    • Just wondering, did you get any signal bars at all on the second phone? I found that Telstra has new bands in my area that my phone doesn't support. Fortunately it's not a phone that I intend to use with Aldimobile; discovered this while testing a just expired SIM with the phone.

      • I recommend checking out this site to quickly find any issues with band support. http://willmyphonework.net/

      • Nah nothing at alll on the phone. Just the message "Emergency calls only" The other phone that is working is same make and model and transfer on that worked fine and if I swap the sims problem just changes phone

        • Is it locked by any chance? Or a different country variant of the same model?

        • @machej: Nah both phones purchased outright and have had a variety of sims in them. Just a dodgy SIM card I reckon but it just takes them forever to do anything. Just got email they are going to send replacement SIM card today so with a bit of luck it might be up and running early next week.

        • @SirNed: Can you buy another sim and get them to transfer the credit? (or forgo $5)

EDIT: This is the best idea because this deal expires in 2 days and you won't get it in time.

        • @machej: I already have the deal and phone is already on the plan so thats not a problem

  • I've never had to change over to a new sim before. What will happen to my contacts list and messages, if anything, in keeping the same number?

    • +1

Depends on your phone. If you have a smartphone, nothing happens. All data is kept on the internal storage of the phone. (or SD card in some cases)

  • "Data is charged per 1KB which means the minimum amount of data you'll consume in each data session is 1KB."
Is this a concern? Does this mean with 42 gb included you only get 42 opportunities to use the data before it runs out?

    • Huh? Explain your reasoning.

      Short answer: No.

      • Doh! I million KB in a gb. Sorry I get it now.

  • Sorry for the stupid questions, would love any advice;
    1. Will this work on the oppo f1s in Sydney?
2.if the data runs out (I have no idea how much I use) can you add on more data without that overriding the plan?
    3. If I need to make international calls, can I add pay as you go recharge too without losing the prepaid superpack?
Any advice would be appreciated, I don't know much about these things and don't want to make a costly mistake. Thanks!

  • Just my 2 cents, just signed my girlfriend and I up after seeing the deal here and am having a really bad time with number porting. They've told me there has been a delay for both our numbers coming from Optus. It's been 48 hours and neither of us have working phones. We had to cancel our Optus contract because the reception at home has been terrible. My partner is so cranky right now. I've missed a lot of calls and texts from work. Luckily I haven't paid for 2 yearly plans. Am starting to get worried they won't have this sorted out by today.

    • Did you come from a business plan or post-paid plan? I was in the same situation as you until I entered my existing provider's account number in the sign-up process (even if you aren't, I'd try reactivating again and putting it in anyway).

      • Hello Shiny, the problem was that not only did Optus cancel our contracts, they cancelled our actual mobile numbers which meant we couldn't port over. I feel like it was probably a communication error as I did the contract cancel through live chat but it could be a punishment strategy for leaving early although I always suspect dark intentions lol. After being told outright nonsense by one Optus rep through live chat who told me the "porting authority" was having troubles with all number ports except to telstra, he didn't notice that the actual numbers were without carriers and in limbo. When I got the time to actually call up, a much more knowledgeable rep told me I'd have to go to a store to get our numbers back. I feel bad because I lost my cool at her over the phone as by this point the stress of having had no phone or internet for my partner and myself who work Jobs requiring phones mad me crack. I did apologise and told her I was made at Optus as a corporation and not her. She was very forgiving. Any way, after a walk to an actual Optus shop got it all sorted and got the numbers back and got them ported by 7am Friday morning. My girlfriend said "Never again!" So we're on ALDI until we fall off the mortal coil lol

  • Managed to snap a SIM up an hour ago, the service ported within about 20 mins, and have added the recharge pack.

Looking forward to no phone bills for the next year!! (though will be avoiding YouTube/Spotify on the go)

Great deal - best of luck to those who've been caught in the porting Twilight zone.

  • Reception in my area even with Telstra is choppy (Mornington Peninsula, Vic), so much so that I strongly contemplated trying out Optus to see if their towers were a better fit. However, the effective monthly cost of this deal was too good to pass up, even with other providers' student discounts.

Note: AldiMobile customer services' operators' verbal handle of the English can be poor and consequently they can be difficult to understand.

  • Just managed to get this through. Bought a SIM at 12:30PM… ported over in about an hour… and just now had time to buy the recharge Super Value Pack option. Didn't realise it ended at 5PM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good thing I checked early…. I just assumed it was an all day expiry (even though this deal DOES say 5PM!). Thanks OP (on behalf of my mother who will be using this plan)

  • fml they switched me after the 365 plan, now i'm stuck with PAYG

    • guy their website is crap, download their app and you can select -> recharge -> value pack -> 365 days.

You can even spend the $5 credit you paid to contribute to their yearly price

FYI deal has extended til Monday

    • +1

Curious where you heard it was extended til Monday.

It's past their nominated time and still says "Available for a limited time until 5pm (AEST) 3rd March 2017." on the SuperPack recharge option but the option to select the SuperPack recharge is still there.

I was in the middle of porting online and my port request failed, called up stressing that I couldn't get it activated before 5 and the CS lady told me that the offer had been extended til Monday. My port went through at 6 pm and I recharged with the option over the phone

Thanks eunos, others with porting delays will appreciate that extra information.

        • @GCSteve:

          No sweat!

  • Thanks ozbargin - my partner and I just got this plan, you saved us $100/year and we now have more data. Appreciate it!

    • My partner and I are saving $230 a year. We're coming from Optus $40 for 10gigs a month plans. We didn't actually use as much as we thought we would on 10 Gigs. Less data but half the price for us

Confirmed i just did it for my old man about 20mins ago.

    Download the app
Make sure you got a credit card updated to the account.
    Hit recharge
    Goto value packs.
Select 1 year super pack…. done.

    • Looks like it's over now.

The Super Pack recharge option was showing early Monday morning but is now gone.

Hope those with issues porting from Optus made it in time.

If they didn't at least the Kogan deal is a far cheaper alternative now, even if the network is somewhat inferior.
