 32X and N64DD was. I'd speculate the current sales for Xbox 1 and PS4 include all the mid gen "upgrades".

On top of that the Xbox Ones and PS4s have mandatory installs, meaning physical games have to be installed on the game hard drive, and numerous games have required patches/updates that are basically 5-15GB downloads at times. They are almost high end PCs at this point.

Switch apparently continues physical game usage working off the game card, using physical SD cards, with built in memory and optional memory cards to use for digital and additional saves.

I suspect the next iterations of systems will all go to SD game cards eventually, as you can store alot on them.

        • +2

          @BNN:

Haha yes, the SD game cards are very interesting & why i'm drawn to the Nintendo Switch. I love the artwork and having a physical copy of said game must be the old school gamer in me. The Xbox & PS seem to be going digital in more ways than one. I also hear my colleagues complain that every time they turn on their consoles they are waiting 20 to 30 minutes (maybe longer) to start playing due to add ons and updates

  • So question for the Pros - should I be able to download the games from eStore or should I be worried about buying them and pre-order now ?

    • +10

My recommendation with Nintendo is steer clear of the estore. Physical costs the same, and unlike xb1 you cant share games. Buy physical. Finish and sell.

    • +2

as far as everyone knows the games will be available digitally via the eShop, but keep in mind the crazy low storage space… if you're going all digital… grab yourself an SD card while you're at it

      • +4

Methinks they had a massive excess of 32GB chips from the Wii U :P

        • Agree. 32gb is tiny these days. Can be filled up rather quickly.

Hopefully you'll be able to use an external hard drive. You get way more extra storage going that route, than using a more expensive MicroSD memory cards. Although a MicroSD is more practical for use when undocked.

Coupled with the added expense of needing to spend an extra $59 or $79 on top of the console purchase to get a game to play on it. Since the console doesn't come bundled with any games.

        • @g12345567: I'm not sure on the HDD front - doesn't lend itself well to portability. I reckon we'll be collecting MicroSD cards like with the Vita.

Speaking of that, Switch is basically PlayStation Vita TV done right. If only Sony had thought to make the thing a dock for a portable Vita they'd have been well ahead of the curve.

        • @g12345567:

Using an External HD would be an issue when one uses the console as a portable. The most expensive portable in history :P

        • @g12345567: Some places like Big W are bundling games apparently.

        • +1

          @flumpf:

PS Vita uses those over priced Sony memory cards. Unlike the Switch where they at least allow you to use any brand of memory card. Soyou can at least shop around for a good price.

  • +5

Or just buy the console from big w with 5% off woolies gift cards for 445.55

Or sign up to blatchysblues and get 9% off ebgames cards and get it for $426.79

    • +1

so you can potentially save another $5 with your bigw plan… if they have stock and if you're prepared to go in store and get it and deal with staff etc etc OR you can pay what looks like a minimum of $20 to then be able to buy ebgames cards at a discount… essentially making it $446.78'ish…

yeah i'll stick with chucking a code on my ebay cart and getting an extra $6-7 back from cashrewards AND have it delivered to my door… beats both those options in my opinion

      • +3

Guess you missed out on the free sign up last year for blatchy blues then. Was also a 4.95 deal recently too.

        • haha I guess so… if you're already a member and once again are prepared to deal with going into a store to get one (which are potentially sold out if you want the neon) then sure its a slightly better deal… good to have the info out there for people it applies to though

        • @KRiSX: or 499-5% for console + 1,2 switch for 474.05 ir 519-5% for console + zelda for 493.05. There is no supply issues in our country, eb games sold out of pre order neons, that's it! 20-30 consoles in every target store (just for ore orders), 25% neons. 5 or $6 from CR is not great when you compare the BigW bundles. Which you can get on the day.

I did sign up to blatchys for $4.95, but even at $20 the savings of 9% for console and a game or 5 are well worth it.

Unless you dont plan on getting any games.

    • +1

      TIL: blatchysblues. Thanks!

  • +5

So this works out to only 4.25% discount over the rrp. Not big enough a discount for me to jump on it. Also coming from the gamesmen is another deterrent for me. Got (profanity) over by them with a phone order I placed. Despite giving me a quote including postage (which I ensured was the case multiple times) they billed me an extra $80 for postage. As the transaction took 3 days to appear in my account and the goods were already posted they said there was nothing they would do. I called and talked to the same guy I placed the order with who flat out denied that we'd agreed on the price including postage.

    • I'm sorry to hear that, but thanks, because I needed a reason to feel good about paying an extra 20 bucks at EB tomorrow for this.

    • I've found their phone manner to be a bit lacking, even simply asking to see if they had stock before I went in was like someone scratching on a blackboard.

  • +1

Nah. 20% off on a bundle minimum.

  • +4

hmm do i really want to buy another console …
my ps4 has been gathering dust… lots of dust. lol

    • +4

I think it is time to dust it off and pick up a copy of Horizon Zero Dawn!

      • sure it's any good? i bought the latest ft and haven't spent a single minute on it lol

  • -7

Wait another year and Nintendo will flop this one off their shelves for less than half price.

    • +2

      When has that ever happened?

      • +1

Wii U. Price dropped like a stone. Still, I love mine and I never power up my Xbone or PS4 anymore - still working through Paper Mario!

        • +1

Only extremely recently did the Wii U's price drop. It did not become half price after a year.

        • @mpratty10: Not quite half a year, but nine months after release I bought my Wii U for half price in the Dick Smith fire sale. Nintendo also officially dropped the 3DS price from $350 to $250 only five months after its launch. Not saying the same thing will happen to the Switch, but it's certainly not unprecedented.

        • @professorhulk:
Nice to know, i was going to hang out until there a few more games to play.

        • @professorhulk: Mmm… with respect, DSE fire sale isn't an official price drop and does not disprove my point. The Wii U launched in November 2012, DSE fire sale started February 2016. How is that 9 months after Wii U's launch?

I was talking about Nintendo home consoles initially, but the 3DS example is a fair enough comparison.

        • -2

@mpratty10: 26th of September 2013 was the big Dick Smith sale. Here's the very Ozbargain post that got me out there to snap one up:

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117642

        • +1

@professorhulk: Fair call. Isn't the fire sale that most would recall. More like DSE getting rid of their Wii U's… which is a bargain, but doesn't prove Nintendo dropping their prices is the norm. ;)

      • The last time they released a console.

Here's Nintendo on Amazon halving the price of the Wii very quickly:

        https://camelcamelcamel.com/Nintendo-Wii-Console-Black-Delux…

  • -1

This isn't worth it guys. A $20 difference doesn't make this any better. It's already too inflated. Wait for a 20% discount then at least you get a game with that difference.

    • +1

How is this 3 down votes down? It's a god damned site for people to save money, and you're giving logical advice on a way to save money on something. Damn dude.

Like, I know the votes really mean nothing in the real world, but I've been dealing with some (profanity) fanboys going on about the Crash remaster possibly coming to Xbox all day and am not in the mood for idiots being idiots when someone says something that makes sense.

      • -1

Look video games are not that important, due to the nature of the site, its going to involve people from different groups commenting, it is what it is. These are toys at the end of the day, next to other toys in department stores.

Yes, theres alot of angry fan stuff here, which is why you need to chill when reading it. Because this stuff isn't important. I pointed out issues with Horizon Zero Dawn and people got mad even though i sad it would be okay as a game, just not great. And that seems to be becoming the consensus with some now. Some might not agree or have already made up their mind. Im not mad, you can just expect certain responses regardless.

Internet gamers have very angry attitudes at times. Disconnect, and try to read things without the emotion they can convey, which is probably unintentional.

Figure out what deals are right for you bruh.

Maybe a game you like will be cheaper, discounted, maybe it wont.

Some feel its worth it given x y and z, some feel slighted at the potential of the system and downplay it, and some just feel like waiting which is fine, others will buy. Its hard to find in some regions.

Alot of the people that comment are the angrier side of playstation, xbox groups and some nintendo fans that over scrutinize that want to fit in with internet gamer dude types.

Not that important, just focus on the deals. I'd say for some they use sites like this too see what new games are out.

        • +1

And then this, look at this! You wrote a giant ass piece filled with rational and calm thought, and you got downvoted. God damn.

        • -1

@TheDukeOfNukem: Have you seen the switch reviews. One thing the reviewer says that the fanboys don't agree with is met with harsh criticism.

Even though I wouldnt have the time I see the following as shotcommings

          • The Battery
          • The resolution of the screen
          • The desync issues of the joycons
          • The grips for the joycons (that turn it into a controller) in relation to how close the buttons are
          • The price of the pro controller
          • The kickstand not being very sturdy

Probably the biggest issue is the desync one and I hope the retail ones dont exhibit this problem.

Ive also seen criticism from fanboys because the reviewer has the audacity to liken it to a console such as a ps4 or xbox one even though nintendo markets it as such. To me its a hybrid console and with a lot of decives trying to do too many things as much often have shortcomings in every category. But its the only one in its class and a pretty bold move by nintendo to distance themselves from the crowd. I say wait for gen 2

        • @Hahuh: The battery isn't a fair criticism because there's no other tablet that offers substantially more battery time while playing games that push the console to it's limit.

        • @Diji1: yeah no. The mah is a joke. They could've put a bigger battery in there. A 4300mah battery is paltry. Would've liked to see something closer to a 6Ah. For comparison the shield tablet had 5200mah and that was 3 years ago

  • +1

I had a wii and I still have a wii u but for this price I couldn't buy the switch . The ps4 pro isn't that much more and the xbox is cheaper. I think Nintendo should of had a lower release price on the switch. When I got the wii u I had to wait so long for games to come out. I will probably buy one of these but later on when the price drops. Nothing beats playing mariokart and smash with your mates.
